A word from Anchovies & Olives
Anchovies & Olives, located at 1550 15th Avenue in the booming Pike Pine Triangle neighborhood on Seattle’s Capitol Hill opened in February of 2009. This Italian seafood and pasta focused restaurant is number four for chef Ethan Stowell and his business partners. The wine list is 100% Italian with an emphasis on white varietals. Anchovies & Olives serves dinner Sunday-Thursday from 5pm –11pm and Friday and Saturday from 5pm-Midnight. Anchovies & Olives has a small patio for seasonal dining.

  • "We went to Anchovy and Olive about a year or so ago. It was excellent, through and through. I was excited to take a visitor from out of town there again. This time was good but not great. We ordered oysters that were excellent, grilled octopus salad that was good, and then finished with two dishes to share..halibut and rock fish. The halibut was overdone...which is a sin in this part of the world. The rock fish was nicely prepared and delicious...but...both dishes were extremely (over board) salty... Will possible go there again...but was a bit disappointed."

  • "We waited almost 1/2 hour for cold appetizers and the place was not crowded. We both ordered swordfish -- normally one of our favorite foods. We received about 4 oz. portion of what was probably Escolar-- very watery and mushy compared to firm texture of true swordfish. Even the desserts were not enticing. The service was non- existent. Later in the evening, around 9 pm, the crowd picked up -- great ambience for grazing and drinks-- just dont ever go here for dinner. Finally there is almost no parking available in the area."

Oyster Power Hour is a great way to experience a variety of oysters specifically prepared with various condiments to enhance the flavors of the oysters. As for the main menu, the selections seem to change with the seasons. The pastas, crudo, and salads tend to be my favorites."

  • "The name of this restaurant just sounds tasty. Food was good, and I say good not excellent because 1) the risotto I ordered was WAY TOO SALTY, and 2) the octopus appetizer was charred, and not in a good way. I would still come back though, and possibly ask them to hold the salt on my order. After our meal, we were given small bags of fresh pasta (as opposed to candy, I guess?), which was a very nice touch. Cooked the pasta at home and it was a great reminder of the meal we had."

  • "My meal of stripped bass was amazing but my hubby had the crab linguini, which he enjoyed, but I felt was under seasoned :( we tried the scallops appetizers and weren't prepared for it be cooked with just lemon juice - Just ok. I also enjoyed a grapefruit sorbetto but my hubby found the genache tart a little dry. Our server was great and helped with some non-dairy options for me. We'll be back!"

  • "The first thing that comes to mind is the service. Our wait-person was respectful of our conversations but managed to politely interject at just the right times (which means she was watching our table carefully) knew the menu and could respond to any question. And our plates and silverware were always replaced at the right times and water was always available. (Shouldn't ALL restaurants do this?) And really, is there an ES restaurant that ever fails? I don't think so. My group loves to share lots of taste treats and A&O's is our kind of place, nothing disappointed and everything you've tried had a new twist. the standouts for me were the scallops with pork belly and I haven't had oysters that fresh and delicious since I picked them myself"

  • "we thought everything was very good., except the octopus salad. It just seemed fairly bland. not dressed enough. not enough octopus. we has more potato than octopus. The sewrvice was great , very friendly hip waiter. dishes came out in a timely fashion. Stand out dishes were the bucatini with clams and guanciale, Ahi crudo, and mackeral with sun chokes and oranges.The only other issue was we thought the music was just a bit too loud."

  • "I normally really enjoy this restaurant and in fact, I enjoy all the Ethan Stowell restaurants. My experience this past Saturday was disappointing. The table next to us was super loud - albeit not something the restaurant can control. But the service was slow and not very attentive. Felt like I had to look for the server if I needed anything. The food tasted like it wasn't served immediately, i.e., a little bit cold. With all the great restaurants in Seattle, I am not in a rush to return."

  • "Creatively prepared pasta dishes -- well done and full of flavor!! The use of preserved lemon was a nice surprise on the side dish of brussel sprouts which I am going to try at home (as soon as I find a Mason Jar). The availability of off-street parking is a plus on crowded Capital Hill. Anchovies now ranks as my favorite amongst the stable of Ethan Stowell eateries."

  • "food was exceptional....the ahi, the swordfish, and crab linguine were all delicious wish there were more salad choices music was too loud, unpleasant with the meal Stowell's pasta was very, very good; certainly makes any pasta dish special, but our home-made pasta better Service was perfect.   • "Mike was our sever and did great. Nice balance between being entertaining but not overly so. He also had excellent recommendations and did not just point to the most expensive items. The fried oysters were a little heavy on the breading and the chili aioli was fantastic. The yellowtail crudo was very sweet and flavorful. The raw oysters were spot on. The pasta was addictive and we will be back!"

  • "Oyster, Escolar, Soft eggs and anchovies were very good. service was very interrrupted . They forgot our main course Scallops but we didn't mind because we were full by that point. But the fact that nobody came to check on us after the pasta course and simply handed us the bill at the end was a little disappointing especially since we were seated in front of the service open kitchen area. I would go back for the food if I needed a restaurant in that area but I hope I have better service next time. 2 strikes they might be out."

  • "I met two friends in town for only a night. Atmosphere was nice - enough happening to know you are out, but also quiet enough to maintain a conversation. The appetizers were delicious (even the Brussels Sprouts!). The mains were good, but I don't think anyone was over the moon for their order. Service was a little sporadic. I think hearing how fantastic this place was for so long, my expectations may have been a little high."

  • "My best friend is a chef and lives in Seattle - so I have to be careful where we eat. She loved this place! The cocktails were fantastic and so was the wine list. We dined on great big fresh Sea Cow oysters and the Saffron Sardine - both amazing!! We shared freshly made ravioli stuffed with mushrooms and asiago or parmesan (I'm not the chef). My friend was happy and we both left satisfied with this find."

  • "Went for the first time this past Saturday (Feb 15). Was happy to get a reservation so last-minute since it was Valentine's Day weekend, but then concerned that the restaurant wasn't completely booked. My concern was quickly dismantled, however: the oysters were delicious, as was the branzino and the chocolate torte. Drinks were also great. Beautiful presentation and the waiter was super hospitable / fast. Nothing to complain about - I'd definitely go back."

  • "This is ok but not as good as other Ethan's restaurants. I have been to all of them and this one is the most disappointing one. Service is nice, as always. The pasta dishes, we ordered two types, not as tasty as How to cook a wolf. Other dishes is just ok. I may just skip this one and go to the other ones in the chain."

  • "My boyfriend and I have lived near Anchovies and Olives for some time. We always walk by and talk about going. We finally went on Thursday night and now I am wishing that we had gone sooner! Everything about the evening was fantastic! The food, the service, and the ambiance were all great. We had an assortment of dishes including the linguine, swordfish, and sea scallops. The swordfish with the salsa putanesca was definitely our favorite dish. We of course saved room for dessert which was also fantastic. We had a pannacotta that was delicious. We especially like the texture that the candied pine nuts added to the dessert. We definitely would recommend anchovies and olives to anyone and will definitely be going back soon ourselves!"

  • "It had been a couple years since I had been to Anchovies & Olives, so I decided to take some out of town guests. It was as good as I remembered it. The pasta is excellent and not your standard fare. The squid ink pasta was so flavorful that I could have eaten it alone and been perfectly satisfied. The olive oil based "sauce" was slightly spicy. The cuttlefish was perfectly cooked and not chewy. I still have not tried any of the main dishes because I can't pass up the pasta and I have never been disappointed. Our waiter was very informative, cheerful but not gushy and perfectly attentive."

  • "My friend and I greatly enjoyed lingering and talking over this delicious meal. I took one star off the service because the server made kind of a mess of her branzino when he took the bones out. And one star off ambiance because it was so dark that we had trouble reading the menu even with the candle moved center table."

  • "We've eaten here several times and the food is consistently good. This time the music was extremely loud and awful. Call me old-fashioned but I believe that music should add to the ambience of a good restaurant and should be pleasurable and somewhat background. This music literally made me want to leave. First we asked that it be turned down, which helped only marginally. Then we asked that it be changed, and although out wait person told us that they were restricted as to which stations they could have on, it did get a little better. This one feature significantly colored our dining experience to the extent that we probably won't be returning there any time soon."

  • "Clearly, the highlight at this place is the Crudo menu. We loved the ahi and the escolar. These were much more flavorful than the item from the pasta menu we tried. I think I'll go back in warm weather and try the whole Crudo menu in lieu of the rest!"

  • "On all counts we had an excellent experience with one exception. There is nothing in the restaurant to absorb sound. It bounces off the many hard surfaces. The recorded music was too loud for the space. Otherwise the food and service was excellent!"

  • "We ordered 5 different plates and rated 4 of them outstanding. We were in time for the Power hour and ordered oysters that were the tastiest I've ever eaten. We also scored some very good wine at a very reasonable price. The smoked Trout salad was very unusual, very fresh and super tasty. The pasta with the anchovies was a hit - something different you can't get most places. We shared the duck breast which was moist, tasty, cooked perfectly and plenty for the two of us. Mike was a wonderful server, personable and funny - attentive, but not intrusive. We'll definitely be back."

  • "One of the best steaks I have ever had - Not a big cowboy sized piece of meat but incredibly tender, well-seasoned, and cooked just to my request. My wife's linguini was very tasty but quite rich - both of our meals were cooked with a lot of butter which made the linguini filling - she couldn't finish it. However it made the Brussels sprouts appetizer delicious! I hate Brussels sprouts but I ordered them for my wife. I ate more sprouts that evening than I had in my entire life! Our server was exceptional. Just the right amount of attention and when we were stumped by the wine list (we are wine novices), he made two wonderful suggestions that complemented our meals perfectly."

  • "The service was perfect, but my husband and I were underwhelmed by the menu. The food was good, but leaning too far in the direction of wanna-be chic. It was also way too loud, with the din of Bar Cotto (which shares a kitchen) echoing off the concrete floors, exposed building mechanics, and naked wood furniture. The opposite of cozy and relaxing, with food that is passable, but not worth the hassle of parking and the sacrifice of ambience, with so many better alternatives in town."
