Diner Reviews
  • "We were a group of six, all dining here for the first time. Everything was great--the presentation, the food (try those tiny potatoes in "dirt" with sauces!), the service! The vegetarians, the fish mongers, the carnivores--everyone found an interesting array of choices and left saying we'd return again soon."

  • "This restaurant has a lovely, relaxing, elegant decor. The service is very attentive, but not overbearing. The paella was outstanding. They brought complementary gazpacho and house made potato chips to start the meal and a glass of sherry with dessert. These were all delicious and a nice surprise and addition to our meal. Even the bread was superior. Every aspect of this meal was enjoyable and we look forward to our return to this restaurant."

  • "We got a few small plates: meatballs in squid ink and crispy squid: OK, but I couldn't taste the black ink. croquettes. Roasted eggplant was delicious. Mussel croquettes with saffron emulsion and cilantro was delicious. White asparagus was OK but too cold--should have been taken out of the fridge earlier. Octopus seasoned with olive oil and pimienton de vera served under mashed potato puree was only OK."

  • "This restaurant is a good surprise in this neibourghood. Nice decoration, nice staff and good food for a standard price. Very happy to have found this place for our pre/post theatre moments."

  • "I met a friend there from Miami area and we had a great experience. Our waiter was adorable and very accommodating. The tapas dishes were delicious and plentiful, especially the potatoes with olives sprinkled on top, then dipping into the side sauces. The sangria was refreshing and tasty. At the end if our meal, the waiter brought us 2 glasses of sherry(sp?) which was a perfect way to complete our meal. I would recommend this place to friends and and look forward to returning for another delicious meal."

  • "First visit- impression: Excellent, beautiful surroundings, Not busy, just a few couples, small, young families. Miserable day, so sitting in the glass enclosed brownstone-type garden was a delight. Spanish style brunch food was imaginative, impeccably served, good sangria. Flamenco Tuesday Evening (free) will be our next visit."

  • "A miserable, cold, wet afternoon turned into a great evening once we got into Andanada. Despite having a (well-behaved) 7 year old with me, we were given a warm welcome. Some of our party were late and no one seemed upset. The waiter was perfect - helpful, generous, there when needed. The food and wine were both very good, and it was a nice place to sit and catch up with friends without feeling rushed in a very charming place."

  • "Great atmosphere and most of the food was tasty, but the paella was very fishy (i.e. did not taste fresh), and we had to send it back."

  • "My wife and I are critical diners. We are always looking for something to complain about. Unfortunately, we could not find anything to complain about. Overall, it was a great dining experience. We dined early that night (between 6 and 7 pm) which may have influenced our evaluations."

  • "Wonderful spot with fantastic Spanish food. Brunch was delicious and the sangria was to die for!"

  • "it is not cheap but it is worth it - interesting tapas - delightful atmosphere - good selection of Spanish wines - great place after Lincoln Center"

  • "My husband and I chose Andanada because it was open late and was near Lincoln Center. We didn't expect this to be our best meal during our 6 day visit to NYC, but it was. The food, especially the tapas, was wonderful, but the service was even better. The dishes are very creative and delicious. We don't know Spanish wines and our server was great about letting us have tastings before committing. The meal was very well paced. I can't wait to visit NYC again so that we can come her again."

  • "Great time at Andanada - Tuesday night has live flamenco with a guitarist and a singer. We got great service and a soup tapa on the house. Great sangria and paella. Pan con Tomate is very delicious."

  • "Found this restaurant by accident, late one night. The food is great, authentic Spanish with a little modern interpretation. Nice wine list with exclusive wines from Rioja. Try any of the Tobelos! Very attentive service. Went back with friends and everybody was enthusiastic. Definitely a place where you want to go back, and back!"

  • "Very cute place, it was completely empty when we came in at 12:30p for brunch, and we sat in a little enclosed garden area in the back that was very nice. The food was awesome, not a lot to choose from but good choices. The Serrano Eggs Benedict and the Pan con Tomate were great. The sangria was also pretty good. I would go back."

  • "I loved the Sangria--they don't add sugar, and it was just delicious. The food was different--interesting preparations, not always recognizable, and not really my kind of food. My dinner partner is more adventurous than me and he loved every bite. We had many tapas just to try different flavors, and the check was hefty."

  • "Andanada was a wonderful surprise. This small gem has big ambitions for food. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and interesting in ingredients and sensations. Wine list was excellent, too, but limited to Spanish wines. service was attentive and restrained at the same time, immediate assistance, otherwise left alone."

  • "Forget the tapas. Forget the neighborhood hole in the wall. This is big-time Spanish gastronomy. And they put their best foot forward with imaginative Restaurant Week prix fixe offerings. Wonderful breads + olive oil to start. Too much food for the others with me though perfect for my appetite. Plus thoughtful extras, from mini-soups at first to madeleines after dessert. Paella is superb and served elegantly. Broad wine list, though stay with whites if you like softer taste as lightest red has authority. Being a bowling alley configuration, the room's a bit short on ambience though intimate enough. Avoid mid-restaurant where guitar + vocals project unnecessarily loudly. All in all, highly recommended."

  • "The service was good, wait staff very attentive, but overall the tapas selection sounded better than they taste. Very expensive evening for sub par food."

  • "I had a really enjoyable dinner at Andanada. Service was friendly and the food innovative. Comfortable bar and dining room. It's nice having a good tapas restaurant on the Upper West Side. Will return soon."

  • "We went for Restaurant Week and didn't love their paella + choc cake option. We chose to get a tapas: calamari with squid ink aeoli - comfort food, olives - out of a can, scallop tartar - inventive and served on scallop shells on a bed of salt, and the pulpo - which looked like a bowl of mashed potatoes when we got it but turned out to be light, fluffy, and creamy with perfectly cooked octopus pieces on the bottom. We had a few questions about the wine list and got a solid recommendation. We also sat in the back, a glassed-in room, which we enjoyed thoroughly. Would go back there if I needed to have an intimate meal in a warm environment. I'm always hooked for good service, which we received plenty of."

  • "In the otherwise crowded upper west side brunch mob, Andanada is tucked away and quiet with the most amazing menu! Service was quick and the food was deliscious! I will absolutely return and bring friends!"

  • "My mom and I just got into the city and were looking for a place to eat. I saw Andanada on Opentable, and made the reservations for 20 minutes later. From the moment we walked in, my mom and I both knew this place was gonna be great. The ambiance, cozy and chic but not loud or pretentious, complemented the tapas. And oh my the food. We had a mix of their traditional and modern tapas and it was all inventive and superb. The creativity did not detract from the taste of the dishes at all, but instead felt completely natural and well-designed. We had a cabbage dish and a butternut squash plate that were especially exquisite. The arroz con leche dessert was probably the best I've ever had--light, creamy, flavorful. We're definitely coming back."

  • "Wife and I went to try to this place for Restaurant Week, since on Open Table had many good reviews on its list. Food was good, not great - must try again when it's not crazy due to Restaurant week. The service could have been better. Our server had no problem bringing bread to us, but we asked the bartender to check on our appetizer and main course. It seemed as if our dishes were either left on the warmer, or our order was placed at all and was made last minute. 25 minutes for an appetizer when half the restaurant is empty at 1030 at night does not make sense. We also asked the bartender for our check, as it seemed our server had disappeared. Go for the food, but expect to ask for stuff.."

  • "We had a reservation for dinner at Andanada at 9:30 pm on a Friday. We arrived a little early and had a drink at the bar. At 9:30pm, the host told us the table was still occupied and we'd have to wait a few more minutes. He finally showed us to our table at 10:25. We quickly ordered -- but during our meal, when we decided we wanted another vegetable side dish, we were told the kitchen was closed…. Really not ok."

  • "Excellent food and service! From the host to the waiters!"

  • "Had a great selection of tapas during a very enjoyable mid evening meal. Tapas are each about half a main course and the wine list by the glass is good quality. Slightly odd to deliver our jamon Serrano at the end after everything else, but I guess it must have taken a long time to slice fresh by hand. Other than that and the fact that our waiter didn't quite manage to match the charm of the front of house staff, it would have definitely got 5 stars."

  • "There seem to be two philosophies restaurants take towards restaurant week. Either they showcase their food so that diners want to come back, or they take the cheap route and throw together some crappy excuse for a meal. I hope this place took the latter approach. This was the worst paella I've ever had. Just gross. The chocolate flan was good enough, but was basically instant chocolate pudding."

  • "We came here to celebrate Valentine's Day, and Andanada was one of the few restaurants I came across that didn't serve an overpriced, "special" menu that was forced upon everyone. Instead, we were free to order from their regular menu as if it were any other normal day. They did decorate the place a bit to remind everyone of the day. They also provided complimentary bubbly to all couples, which was a nice touch. Overall, the food was very good. Not quite mind-blowing, but certainly by no means terrible and worth a second visit. The tapas selection was quite expansive, so I wouldn't hesitate to return."

  • "We went here for restaurant week, and I must say the service was fantastic the food excellent and the experience one of a kind l the server (Carlos) was so attentive, my date loved the cheese spread and not only explained to her what I was made of , goat and sheep milk, he brought us so e extra cause she liked it so much, the sangria went down like fruit punch and the ambiance was so romantic and charming. My date was impressed and we look forward to returning."

  • "Dessert was a mousse, but was billed as a flan. Salad was OK. Paella was disappointing. Service was excellent. A better-than-satisfactory choice for a pre-theatre meal. Veal cheek was excellent."

  • "The restaurant was quiet around 2-3 for brunch. They have a nice enclosed patio with lots of light, but the inside was pretty dark. The brunch menu was limited, but I had a tortilla, which was tasty."

  • "I was thoroughly impressed by my experience at Andanada. My fiancee and i really enjoyed the experience. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating. Although it was fairly crowded when we arrive, the noise level was very balanced. The food and drinks were excellent. We're looking forward to going back soon!"

  • "Loved my dining experience at Andanada. Started off with some sangria for the table and some tablas appetizer. We did the Jamon Iberico, which was perfect way to start off the meal. And I finished with the pan-seared Cod, which was honestly one of the best pieces of fish I'd had in a long time. Bit dark in the restaurant, so definitely had the feel of a place catering to couples."
