A word from Anassa Taverna
This bi-level space is meant to evoke the Greek seashore, with warm weathered colors and decorative jewelry that's also for sale.

Menu includes Mediterranean classics as a Greek salad, grilled lamb chops and a swordfish kebab. There's a raw bar, and daily specials that might include veal stew or slow-cooked pork shoulder. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Good food and location across from Bloomingdales and Dylan's candy bar"

  • "We liked it but a bit noisy great waiter looked like a young Kevin Spacey great shrimp app and fabulous eggplant and zucchini chips spinach pie a little too fried almost like an egg roll. Great fresh fish. A good solid spot"

  • "The food was good but the service was a bit slow. We had to ask for bread several times before it came. The website says there is a price fixe but it doesn't say anywhere that the special price only applies to lunch on Monday through Friday (and on top of that, some items on the price fixe are extra fees, but you wouldn't know that unless you download the menu on your computer...it doesn't reveal the extra charge on the website itself). We picked this restaurant specifically because of the price fixe, so you can imagine our surprise when it turned out it wasn't available on Sunday for dinner! The rest of the menu was very pricey, so we would not have chosen this restaurant had they been more upfront about the price fixe on line."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with another couple. We had a great time. It was romantic, the DJ music was good for conversation. My Steak was great and his Branzino was very tasty; I think their wine list pair the menu so well, therefore i rate it 4 stars on everything. oh and the bathrooms were very clean too"

  • "I took my mom here for lunch during her visit into Manhattan and could not have been happier. The restaurant amazing. The atmosphere had a rustic European vibe, the food prepared perfectly, and the drinks were lovely. I had the stuffed grilled calamari, and octopus which was delicious. My mom had Saganaki and the warm seafood salad...brilliant flavor! The staff was kind and extremely attentive. I can't wait to return for another delicious meal."

  • "Food - excellent. Service - excellent. Ambience - excellent ( but a bit loud). Comfortable and pleasant surroundings. We love this restaurant. The fish is always perfection. Salads - fresh and delicious. Vegetables - also perfect. Just a great restaurant."

  • "The food is good; the service excellent. The prices are reasonable. But can only recommend if you are looking to dine in one of the noise st restaurants on earth. Street noise; customers talking and to add to it all a dj. Not a place to go to for any reason as spoiled by noise."

  • "Finally a delicious dinner, a vibrant restaurant and consistent service in this location! I have been here a dozen times and each time the fish is fresh and simply prepared. The most delicious appetizer is the zucchini and eggplant chips- so thin and very lightly fried . There is a nice buzz- busy but not so loud that you can't visit with friends. A winner all around! A true neighborhood gem!"

  • "we had an amazing dinner Saturday night, all appetizers and main courses were terrific, wine by the bottle was perfectly chilled, i have nothing negative to say about our experience, we definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu. I like the fact that everyone is treated the same way, i noticed the manager Roberto talking to the millionaire Mr Welch (he must be a regular here), then he came to our table and starting conversing about the notable wine list and the success of the restaurant, very well dressed and great personality too. we love this place!! thank you!!!"

  • "We have been to this restaurant several times. Being Greek we enjoy the cuisine. Our dinner last night was not good. The stuffed tomatoes and peppers were tasteless and the lobster moussaka was a creamy concoction. If and when we return we will stick to the appetizers only."

  • "Love the octopus and Anassa has very good fish dishes in general. The restaurant is invariably crowded and can be a little noisy, but given the good midtown location, friendly service and strong menu, it could not be otherwise."

  • "We went pre-movie. Had 3 appetisers and it was enough for 2 of us. Fried zucchini & eggplant dish is great."

  • "Nice place, host/hostess very nice. Service good, prices would lead one to believe far better service and food. Food is good, too expensive even for the 'hood. Felida prices the same and food is light years better as is service..."

  • "We went for lunch and they did not have available the regular menu so we left. We did not realize they only had the brunch menu. We go here often it is usually very good. We just have to remember do not go there on weekends before 4pm."

  • "Brought out-of-town guests. Food and service were great. Restaurant is trendy and and can get noisy; but upstairs room is quiet enough to allow for conversatiion. Have been here before and will definitely come again."

  • "Everything was good, but we waited to long for the waiter to take our order. They need to improve on the service. Otherwise the food is very good."

  • "After a morning of shopping at bloomingdales, which is conveniently across the street from Anassa Taverna, we had a really wonderful lunch at Anassa. There were 3 of us, and we ordered a whole bunch of appetizers, and each one was better than the next. They were all so delicious, and we enjoyed every last bite. The octopus, the meatballs, the spinach pie, the saganaki, the Greek salad, all excellent, and followed by a really nice bottle of white wine from santorini. The staff were on the ball, service was great, the maître' d very personable as well. Excellent Greek lunch! OPA!"

  • "I went to Anassa with my wife at 6:00 PM prior to a 7:30 movie. The restaurant did not appear to be busy and we advised our waiter that we were in a hurry so that we would not be late for the movie. He definitely appeared to be somewhere else. We ordered drinks and dinner as soon as we sat down. The drinks came....and we waited. About 10 minutes after we arrived a woman came in sat down and ordered. 30 minutes later she was done and we were still waiting . We asked our waiter what was the delay....time now 6:40...his response...I don't cook the food but you ordered your salmon well done and that takes time! We left without food 0stars"

  • "A friend and I arrived at 7:30pm on a Thursday night without a reservation. There were a # of open tables and seats at the bar. We asked the host if we could sit at a table to eat. After learning that we didn't have a reservation, he told us there were no tables available (very rudely I might add). We sat at the bar. I logged onto opentable and made a reservation for 8pm (reservations for 8/8:15/8:30 were all available). When he found out what I did - he very coyly said "oh, so you're smart?". He then proceeded to walk us past a # of open tables that were central to the dining area and sat us in the back side of the restaurant next to the emergency door & wait staff station. Too many great places in NYC. I won't be coming back."

  • "We went here for a client lunch and the food was great. My only word of warning, is that the food / service was quite slow. If you are in a hurry be sure to order as soon as you are seated."

  • "we are big fans of Anassa, we just had another amazing meal, salads, swordfish and steak were all cooked to perfection, the wine was terrific. not to mention the service and the way we were welcome to the restaurant as we walk-in. Roberto you are the best."

  • "Really enjoyed dinner here but think it was 10-20% overpriced for the food, service, ambiance and "wow" factor. Service was slow - good if you're interested in a leisurely meal, bad if you're not!"

  • "Always a winner in every category! Anassa chips, fish, veggies, etc., etc. are great!"

  • "Good food, good space! Not crowded like some NY restaurants..."

  • "There are not many great spots for a nicer lunch in the area, Anassa is great for that. Service is beyond terrible. Get ready to flag down your waiter for everything you need."

  • "One of the best restaurants I have ever ate in. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable."

  • "The food and service at Anassa was outstanding. I had to change the amount of guests in our party and our reservation time, twice on the same day and the hostess was extremely accomodating. I would recommend this restuarant for business groups and personal meals alike."

  • "very nice food -- excellent octopus -- at reasonable prices"

  • "Great appetizers as small plates for sharing and tasting. The Anassa Chips (paper thin fried zucchini) are heavenly. The meatballs and fried calamari are succulent. Been there a few times and now ready to try the entrees. The place is hopping and young. Can be noisy but the good food, friendly service and ambiance make that easy to ignore."

  • "had a great omelette cream cheese and lox should add fresh squeezed orange juice to the menu"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "I've dined at Anassa numerous times, having tasted numerous apps and entrees... and my 2 favorite menu items are both appetizers: the grilled octopus and the Anassa chips. Both are delicious and the Anassa chips which are thinly sliced, fried zucchini and eggplant are extremely addictive. My one major peeve is that for $17 they should serve a larger portion of tzatziki with the Anassa chips. I mean we're talking about Greek yogurt, not caviar. The bread and spread served to the table is also very good quality. One other call out is the lobster moussaka."
