A word from Andina
Andina draws inspiration from the native culinary traditions of Peru, as well as from the contemporary cooking by some of Peru’s leading chefs. Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt, collaborates with Andina’s kitchen team to develop a menu that celebrates her family’s Andean roots, interweaving the ideas and techniques of both Criollo and Novo-Andean cuisines. The kitchen sources native and local ingredients to create dishes at once traditionally rooted and personally inspired. Founded in 2003, Andina emerged as one of the region’s leading Peruvian restaurants and continues to generate wide appeal within the food communities in and around Portland, and much further afield.Continued

  • "Not knowing what to expect when going to a restaurant that specializes in Peruvian tapas resulted in a pleasant surprise. The meal was one of the best and unique experiences I have has in a long while. The mixed seafood ceviche was incredible. Worth the trip alone. All the tapas were flavourful and fresh tasting. The restaurant was very busy for a weeknight so I would recommend a reservation. A really exceptional meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends. "

  • "The menu is extensive but all the servers are very well versed on the spices, preparation, etc. However, when we asked our waiter his preference between to similar seafood dishes, he had no opinion or insight. I love the teamwork, but when a different person shows up at your table with bread then with your wine and yet another with your meal, it can be difficult to track down your waiter. Also, it was a special occasion, so my husband ordered the trio of creme brûlée; which our server told us was earl grey, honey, and vanilla. I ordered another dessert because that sounded very boring to me. But when the dessert came to our table via yet another server, the flavors of cb were chocolate cinnamon, espresso, and honey."

  • "jTook my husband and friends to dinner to celebrate his birthday. I am gluten free and was very happy to have a gluten free menue waiting for me at the table when we arrived. Great cocktails--but the wine recommended for us after requesting "something unique" in our taste preference, was disappointing--very pedestrian. We each had scalops which came resting on mashed potatoes steamed bok choy--scallops were large so three were enough. Too much mashed potatoes, though, and not enough vegetables. Because scallops are bland, the potatoes failed to add anything to the dish. Great deserts. Over all, too noisy. It was hard to hear the person sitting across from me."

  • "Trendy reputation of which the restaurant takes full advantage by stuffing people in like sardines. Because of the lack of private tables for two, I wouldn't say it was a great choice for a romantic date. The two of us were virtually sharing a booth with a party of four. Also, being vegetarian, the menu choices were limited, and so the animal eaters around us seemed much happier. We ordered sampler plates that were 3x as expensive as the tapas you might get somewhere else with less of a reputation and not necessarily better. There was a sense of irony at the contrast between the photos on the walls of Peruvian natives sitting on the ground eating out of their hands and the overpriced menu that none of those pictured could possibly afford."

  • "I eat out...a lot...that might be an understatement... But this was one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. It was our last night in Portland, and so I made reservations for my boyfriend and me. I do not have a single complaint about my experience. In fact, it was one of the meals I've ever had, and the service was exceptional! Filet Mignon Tartare: INCREDIBLE! Double Rack of lamb: So flavorful and cooked to perfection Fontina Stuffed Pork over Wild Boar: Delicious Trio of Creme Brulle: Decadent!"

  • "We invited our good friends with expatiations for a unique experience and none I mean none of us were disappointed. The food was very tasty, presantation was very nice and the portions were just right. We enjoyed a very fine red wine and desert was unique and certianly different. The ambiance could be inhanced by native Peruvian music! Overall however we all rated the experience enjoyable and unique. We recommend Andina's to ally who wish to have a unique dining experience.   • "After hearing many recommendations and raves, finally made it to Andina last weekend. It surpassed all my expeditions and beyond. I loved ordering several small plates and trying different savories without becoming overly full. The octopus was superb as well as the fried icecream for dessert. The service was excellent and our server was extremely knowledgeable and offered appreciates suggestions. Will be back ASAP!"

  • "We went to Andina to celebrate a special occasion. This was my second trip to Andina, first review. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and we were essentially seated right away, so great start to the night. For food, we ordered 4 tapas and 3 entrees. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, I normally have a complaint about something and am disappointed in myself that I can't complain about one thing. On top of that, the drinks were great as well! There was one foul-up for the night.... half the entrees and half the tapas/apps came out at once. It made it a little odd dining experience... but, the manager came immediately to apologize and more than made up for it to us to ensure we had a great dining exp"

  • "We were there on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was full. The seating was a bit tight and the noise level made conversation less than intimate. The food was delicious though. I had the pork special which was very good although the cut had a lot of fat. My husband had the Loma Saltano which was very flavorful and two Sacsayhuaman cocktails because the first was so good. I had the Anselmo Mendes ‘Pássaros’ Vinho Verde suggested by our waiter and it played very well with my dinner. For dessert we had Plato de Crema Quemad. I would recommend everything and definitely would go again."

  • "We were seated for our reservation on time by very friendly and courteous staff. This is a very busy place at peak hours but we were lucky and got a window seat with a great view of the Pearl. The servers were knowledgeable, friendly and a great help with the menu. Timely service can be a bit of a chore but they seem to manage well given the sizeable weekend crowds. The food was great... we chose entrees over tapas and were not disappointed. If there was any con it would be that some tables appear to be crowded somewhat tightly into the center of the dining room. This is definitely an energetic evening hotspot."

  • "This was our 4th visit to Andina and first with children in tow. Our server was very knowledgable and helped us put together a wonderful meal. The pacing was relaxed and food top-notch. We particularly appreciated the gf menu and wide assortment of choices. We felt very safe eating there and enjoyed all our dishes, particularly the quinoa salad, the stuffed piquillo peppers, and the chocolate andino for dessert, although the housemade coffee cinnamon ice cream was also stellar."

  • "I doubt I'll get to visit Peru so my wife and I were glad we got to eat at Andina's. Since we love quinoa, we had fun trying out the quinoa-crusted shrimp. The appetizer scallops (in cheese) was amazing. We also had the scallops for the main dish (which most people beside us also ordered). The vegetarian dish (honga saltados) was a let-down. The Johann Schild Riesling was the best we've had and the sommelier was very helpful. We will certainly go back. Andina's is a must-try when in Portland."

The flavors are so rich and unique; if you are looking for a "wow" food experience, you must give Andina a try. I generally treat this place as a special occasion restaurant since it is on the spendy side, but I always walk out feeling like I got my money's worth because the chefs are truly talented and offer a food experience I can't get anywhere else. Every item on the menu is a winner, just dive in."

  • "Great food, with surprising flavors, everything well-prepared, and huge portions on both starters and entres. Server very earnest, well-trained and working hard, but not really an easy welcoming manner. Very noisy, even early in the evening. Hard straight-backed wooden chairs uncomfortable to sit in for a long, leisurely meal. If you sit at a chair facing the walkways, people keep bumping into your chair even if you've pulled all the way into the table--tables too close together! Definitely worth coming back, because staff courteous as always and food is superb, but the noise level and uncomfortable seating mitigate against frequent visits (more than price, which is reasonable for the food quality)."

  • "The service was impeccable. The waiters were extremely attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. When you sit down, a basket of fresh bread is served with three dips. They were excellent, and not the usual stuff you get. The food portions were a good size. The flavours were perfectly combined and well seasoned. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, we paid 99 $ for starter, main course and a glass of wine each. What I didn't like about Andina is that the tables could be a bit wider apart. I literally sat closer to the man at the next table than to my husband and it took a while until we got comfortable with the noise level in the busy restaurant. All in all, a great experience for the tastebuds! I fully recommend this place."

  • "We decided to try Andina while researching vegan options during a trip to Portland. I appreciate any restaurant that has a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, but this place really takes vegan dining to the next level. I had Hongos Saltados (wild mushrooms sauteed with other vegetables in a soy sauce) - absolutely delicious - even the meat eaters were impressed. My husband had the Quinotto (seasoned quinoa with veggies), which was also lovely. Vegan sorbet options for us were mango and cinnamon grape - the latter was not a combination that I thought would be good together, but happily, I was wrong. We will definitely return to Andina on our next trip!"
