From the owners of Town Hall and Salt House comes Anchor & Hope Restaurant, an oyster bar and fish house located at 83 Minna Street.   • "My girlfriend's and I came to Anchor & Hope for a late dinner and were very pleased to find a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. The food was amazing and our server was knowledgeable, funny and great to work with. All of the staff was wonderful keeping our waters filled and making sure that we had everything we needed. We will be back again and will definitely be bringing more friends."

  • "Good service from staff. Food was good and everyone cleaned their plates from shrimp to lobster roll to chicken sandwich. The chips and aioli mayonnaise were nice appetitizers from the restaurant. It kept me there while my table mates made their decisions. Without liquor, the bill was inexpensive for good food and ability to sit and chat and not be pusehd out the door although it was busy. I'm very grateful to the wait staff for them letting our group catch up after not being together for years."

  • "A small restaurant, tucked away in a downtown San Francisco side street, it is a great choice for lunch or dinner. The entire menu is a winner. This visit we ordered the Ceviche Campeche, Arugula Salad, Red-spotted Trout, and the Crispy Chicken Breast with Fava Bean Puree, all of which got thumbs up from those at our table. The raw bar was also good, albeit a bit pricey. It is certainly worth revisiting."

  • "Great atmosphere lends itself well to a delightful menu! Fantastic eclectic options with a focus on fantastic seafood specialties (I had the Lobster Roll and LOVED it!). Place is fairly pricey but no more so than one would expect in Downtown SF. Tucked away on a side street off 2nd and Mission gives it prime location while still providing that off the beaten path feel. Staff is friendly and attentive. The place fills up quickly at lunch and it is plain that much of the crowd are satisfied regulars. I love the place and will definitely be back!"

I prefer when restaurants can better manage this however the food really was great! Get the crab stuffed peppers!"

  • "I thought the prices were too high. We are accustomed to spending $50/per. for dinner, an app., and wine, but $70/per just seemed too much. I would not return on a regular basis @ that price, but would only make this a very special evening… maybe 1x/year. Maybe that's the style they're looking for, but I think it's too bad."

Most importantly, the beer list is longer than the wine list and they have an incredible selection. If you know anything about beer, this place is a must."

  • "We got there early (5:30pm) since my kids and I were meeting my husband after work ( near his office). The place was practically empty but by 6:15 there wasn't an empty table. Place was hopping! The food was excellent including a delicious steak if you choose not to go with the numerous seafood or shellfish entrees. I highly recommend any of the muscle dishes."

  • "The food at Anchor and Hope is really good, but unfortunately the waitstaff is not. Our waiter seemed disinterested and distracted, and we soon realized why. My friend was facing the bar area and watched our waiter and some of his co-workers drinking continuously during the 90 minutes we were there. Too bad for the owner - they made our experience such that I would not recommend - too many other restaurants to visit that have sober waitstaff."

  • "You need reservations as this place was packed for lunch. The food was good as was the service. The tables are close together and it can get loud but it is worth it. We had the trademark Lobster Roll and it was good. I look forward to trying some of the other items on their menu. They also have 13 beer taps that's worth another trip after work. I would recommend."

  • "Anchor and Hope has great sea food, but we have always had to wait well over 20 minutes for our reservation. Reservations always seem to be overbooked. On our last visit, we arrived at 7:42 (checked our phones) and the hostess said we were 15 minutes early. Big problem is there is no place to wait except on the street."

  • "A and H continues to improve. Food is always first rate, the beer and wine list totally interesting. What's improved the most lately is the level of service. There is now sufficient waitstaff to take care of all of the tables, even during prime time. this is a very welcome change. The trout and the mussels are both sensational."

  • "The service was terrific when my fiancee's family and I dined on Friday, February 28. I mentioned in my Open Table reservation that we were dining together to celebrate my fiancee's mother's birthday. When we arrived, there were cards wishing happy birthday attached with twine to the menu. At the end of the meal, the waitress took care of bringing my mother-in-law-to-be a cupcake with a candle in it and we all sang happy birthday. It was a happy experience for everyone. - Thank you Anchor and Hope!"

  • "Anchor and Hope more than fulfilled our expectations. After a matinee performance of the Lamplighters "Die Fledermaus", the two dozen delicious oysters paired with a fine Lamberti Prosecco continued the celebratory mood of the show. The four of us shared the angels on horseback, charred baby octopus, the Catalan mussels, and the monk fish. All excellent preparations of the finest ingredients. We ordered a bottle of 2011 Foradori Manzoni Bianco and were surprised when a second server appeared with burgundy glasses to replace the more typical white wine glass that were first presented. He explained that the wine deserved this glass, and then gave a detailed description of the wine and its maker. An excellent dining experience all round."

  • "The food is terrific. We shared the Roasted beets salad with goat cheese, tasty and very fresh We also shared the Ceviche Campechana. I love ceviche, and this rivaled the BEST I have ever enjoyed. For entrees, we greatly enjoyed the Red Spotted Trout, beautifully boned and presented and the Linguine with clams. Attentive service, with a visit near the end from the Assistant Manager to double check that everything had been perfect. We can wait to take some "foodie" friends, and try some other delights"

  • "Mediocre. The servings too big & not interesting enough for me to compel myself to finish, despite spending $27/entree on a special occasion. Too much butter, and, near the skin, the trout had a weird taste of river water. Maybe that makes it sound nice, but actually it was whack and I've not had that before. Started wondering if it was farm raised fish, and thus the vaguely mucky taste? On the bright side, I did enjoy the house-made potato chips. The part of my fish that did not taste mucky was nice. My boyfriend got mahi--it was tasty but too salty. Not enough veggies on either plate to compliment the (huge amount of) fish. Probably won't go back."

  • "I took my team of almost 14 out to Anchor & Hope while we were in town for a conference. Groups of this size are not their forte as it is not a huge restaurant but they really took care of us. We were seated at one long table and everyone commented on the good food and ease of being able to communicate with others at the table."

  • "Finally a restaurant serving real food! The prices are really high ($105 for the mid size seafood platter, $12-$17 for appetizers) A sardine appetizer for $14 had only one sardine; the octopus ($17) though tasty had more beans than octopus. Nonetheless everything was good to very good. A few items on the menu were tempting and looked a bit more reasonable and we'll be back. It's got quite a vibe. Noisy and lively but the room is big and the ceiling high so we could actually hear our table companions if we worked at it. One drawback, and who in San Francisco will be surprised???, the parking is almost impossible. The valet service they recommend at a nearby restaurant is $30!!! On second thought maybe the seafood wasn't that expensive!!"
