"From the outside the place doesn't look at wonderful as it really is. We walked down the stairs and were pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of the place. Service is impeccable, food was outstanding. I would definitely recommend it."

"Not very impressed would be my one-line summary. The food was average and the service very pushy. Mostly I just did not like the service and the food is not good enough to make up the difference so it's highly unlikely we will be going. The place is old school so its not changing and itnis obviously a conscience business decision to operate in the manner they do."

"I come to NYC weekly and rarely eat at the same restaurant twice -- but I will have to make an exception for Ancora. Though the outside needs a little facelift (new awning would help), the inside did not disappoint -- elegant, intimate, cozy - perfect for conversation. Service was efficient and prompt and the staff knowledgeable, paying attention to detail. I went with the waiter's recommendation -- Chilean sea bass, one of many specials that evening. Without exaggeration, it was the best I have even eaten. When one of the staff noticed I was not trying the sauce that accompanied the sea bass, he encouraged me to try it, and I was glad he did, as it added a little kick to the meal. I left completely satisfied and eager to return."

"What an amazing meal! The prosciutto and melon appetizer was heaven and the ravioli entree was great as well. The service was classic and impeccable. From my welcome at the door until they hailed a cab for me to depart, every single aspect of the experience was perfect. This is my new favorite restaurant in the city.
NOTE: It's in the heart of the Financial District, so it's closed on weekends. I was there Friday for dinner and the restaurant was half full.
A perfect choice for business, couples, special occasion or anytime you want to treat yourself to amazing food, quiet atmosphere, served with perfection by a collection of charming hosts."

"We live in the FiDi & always looking for something local to quench our desire for a good feed.Not many places in FIDi fall into that category.I think people put up with it because there is nothing else. We had walked past this restaurant a few times, but never went inside as it has 'grubby' curtains front doors. Its not very inviting unfortunately. The man at the door reminded me of places I had been to in Italy,really rough around the edges but passionate about the place,the wines and the food. "Its the best Italian in town" he said. Long story short,we had a suprisingly wonderful night - the service was excellent, food amazing and the sambuca to die for. I would go again and recommend you do too."

"I eat here frequently. The honeydew melon with prosciutto and buratta cheese is outstanding and my standby appetizer. Key lime pie was light, refreshing and delicious. This time around I found the risotto primavera bland - but this is the first time I ever had any type of disappointment at Ancora. I will go back frequently."
