A word from Anassa Taverna
This bi-level space is meant to evoke the Greek seashore, with warm weathered colors and decorative jewelry that's also for sale.

Menu includes Mediterranean classics as a Greek salad, grilled lamb chops and a swordfish kebab. There's a raw bar, and daily specials that might include veal stew or slow-cooked pork shoulder. Continued

  • "Everything was good, but we waited to long for the waiter to take our order. They need to improve on the service. Otherwise the food is very good."

  • "After a morning of shopping at bloomingdales, which is conveniently across the street from Anassa Taverna, we had a really wonderful lunch at Anassa. There were 3 of us, and we ordered a whole bunch of appetizers, and each one was better than the next. They were all so delicious, and we enjoyed every last bite. The octopus, the meatballs, the spinach pie, the saganaki, the Greek salad, all excellent, and followed by a really nice bottle of white wine from santorini. The staff were on the ball, service was great, the maître' d very personable as well. Excellent Greek lunch! OPA!"

  • "We went here for a client lunch and the food was great. My only word of warning, is that the food / service was quite slow. If you are in a hurry be sure to order as soon as you are seated."

  • "I went to Anassa with my wife at 6:00 PM prior to a 7:30 movie. The restaurant did not appear to be busy and we advised our waiter that we were in a hurry so that we would not be late for the movie. He definitely appeared to be somewhere else. We ordered drinks and dinner as soon as we sat down. The drinks came....and we waited. About 10 minutes after we arrived a woman came in sat down and ordered. 30 minutes later she was done and we were still waiting . We asked our waiter what was the delay....time now 6:40...his response...I don't cook the food but you ordered your salmon well done and that takes time! We left without food 0stars"

  • "A friend and I arrived at 7:30pm on a Thursday night without a reservation. There were a # of open tables and seats at the bar. We asked the host if we could sit at a table to eat. After learning that we didn't have a reservation, he told us there were no tables available (very rudely I might add). We sat at the bar. I logged onto opentable and made a reservation for 8pm (reservations for 8/8:15/8:30 were all available). When he found out what I did - he very coyly said "oh, so you're smart?". He then proceeded to walk us past a # of open tables that were central to the dining area and sat us in the back side of the restaurant next to the emergency door & wait staff station. Too many great places in NYC. I won't be coming back."

  • "we are big fans of Anassa, we just had another amazing meal, salads, swordfish and steak were all cooked to perfection, the wine was terrific. not to mention the service and the way we were welcome to the restaurant as we walk-in. Roberto you are the best."

  • "Always a winner in every category! Anassa chips, fish, veggies, etc., etc. are great!"

  • "Really enjoyed dinner here but think it was 10-20% overpriced for the food, service, ambiance and "wow" factor. Service was slow - good if you're interested in a leisurely meal, bad if you're not!"

  • "Good food, good space! Not crowded like some NY restaurants..."

  • "There are not many great spots for a nicer lunch in the area, Anassa is great for that. Service is beyond terrible. Get ready to flag down your waiter for everything you need."

  • "One of the best restaurants I have ever ate in. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable."

  • "The food and service at Anassa was outstanding. I had to change the amount of guests in our party and our reservation time, twice on the same day and the hostess was extremely accomodating. I would recommend this restuarant for business groups and personal meals alike."

  • "very nice food -- excellent octopus -- at reasonable prices"

  • "had a great omelette cream cheese and lox should add fresh squeezed orange juice to the menu"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Great appetizers as small plates for sharing and tasting. The Anassa Chips (paper thin fried zucchini) are heavenly. The meatballs and fried calamari are succulent. Been there a few times and now ready to try the entrees. The place is hopping and young. Can be noisy but the good food, friendly service and ambiance make that easy to ignore."

  • "I've dined at Anassa numerous times, having tasted numerous apps and entrees... and my 2 favorite menu items are both appetizers: the grilled octopus and the Anassa chips. Both are delicious and the Anassa chips which are thinly sliced, fried zucchini and eggplant are extremely addictive. My one major peeve is that for $17 they should serve a larger portion of tzatziki with the Anassa chips. I mean we're talking about Greek yogurt, not caviar. The bread and spread served to the table is also very good quality. One other call out is the lobster moussaka."

  • "Restaurant was very good. Honored the reservation.Salads were small for the price. Entrees were better value."

  • "Great Service. Brunch food was good and reasonably priced, but portions were a bit small. Good coffee. Brunch cocktail, specifically the Bloody Mary not very good, especially for the price. "

  • "The food is always good here. The appetizers especially. "

  • "Everyone raved about their meals at my table. My lavraki was out of this world. DIdn't know fish could be so tasty!! Unfortunately, it was very hard to hear each other as there is nothing to absorb the sound. I suggest they look into this, bec. this is a fabulous place--perfect food and service."

  • "I have been to Anassa several times. Veggie chips is consistently one of the best starters around. They are thin, crisp, not doughy and not greasy. The Lavraki is also properly prepared, is not swimming in olive oil and has great seafood flavor. the staff is attentive and provide great service."

  • "The food was sensational -- from the appetizer, Greek Salad to the dessert - Chocolate molten lava cake!! The best part of the meal was the main course, the Saturday special, the lamb shank!! The entire meal was superb - I will be back!"

  • "It was our first time dining at the establishment. The food was excellent, fresh and simply grilled like greek fish is usually prepared. We ate early on a Friday night so there ware families with children which is not a problem for us. We will definitely return. I almost feel like there is no need to return to Astoria for good fish."
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "We shared delicious starters and then each had perfectly prepared whole fish, followed by fine desserts. A little pricey but worth it overall."
    Dined on 4/17/2014
  • "Tasty greek salad with ripe red tomatoes. Good lamb chops. Decent selection of wines by the glass and generous pours. Nice service. A bit too loud and tables a bit cramped when priced for a more comfortable experience. "

  • "... This would be a solid 4-star restaurant. I've had lunch here several times; the food is very good, and portions are large. The crab cake, Anassa chips, seafood salad and lamb salad have all been well-prepared and thoroughly satisfying, if a bit overpriced. However, the service is inconsistent, often inattentive, and once downright rude. Would it kill the host to smile, and the servers to pretend they're glad we're there?"

  • "Six of us celebrated 3 birthdays. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They expected us from an open table reservation and knew we were celebrating three events. Food was delicious and so were desserts. Excellent restaurant. Will go back."

  • "The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service was fine but the food was bland. We had several appetizers, fish entrees and the lobster moussaka. The desserts were good. This was my second time there. It has a nice seen and it's in a great location. Now if only they could get the food to be tasty."

  • "Much improved over the place that was here before. Food was good and service attentive. On nice evening was pleasant sitting there with windows open."

  • "I love this place. Well situated, very friendly service. They have a great cocktail menu, with the anassatini being My favorite. Good selection of foods Including fish, meat and vegetarian options. Only negative is the noise level."

  • "Since we live just a few doors away this restaurant has become the "go to" place for light dinners, and relaxation. Two of our party had had a late lunch so just ordered appetizers and the third person had a full meal of swordfish kebobs, salad. we all shared desert and wine. Another enjoyable experience at our neighborhood gem!"

  • "Crowded, possibly over-hyped, when we finally ate, we were pleasantly surprised by how fresh and tasty the food was. Too bad the service wasn't great - slow, inefficient and under-staffed, this restaurant has potential if it can hire more help and then train them to deliver!"
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "We found the quality of the food and service to be on a par with the best Greek restaurants in NY. Among the appetizers, the mussels and the grilled, stuffed calamari were noteworthy. Our guest loved her lobster moussaka. It is a bit pricey but we were not troubled because of the the outstanding quality of the food and service."

  • "I keep hoping that they would get to the standard of AVRA , their sister restaurant or Lithos my all time favorite Greek. Alas, they don't work hard enough at it . Even though, I come in through Open Table , I doubt that they check past records. The help broke some glass not far from us, splinters flying to our table, and not even an apology. They changed our water glasses. I would love for them to succeed, but they want to build revenues, without getting to know repeat customers. I have been here several times, and keep hoping, because I love Greek food. I will try again and hope that the learn to debone Lavraki. "Hope springs eternal". They are close to my office, which is their best attribute. They have to try harder."

  • "Excellent addition to the UES. Loved the octopus and the seafood entrees. Service was attentive without being overbearing."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "I really enjoy the food but even at 2:30 PM it is too noisy for two people to have a relaxed conversation. I wish something could be done about it because I love Greek food and this beats having to drive to Astoria to Kyklades"

  • "Anessa Tavern is a nice addition to the culinary desert that surrounds Bloomingdale's. An attentive staff, nicely prepared fish, abundant salads and sleek modern interior combine to make it a pleasant alternative to other places nearby. Our one complaint: the noise at 8:30 pm, prime dinner time, was deafening."
