A word from Amrheins
Amrheins has been a Boston tradition since 1890. For over a century, diners throughout the city of Boston have been welcomed into Amrheins to enjoy quality meals amongst friends and neighbors. Today that tradition continues in our updated facility. Despite the renovations in 2005, Amrheins is still full of history. Amrheins is the proud home of the oldest hand carved bar in America and still has the first Draft Beer pump in Boston on display. But what really makes Amrheins special is its dedication to quality cuisine and superior service. We hope that you join us again soon.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This neighborhood gem draws me mainly for its homey atmosphere. The friendliness of the wait staff, the well prepared "comfort" food all add to a simple and sweet experience here."

  • "First time there after commuting past it to my downtown Boston office for decades--big mistake---I will be stopping at Amrheins more often in the future---friendly warm atmosphere--had a great chicken parm meal for $15---Paul"

  • "Went there with a few of my friends to eat and as soon as I walked in I knew I'd like it there. They had some nice music playing in the background, neon green lights at the bar and a vibrant crowd. The food was good although the selection wasn't as much as I'd like it to be. The service was great as well and the waitress was very attentive. Great place to go with some friends for some drinks if you're ever in South Boston."

  • "I've never had a bad meal at Amrhein's! Many good lunch options. The turkey burger with sweet potato fries is DElicious! And you absolutely have to try the Coconut Bread Pudding. Yummy! My waitress as usual was super friendly and accomodating. My next lunch meeting will certainly be at Amrhein's."

  • "the food was outstanding! the waiter forgot to bring my wine until the entree arrived.....salad was brought with the entree rather than before....but the food itself...scrod was absolutely mouth watering! table next to us was very very loud! hard to talk."

  • "We've had dinner there many times, but this was a first for brunch. The food was hot and replenished frequently. The selection was extensive, so there were lots of choices for everyone. For the offerings, the price was very reasonable ($20). The desserts looked far better than they tasted. Items like cake were presliced as slivers, which is a good idea. Overall its a very good value and the food itself is good, The servers were very friendly, made sure we had what we needed and cleared the dirty plates at a regular rate. Make sure you bring your appetite."

  • "Dinner out with the girls and it was great. All six of us enjoyed our meals, which included short ribs (fab), haddock and scallops. One of my friends is lactose intolerant, asked the waiter a question about the menu and the chef came to our table and told her he would cook to order. Then he sent over the poutine because we had asked what it was when the waiter was delivering it to another table. I think each of us will be back with our husbands/sig others."

  • "Because of a baby shower the noise level was a bit high at first, but we were told that it was winding down, and could be moved if we wanted at any time. It did quiet down after about 15 minutes and was fine. The service and staff was really friendly and accommodating. Apps were unique, fun and tasty! All five meals were good but The seafood Alfredo was to die for where as the Veal parm a bit in the dry side. Overall a great meal and experience and we all would love to go back!,"

  • "We made reservations for four for brunch/lunch. The restaurant was filled with many large parties, but our reservation was available exactly on time. The restaurant goes back to 1890 or so; the decor is high tin ceilings; dark woods, booths, and tables, but the lighting and sight lines are very good. The brunch buffet was large, with many usual breakfast items [scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, French toast, bacon. You could have a fresh cooked omelet with your own preselected ingredients. There were also mussels, chicken wings, steak tips, ravioli, kielbasa, and a selection of desserts. Price was very reasonable. We were never rushed, and stayed more than two hours enjoying good food and company."

  • "Chef Richard Ansara is back and his culinary skills are again evident in the quality and presentation of the food. Lots of comfort foods and some with a twist that everyone will like. Enjoyed the eggplant tower as an appetizer, had lobster mac & cheese with lots of lobster & friend had veal milanese that was cooked perfectly. Some nice selections of wine by the glass. Server, Allison, was pleasant, knowledgeable about food & wine and made certain we were well taken care of. This is one of the restaurants in South Boston that has free parking lot next to the building. IAmhreins is my go-to place to dine with friends for all of these things. Will be back very soon."

  • "The brunch menu was just outstanding. There was a great blend of seafood, bbq ribs, omelettes, fruit (the bananas were amazing), loaded potatoes, and desserts. We had a party of 8 and even our little one enjoyed the spread. Will definitely continue to keep Amrheins on the top of our list (especially when we have faraway guests and want to show off what Boston has to offer!)"

  • "Nice variety of food on their brunch - includes both breakfast and lunch/dinner items. A large group with numerous small children that were allowed to run through the restaurant took away from the restaurant's ambiance; unfortunately we were seated right next to them. While the parents continually apologized, they did nothing to restrain their children from running around the entire time."

  • "I always choose Amrheins when getting together with friends who live on the north shore. The location is great, right off RT 93..I've been to Amrheins many times over the years. Whether Having a couple of drinks at the bar, dinner or brunch, the food is great and the atmosphere is really nice. You never feel rushed. I'm looking forward to seeing the place decorated for Christmas. The only drawback is parking. The brunch is very popular and the parking was tight. They do have a shuttle bus that will pick people up in south boston. It's a great service.,"

The quality of food is outstanding and the price is very reasonable. This is becoming a regular option for our family. We look forward to Sundays when we have a reservation at Amrheins."

  • "This restaurant was really quite wonderful. The service was very accommodating. The food was wonderful. The atmosphere was friendly, warm and completely enjoyable. There is a reason they have been feeding folks in Boston since 1890. Plan on an enjoyable evening. Another nice addition they have parking for the customers eliminating the hunt for parking."

  • "Outstanding clam chowder. We liked it much better than that LS Company's. Never had lobster mac and cheese before. It was full of lobster and excellent cheddar. I'd love to have their recipe. This was a homerun with us. I'd love to have their recipe."

  • "I hadn't been to Amrheins for quite some time so thought I would give it a try. The service is very good and everyone is really friendly and accommodating, and it seems to be a very popular place as it was a full house. My biggest complaint is that it was so dark in the bar eating area that I couldn't even read the menu, while the main dining room was too bright for me. So, no happy medium. For my taste, the food is just OK. However, if you like huge portions then you will like Amrheins a lot."

  • "Everything came swimming in butter. We requested swordfish with NO butter but it came With tons of it. We sent it back & ordered A burger with fries which was nothing special. Unfortunate as the waitstaff was cordial. Probably wouldn't make the trip there again soon From metro West."
