Diner Reviews
  • "I went here with my parents and a friend, but this would be a great romantic find. Low lighting and the hewn wood ceilings and candlelight set a nice ambiance. The food was very good. I had the 1/2 portion of the rigatoni which was still huge. It was delicious."

  • "Love the Wed. night Jazz. Food way too salty. Had burger - meat delicious, but all toppings too salty. French fries - potatoes nice and firm, but covered in salt. broccolini cooked well, but served so salty it was like eating popcorn. This amount of salt is not good for anyone, and if they do want to eat it in such quantities, can be added at the table. perhaps a nice coarse salt grinder could be on the table. We cannot eat this food as it is currently prepared."

  • "We stumbled upon this enjoyable place. The host was very welcoming and social. Our server was very sweet and attentive. Food was delicious. Many more things we want to try. Overall, a wonderful experience. Definitely will return."

  • "Wonderful evening and meal was lovely. Good presentation, paced well, attentive staff. Open Table most helpful on a past restaurant experience in Boston and gave us a number of points for the negative experience and we used here, thank you. I will be a customer again!"

  • "I requested a table based on physical handicap (crutches). Table was not ready at confirmed time. Seated within added time. Substitutions of pasta were made without being informed. This occurrence told us that the menu statement of fresh house made pasta was not. Manager apologized and entree was taken off bill."

  • "food was too expensive for something i can make at home, if i am to pay high $ amt, i want it to be something i haven't had before or even worse, i can make better at home."

  • "The three of us were looking for a new place to try and a friend of mine told me about Andiamo's Restaurant. We went and had a wonderful night , It was everything we hoped it would be. The food was great and our waitress was great also."

  • "Another great experience at Andiamo! We went to experience the "unplugged Sunday" menu and it was spectacular!! This is truly one of our favorite places. Always looking forward to our next visit :D"

  • "This is a lovely spot with live music after 9p. The space is inviting, and the var scene is lively. Maybe it was an off night, but the food was all off..my husband's pork was overcooked, the beet salad was mostly arugula (make the star the main ingredient), and the butternut squash ravioli tasted like over sweetened squash in a super bland sauce..the mint chocolate creme brûlée tasted like toothpaste (when we told the server politely, we noticed it was still on the bill - little things like that). If you want to go for drinks w/ friends, and a few apps, this is a fine place to do this. If you are not super picky about food, it's also a nice room/ambiance to spend a few hours in (if you don't mind the loud music after 9p)..."

  • "We initially tried Andiamo because they have added jazz on Wed nights, and the jazz was wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food, the warm welcome (even though we had not been there previously), and the good service. All in all, a great experience, and we will go back."

  • "We had a lovely evening at Andiamo. We were seated promptly, and as I had alerted the staff that it was my wife's birthday, we were seated by the gas fire, which was romantic and a nice touch. Jim Rogers, the owner, delivered our antipasto, which was very, very good. My short ribs done two ways was very flavorful and done to perfection, as was my wife's order of swordfish. The salads were creative and sized properly, and our desert was simply fantastic. Nice wine list. One of the highlights of the evening is the very good jazz trio that was playing that night. Not only were they accomplished musically, they were skilled and sensitive enough to play at a volume that allowed for conversation. A real treat. We look forward to returning."

  • "On arriving, there was confusion as to where we were going to sit. We had reserved a table but that wasn't known to the hostess. We then opted for the back room where we could still hear the music and hear each other. The waitress, Trisha, was attentive, polite and helpful. The food was good, especially the home made linguine (I had scampi) and my wife enjoyed the squash ravioli. Our dissapointment was the atmosphere, it felt austere. Given this level of what I consider fine dining, there was no sense of comfort or uniqueness, just a table, gray walls, and a small gas lit firepalce in the corner. It's hard to find real, good Italian style food (unless you come to my house). I would recommend Andiamo for the food but not the senses."

  • "The waitress greeted us upon arrival and asked us if we wanted water. We said yes and she asked tap or bottled? That kind of turned us off as we thought we were getting water laced with some sort of foreign bacteria when she said tap. There must be a better way to present this. Meathball appetizer was delicious. Ceasar salads were HUGE! I would split one the next time. The Chicken Parm was unusual. My husband got all excited because he LOVED the sauce with the meatball,s but the chicken parm came with spaghetti with pesto- sometimes you don't want to mix the two flavors. Braised short ribs were delicious. Lots of people there for a snowy night. Next time I think we will just order the meatballs and salads!"

  • "Arrived for dinner and had to wait next to the bathrooms. Watched walk ins get seated when we had a reservation. Finally sat in a near empty room. Not thrilled with the waiting area."

  • "Seated right in front of 1 person bathrooms. Not only are you in front of the bathrooms, you get to stare back at everyone waiting in line...It was very loud...Feels like your in the North End with the tables so close...My wife tried duck for the first and last time...I had the "famous" chicken parm..Now how can you screw up this dish..well they did..why would you put pesto on chicken parm? And to top it of they only had one valet for the "complimentary valet" service..took over 45 minutes for him to find our car...NEVER AGAIN!"

  • "We were very excited to try this local "hot spot" after hearing several positive reviews. Unfortunately the food was not the spectacular culinary experience we were hoping for - not only was the Chicken Parmesan on the bland side, but the low point of our meal was when my husband found a hair in the middle of his mason jar full of polenta! The server was very apologetic and my husband's meal was comped so I can't really complain but we won't be back. Sadly, the service and atmosphere did not make up for the mediocre food."

  • "Went to dinner Friday night with friends. The food was fantastic, service was great. At 8pm they started playing music in the lounge area which was very loud. Even though we were sitting in the dining room the music was so loud you could not talk to someone sitting across the table without shouting. If you plan on dining here I suggest you plan to finish before 8pm if you are looking for a quiet dinner. The music was only one singer and he played a nice assortment of music we all just thought it was a little too loud too early. I would suggest that the restaurant start the music at 9pm so the 7-7:30pm dinner crowd would be done eating before the loud music started. I would definitely go back again."

  • "Very nice atmosphere. Waitress seemed disorganized and overwhelmed. 2 meals came out incorrect and had to be sent back but we were compensated by 2 free desserts which was a surprise since the waitress didn't seem to notice the mistake or apologize."

  • "Took my wife to celebrate her birthday and wasn't sure what to expect. The whole experience was wonderful. Making reservation online was easy, we arrived and were greeted warmly, and taken to a cozy table near the fireplace on a cold winter night. Everyone wish my wife happy birthday all through the night and our waitress was wonderful. Appetizers were delicious, main course sumptuous, and desserts to die for. If you're looking for a warm, cozy, romantic restaurant then this is the place. The gem in Newburyport."

  • "With 2 kids, we don't get out much-when we do, we'd like good service and ambiance. We got neither at Andiamo. We got seated in the back room. The noise level was fine at the time-we could chat and hear our waitress when she showed up-she became less and less attentive as the meal went on. We ordered appetizers and she neglected to get our entree order (another waitress had to ck on us). The appetizers took @20 minutes to arrive. Our entrees arrived @40 minutes after our plates were cleared. The waitress forgot one of our sides as well. A party of 10 was then seated behind us-felt like they were yelling in my ear. My veal was tough and not cooked well. We got dessert to go-not comp'd. Should have stayed home."

  • "We had the New Year's Eve special menu. As always, Andiamo prepares excellent appetizers; we enjoyed the tuna crudo and the stuffed calamari. We both chose the veal chop, which was grilled medium rare and generous. I felt it could have been seasoned a bit more strongly. Service was friendly and fast without being rushed."

  • "Tried the specialties of the house as featured on Andiamo's web site and were delighted. The meatball app and bolognese entree were both spectacular. Jim Rogers is doing it right again in Newburyport."

  • "New years eve. The bar is not huge but you can sit there and eat and 2 smaller tvs. We had a single table for 2 in the dining room which is small and quaint. It was a limited new years menu but a nice selection of beef, chicken, or seafood. Not too loud but to be expected with a room with hard wood floors and post and beam structure. All-n-all a nice experience."

  • "We made a last minute reservation for Andiamo and were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service. My filet was done to perfection with delicious accompaniments - while my husbands sword fish was melt in your mouth delicious. My only disappointment was that we were seated by the door and the waiting guests were literally looking over our shoulders while we ate - other than that this place was a delight!"

  • "Food was good; Michael the waiter was abysmal to point of not refilling water even once, only stopping by every 20 minutes, not providing 2nd glass of wine but billing for it and limiting response to offer to remove it from bill; no apology or offer to get one. Was much more attentive to other diners. Mgmt clearly could not have cared less; one star Trip Advisor review with similar title provides more detail."

  • "Arrived at 7:15. Greeted warmly by host.. Server (Lily) professional and friendly. Meat and cheese board fabulous, better than expected. Two bourbon old fashioneds (named elderfashioneds here) delicious. Swordfish pan seared just right, fresh and flavorful. My wife a tad disappointed in the chicken parm. Appeared a bit overcooked and much darker than the typical golden brown. However, we did take most of it home and I had it the next day for lunch as a sandwich. It was juicy and done just right. It was the appearance that gave her pause. By the the way, she greatly enjoyed the pasta which had was paired with the chicken as well as the side of butternut squash which she ordered as an appetizer. Parking here a bit dicey. Will recommend."

  • "Have visited Andiamo a number of times, always had excellent meals and good-to-excellent service. This visit was consistent, with earlier visits, but overall experience was diminished by the early onset of VERY loud music. My group would have enjoyed staying for coffee and dessert, but we were driven out by the noise level. The musician was quite good ... but too loud and WAY too early."

  • "Awesome food. Hard to choose an entree so I'll just have to keep going back. Not a lot of appetizer choices but salads are great (and large - they split them up for us). It is a great combination of high-end food and nice ambiance without being the least bit pretentious. I think it's the best food in Newburyport!"

  • "We had requested the back dining area for dinner but the room was booked for a special function. The Resteraunt did call us to inform us the back dining area was booked. Since The quiter dining area was used by a special function group we had to sit in the front dining area which is very noisy due to hardwood floors and low wood ceiling. On Fridays they have a singer come in and we could barely hear him in what is a a small front dining area. However, the food and service was wonderful. I had the swordfish and my wife had the salmon. The swordfish dish is the chefs specialty. If you are going to eat here request the dining area in the back so you can have a conversation without talking loud"

  • "The ambiance was charming. The three of us were there for the first time. My butternut squash ravioli was delicious. My husbands lamb osso bucco was amazing according to him & our friend had the orichetta which she thoroughly enjoyed. My only minor complaint was that our waitress seemed a bit anxious for us to pay our check while we were enjoying coffee & dessert. Other than that, a very pleasant evening."

  • "Overall, our evening at Andiamo was a good one. On the up side, the food was well prepared and quite tasty. We were met at the door in a friendly and gracious manner, and were seated promptly. Our server was very pleasant, if not a bit scattered. It was a Saturday night, so the restaurant was very busy, and the bar, which is open to the dining area, was jumping and a touch on the loud side. The wine list at Andiamo, while not extensive, offers some very nice bottles in a decent range of prices. My only criticism would be of the Ceasar Salad, which was a bit uninspired, and the risotto was way, way too salty (I am on a low salt diet, so maybe I am overly sensitive). jWhen we go back, it will be mid-week when the room is a bit quieter."

  • "I have aways had a wonderful experieince. However, lately it seems that even though I had a reservation, I could not be seated where I would of liked. The staff is way to young, considering the average age of the guests. Hostess is to young and seemed not to know what she was doing. Our server was new or inexperienced as a server. Our bread came after the app and our drinks had to be sought out from another server, because our server was nowhere to be found. And then the drinks arrived pretty far into our entree's. Although he was very pleasant, he was obiously nervous or new at this. I still left him a 20% tip, because it was not his fault he was not trained correctly or long enough. What changed?? Management?"
