Diner Reviews
  • "Love the quick burgers and sandwiches over lunch meetings. Fries are fantastic too. Need more low fat options though."

  • "We got to the restaurant quite early for the reservation, and enjoyed a couple of cocktails while we waited. The Liberty Bell is wonderful! Great window table with a view of City Hall in the setting sun. I had the foie gras appetizer, which with the date? Fig? jam was wonderful. Hubby enjoyed the diver scallops, and especially the accompanying little carrots, which were perfectly cooked. We both ordered the steak frites - we rarely order the same entree, but since the reviews were so good, we both wanted to try it. What a wonderful dish! Frites were hot and salted perfectly, meat properly cooked, sauces delicious... I want more right now! Also, the waiter made an excellent suggestion for a Shiraz that suited the meat well. A great night!"

  • "I took my boss to Amuse while we were both visiting Philadelphia. It was perfect for a good meal and conversation. Highly recommend !"

  • "This was our second visit (of what will be many). Everything was as we expected - food was great, service attentive but not overbearing. Creative menu selections."

  • "What a surprise to us, how much we liked this place being located in hotel. The location is great, you sit with a view of city hall and the evening lights in the view accents the view. We found easy parking right around the corner at $11. for evening. Hotel also has valet parking if your choice. Food was awesome! I had the perfectly prepared steak and my husband got fish which he raved about. They have full bar and wine list that was full. Service was outstanding, attentive and relaxing. If you want a delicious, casual evening in Philly, do stop by Amuse."

  • "This is a restaurant trying very hard to be French. Alas... the bad experience starts when you read the menu that has mistakes in French like "amusee" with has 2 "e" for nothing and an accent on the last "e" or with the main course menu called "plat du principal" instead of "plat principal". The waiter was very snobish and not attentive enough (my glass of water remained empty...). However, the hostess greeting the clients at the entrance was very nice and was frequently checking on me (she poured me some more water). The place was cozy with a nice fireplace but the food is average. The foie gras was not fresh, neither were the Brussels sprout. My duck breast came almost cold. And of course, it was not cheap. I will not return."

  • "This restaurant was convenient for brunch (we were at the hotel and our friends at another nearby). I found the menu limited and the food wasn't anything overly special. I'd go again for convenience only."

  • "The core of any restaurant being the kitchen, Amuse has what it takes to be a top Philly choice. Our only suggestion is that this grand high ceiling space (with angled views of City Hall) achieve better isolation from the lobby, It's an atmosphere that works fine for lunch, but a few strategically placed decorative screens would make this a cozier evening venue. So would tablecloths at night, but perhaps the cooler hard edge is the intent."

  • "Food was delicious. Atmosphere is always very cozy and romantic."

  • "We went for a date night. The restaurant is intimate well cared for and the service excellent. We had rake of lamb, and I can't tell you how amazing the flavors are with every bite. The evening was a success."

  • "We love this place. The food is great....and rich. Good coffee as well. Service who a smile, although slow at times."

  • "We arrived at Amuse in the Meridian earlier than our noon reservation but were seated immediately by our gracious hostess and had a good view of the bustle on Arch Street. Our server Eric was very quick and attentive. We ordered the quiche which was amazingly rich with bacon lardons perfectly matched to the gruyere cheese (quiche ala Suisse?) . My bride's chicken club was very large and on dijonnaise-spread toast and full of flavor ... we took half of it home! My steak frites were ordered "medium" and arrived medium and tender ... how often does that happen? Potatoes were not "crisp" although the prep method yielded great taste. A very good lunch; we like to think we are hard to impress but Amuse is a cut above with no pretension."

  • "My wife Donna and I dined there on Saturday evening. It was our second time. The bar has a great drinks menu and an adequate wine list. Great French quisine and the rack of lamb was phenomenal, I would highly recommend it Cooked to tempertaure and delicous. Fantastic evening at a great hotel. The place was hopping. Norm"

  • "A visit from New York for the Flower Show and a luncheon celebration of my friend's birthday led me to this upscale restaurant. We were greeted at the door and treated as we were admired royalty! The restaurant sparkled as the lighting adorned simple elegance of a fireplace warmed room. The tables were not too close together, and this arrangement kept conversations of others private. This was appreciated! We had the Cobb Salad. Delicious! The waiters kept our water and coffee cups full, which made us most happy. I highly recommend this restaurant. I love Amuse!"

  • "We just moved to Philadelphia and were hoping to find a nice, enjoyable, affordable restaurant that could become a "go-to" restaurant - we found exactly that at Amuse."
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "This was my first time dining at Amuse, and I enjoyed it. It is a medium-size room having an intimate feel with large windows and wood paneled walls, giving it a nice ambiance. The design of the entrance and dining room is eclectic with contemporary furniture in a tall-ceiling, classic environment. The hostess sat us on the east end of the dining room next to a working fireplace, which was a nice touch on a cold winter afternoon. Almost all tables were occupied when we first arrived, and the noise level was high, but not so high that we couldn't carry on a conversation. I had a small lunch of leek soup and a cob salad, both of which were good. The waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Incredibly wonderful wait staff and host added to the spectacular meal! The staff was very accommodating to some food requests. The table size was generous unlike other bistro settings which added to the comfort and warm feelings in this city setting. The Trumbauer history just added to the pleasure of our evening since our family grew up in a Trumbauer house in Mt. Airy. Food presentation was lovely and the use of vegetable pairings was delightful. We had a cocktail in the bar first which was great fun with a masterful barkeep. It was a great evening!"

  • "Excelent food and great service! The coktails are super - even if the receipe might be a bit different from what you know, the bartender knows what he is doing!!"

  • "Stopped by the other night, I saw they had lobster bouillabaisse so I had to try it out. They give you a nice amuse Bouche after your seated and order. They along brought us out a sampling of ice creams, a cute after dinner chocolate upon leaving. I thought this was a nice touch. The dining room it self is a bit small and weird service was good though."

  • "Uber modern decor, slightly snooty hostess and generally good food ...except for the desert which was beautiful to look at but surprisingly tasteless...and the tart crust was tough - it needed two hands on the fork to break through!...not what you expect from a French pastry....So to the steak - an excellent crust coupled with a luscious juicy interior was a winner and the duck breast was really delicious. I would go back for the entrees.....not for dessert which is a big part of why I would go to a french restaurant.....and as a real after thought..in such a highly styled place it is a bit hokey to serve the bread in a paper bag"

  • "I went to Amuse in January 2013 for reataurant week. It was a memorable meal. The food and service were wonderful. I can only assume they were having an off night because my recent experience was not quite what I expected. The pickled salad I ordered was ordinary, and the steak frites was cold when it came out. The desserts were also disappointing. I suppose the chocolate dessert was ok, but not exceptional. The fig and pear tart was just TOO sweet. I found myself scraping off the fruit and just eating the crust. All in all....not great. To be honest....the bread was the beat part."

  • "Enjoyed lunch here with my wife one Saturday afternoon just before Christmas. We just about had the room to ourselves, and what an elegant room it was with tall windows looking out on City Hall. Food was very good. Great date!"

  • "I took my best friend for a birthday dinner. We had appetizers and drinks at the bar beforehand, and it was all very good. Then we had dinner, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance was fabulous, the food was great, the portions were perfect, the service was excellent. We had a great evening out."

  • "had dinner with souse and friends as part of Philly restaurant week. within our group we sampled everything on the special menu. All items were very good. the large windows in the dining room give a spectacular view of illuminated City Hall. Will go back to try other regular menu items."

  • "The looks of this place isn't attractive, it is pretty old and needs some remodeling. The serving was also slow. But the food was outstanding, which compensates for all other meaningless formalities! I am a big foodie and this place serves the best French in town...Yes, I mean it, 100 times more gratifying than Bibou!!!"

  • "We went here with a Travelzoo coupon. It included one shared appetizer, 2 drinks and 2 dinners. Great deal! Food was excellent. Exceptional service. My wife mentioned that she didn't like the taste of her potatoes, and we received desert & coffees at no charge. Our waiter did everything to please us. We shall return."

  • "We ate here Friday night and Tuesday night. The steak frites and the lobster bouillabaise are superb. And with all the entrees priced under $30, how can you go wrong? Generous portions, you can easily forego an appetizer, although the sweetbreads are superb! A wonderful ambiance, architect Horace Trumbauer at his best with contemporary furniture, fixtures and lighting. It's a go-back place. Perfect spot for any reason."

  • "Very nice meal. My son had the steak frite. Hanger steak was very tender and perfectly cooked. I had lamb loin, also tender and well prepared. Service was very good."

  • "Appetizers, drinks, and meat dishes (short ribs, rib eye) were outstanding. Vegetables, side dishes not up to par however. Overall stilla very good experience. Rib eye and lobster bisque outstanding choices."

  • "Cobb salad was lovely, light and satisfying. I regretted not ordering dessert. Amuse bouche of tuna tartare was outstanding. Small dining room in a hotel near the convention center. So food quality was a very pleasant surprise."

  • "Normally I am leery of a hotel restaurants, but the hotel was so great and it was so cold outside we thought we would try Amuse. Our waiter was less than enthusiastic. The Steak and Frites, great! The chartreuse board, fantastic! Loved the atmosphere, but the empanadas were dry, the pasta was overcooked. So if it is too cold or rainy outside, and you don't want to walk a couple of blocks or get a cab, Amuse will get the job done."

  • "We use a travelzoo voucher for the bar ($50) and the restaurant ($59) on 12/27/13. We had drinks at the bar and two small plates. The food was excellent. After that, we had dinner which consisted of one appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 drinks. This was more that enough and the food was also very good. We would highly recommend that you try this restaurant if there is another travelzoo voucher in the future. It was well worth the money."
