Anchor and HopeFantastic ExperienceI visit San Francisco often and I never miss an opportunity to have dinner at Anchor & Hope, a great local restaurant with excellent food and a great atmosphere. Truly a place you can't miss....image reservations if you don't want a long wait and then take in the scene.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite restaurant in SFThe ceviche is the best I've ever had and the halibut was delicious. They have a great selection of beers and the waiters/bartenders are always knowledgeable about the menu/beer list. Really neat ambience with an open rafter ceiling and thick boat lines hanging above you. I've only been to SF twice, but this is easily my favorite place so far and I don't see that changing.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis time we to stuck appetisers,This time we to stuck appetisers, moules fritters and a very nice Pinot noir from Oregon. All very good. Love this place for any occasion.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ServiceExcellent service overall, we had a dinner planned for our families after engagement photos and A&H staff went out of their way to welcome us and prepare champagne in advance. In addition, our menus had special tags on them for our celebration as well. Food was also fantastic, but the experience was all the more special with the attention to service.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was over-enthusiasticOur server was over-enthusiastic about his wine knowledge. It took him a while to figure out that our table housed a bunch of wine geeks with many, many years of experience. Only then did he stop trying to tell us which bottles to order.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMangels on horseback, scallopsangels on horseback, scallops and halibut...all excellent. housemade chips...some of the best! Definitely recommending and coming back.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAnchor & Hope was fantasticThey always have delicious fish dishes-which we thought was appropriate for our niece who graduated with an MA in marine biology. Everything was perfect!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, mediocre serviceFood was pretty good. Service was just so so. We ordered a bottle of white and they suggested to keep it cold for us back at the bar. Every time we wanted a refill we had to flag someone down plus the time between the salads and main course was excessive. Just expect a little more when paying these prices.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood Cali CuisineNice open warehouse type floor plan with unique decor, good for groups. I came with 6 work colleagues for business lunch. Food is outstanding, great selection for seafood lovers but also many other options in the menu as well. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. And good central location for financial district dining5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for business lunchService was fast and food variety is good for a client business lunch when you're not sure what everyone can or will eat. Couldn't get reservation until 1 PM and there kitchen closed at 2 so it was questionable whether one our ate arrivals would be served lunch but they accommodated. Although I could see our waitress negotiating with the kitchen staff. But we all got to eat! Would have loved the lobster roll but, as our waitress explained due to suppliers price increase lobster was only now available with dinner although we would have paid dinner price for it.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMthey were very nice to ourthey were very nice to our graduate and served her and her companion a glass of champagne and had a message on each of our menus to congratulate the party. No appetite that night so hard to rate food. Rest of party enjoyed it!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOyster Feast wHipsters/Suits/loversReservations for 8 ended up with 10, staff very flexible for a great business dinner. Anchor is close to hotels, offices and convention center. Dynamic scene of hipsters, suits and lovers with the hubbub of a busy restaurant. Good wine list and great selection of sea food. The oysters were the big hit, so if you have a crowd that enjoys a slurp or two this is a great location. Staff was very attentive and flexible as we had a crowd at the bar waiting on late arrivals, served us some appetizers etc. around the table and at the bar.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came, we ate, we lovedMy brother and I, both out of towners, we told we just had to try this place. After being turned away the night before, we made reservations for the following Sunday night. We couldn't be happier we did. Everything was delicious. From the extensive beer list down to the homemade potatoe chips served with our appetizers. Highly recommended!!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful restaurant in the hoodI work a block away so it's easy breezy. I recommend to fans coming or going from a game. Each time I've been there my experience is the same ; ) so I have nothing but good to say, except for one thing. A&H's appetizers are overpriced, yet they are yummy and additive and keep me coming back. So they win and I win, but I also loose - ha-ha.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great but theThe food was great but the service was outstanding. Whoever put together the staff should be commended - each and every person we encountered from the time we walked in to the time we left, we received exceptional service. We were the first to arrive just a few minutes before opening time and even when the restaurant filled up, the caliber of service never waivered.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pork loin I ordered wasThe pork loin I ordered was one of the best preparations of pork I have ever had...the flavor combinations with the white corn and the spices of the chutney were excellent.
However, this being a restaurant known for their seafood, I was unimpressed with the seafood options we order.
Apps
- Ceviche Mixto: Bland and way too much "green tomato gazpacho"...obviously used to cut down on the amount of seafood given
- Baby Octopus and Chorizo Too many white beans and not enough baby octopus and chorizo, also on the bland side
- Mussels: I personally did not have any, but our friend said they were the best he has had
Entree
- Scallops: Overcooked, small in size and not many given. Mussels served with this were not good...wouldn't recommend it.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent seafood & beer spotBrought the HireVue team out after working a long conference, great selection of appetizers to share, excellent food and ambiance. There was lots of good conversation in the restaurant, not enough to be too loud, created a good energy.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day...Great place to go with co-workers...when forced to travel on Mother's Day!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!We randomly went to Anchor and Hope after wandering around downtown. I ended up having some of the best fish and chips I've ever had! WOW! Thanks!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's all about the foodThe food is great. Just what you want from a seafood restaurant, everything was very fresh and delicious.
The fresh oysters were wonderful, as were all the appetizers and the entrees. I wish they had a more extensive dessert menu. We brought wine, so I didn't take a look at the wine list. I did notice they don't do hard alcohol, which is too bad. They have a great bar space, it'd be nice to have a cocktail before dinner.
The food is why you go here, and it's completely worth it.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousIf you love sea food this is the place for you. There are some dishes for the non sea food lovers too. Husband's favourite was the Bollywood mussels and house made fries. His favourite dishe with curry sauce. He hardly spoke the whole time, just ate. Grilled Portuguese sardines. Nicely seasoned had with the mixed green salad with English peas. Service was friendly and attentive. All in all. Love this place. Would recommend reserving if going at weekend, do walk ins. Serve at bar if prefer. As we both love sea food this place is now on our favourite list.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time visitingThis was my second time visiting Anchor & Hope and I was again very well satisfied. The food is beautifully and simply prepared. There is a clean and simple presentation of every dish. The menu is a bit sparse, but the four main courses I've tasted on my two visits were consistently tasty and enjoyable. Probably the most sinfully good item on the menu is the bacon wrapped oyster appetizers... they are absolutely delicious!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNice restaurant, best service!Nice place, and very good peruvian fusion food.
I would recommend it to visit
Excelent service!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFreezing Hot SpotVery friendly staff and knowledgable. Noise level was rather high, made it difficult to talk to each other. As for some security reason the front door had to be kept open which resulted in a constant unpleasant current of cold air. The food itself was very good.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWas here several years agoWas here several years ago -- food now is even better! The mussels done bollywood style is one of the best dishes I've ever eaten!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI found the menu limited -I found the menu limited - lots of starches, but no vegetable options. The seafood, other than what was raw, was usually fried, breaded, or covered in a sauce. There should be more fresh seafood, but non-raw options. It was loud and there was no liquor - not good for talking and a date. Basically, it was hard to eat Paleo here.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed our dinner. However,I enjoyed our dinner. However, where are the points? The reservation was made directly through OpenTable.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMReally a good restaurant butReally a good restaurant but the service was not very attentive.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good food, but as aReally good food, but as a warning not the best for a business lunch - very loud inside.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAll aboard Anchor and HopeIntelligent wine and beer menu accompanying a well prepared fun seafood menu. Deep fried bacon wrapped oysters sounded like a tragedy but with the assurance from the staff we tried them. Outstanding. The oyster was very well respected and the bacon didn't over power. Found that touch to be present with everything we tried.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood seafood - great oystersGood seafood - great oysters & the dorade was de-boned & wonderful!!!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI was really happy with theI was really happy with the quality of every single dish. Each was tasty, a bit surprising (in a good way) and more delicious than I expected. Extremely fine seafood experience.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, eclectic beer optionsExcellent, eclectic beer options and friendly, knowledgeable bartender3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find for unique foods!Came here on a recommendation from my sister. It was definitely a great recommendation. All the food we had had such a great flavours twist! Great flavours combinations that were very much unique. Must try the scallops and the dessert! The clam chowder was only ok, the calamari a bit above average and the lobster roll was quite good but the scallops and desserts...AMAZING! The waitress was nice throughout and service was generally good.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMlobster roll was bland coleslawlobster roll was bland

Service was great and friendly. Highly recommend Anchor and Hope.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite spot for Seafood lovers! As soon as we walked in, the woman in the front of the house was warm, funny and quick. The ambiance was energetic for a Thursday night with lots of groups as well as couples.A great place to come after work or for a special meeting place. We ate all the appetizers and split them between the 5 of us in our party. The oysters were superb as well as the mussels. Our waitress was fun and helpful all night. It was a birthday dinner and we had a blast- we would highly recommend this fun spot.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, except forFood was great, except for the coleslaw. It had an unbearably strong raw onion flavor. I would like to return, except that it's too expensive for what you get. I was barely full after appetizer and entree. Not a good value.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great staff, greatGreat food, great staff, great scene. First time and will definitely go back again!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative, healthy food andCreative, healthy food and a great place to discuss business. I would have never known about this place if it wasn't for Open Table and I am glad I found it.
The staff was great.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on Valentine's DayWe went on Valentine's Day which may not be the best night to judge the kitchen. But the food was great and the restauant was jumping with all the "romantic couples". The decor is certainly spartan but set to look like an old warehouse.
Well worth a visit for their seafood.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
