Diner Reviews
  • "With an open kitchen and a nice bar, Amore packs a lot of restaurant into a small corner of the East Ave. Wegman's store. "

  • "Food was overpriced and quantity small. Two of our group ordered lasagna. Pieces were very small and burnt on the bottom"

  • "Food is so fresh and flavorful. Our waiter was excellent. The manager also made the rounds to all tables and we had a very nice conversation with him."

  • "Perfection from the ribollita soup, the arugala salad, to the Cod. Good price, Well trained service."

  • "Our meal was ok. Risotto was undercooked and both our dishes were over salted. The table we had was looking into the area of the kitchen were they but the dirty dishes! Sorry, first impressions are lasting.Wine list could be expanded and moderate the prices!"

  • "We moved to Rochester less than 1 year ago and since I was born in Italy I have been trying to find a truly Italian restaurant. Amore is IT. They use truly original Italian ingredients and their dishes are cooked with original recipes. Their Pizzas are the one of the best truly Italian pizzas I have tasted in the US. Their crust is perfectly cooked. As soon as you sit down order the flat bread and just to have an understanding of how good their pizzas could be. Since they are attached to the grocery store you are guaranteed the freshest ingredients. Service is truly awesome. We are regulars now and they try to always accommodate us at "our table" If you are looking for the best tasting Italian food.. this is your spot !!"

  • "Appetizers were the best part of the meal. We had the Bruschetta and Carpaccio. The main courses of Halibut and Carbonara were nothing to write home about; I have actually had better tasting Carbonara at a local diner sadly. Anyways the food and drink took some time to come even though the restaurant was fairly empty on a Saturday night. Our waiter also forgot my soup. However, the restaurant does look pretty nice and the experience was finally saved with a pretty good desert of Tiramisu and Gelato."

  • "The four of us had dinner at Amore for the first time last Friday and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was great, had a Tuscan feel with the decorations, etc. The food was quite good. We got the arugula salad instead of escarole and that was a pleasant surprise. The dressing was light and the shaved parmessan topped it off to a tee. Our main courses were all great. The only thing I would suggest would be to season the olive oil that you serve with the bread (which we had to ask for). It was quite bitter so we asked for butter instead. Our waitress was very attentive."

  • "Although attached to a grocery store, this restaurant had great food and service. It was bright, not too cozy but everything tasted wonderful. I will definitely go back."

  • "We had a great time at Amore, really enjoyed and had a great server - Josh. We will definitely be back - we loved our pizzas. Thanks!"

  • "My husband & I did a spur-of-the-moment online reservation Friday night and were pleased to get in at 6:00. We arrived a few minutes before 6:00, only a short wait, and were seated upstairs. The ambivalence is rustic Italian with exposed beams. Pretty and not at all pretentious. A jazz band played in the bar, noise was on par with a Friday evening. The server was a younger gentlemen, very attentive and efficient. We ordered appetizers as our meal (which came out quickly); Calamari (yummy flash-fried lemon peel!), Meatballs, Rosemary Flatbread, Soup of the Day (white bean w/escarole...easily, one of the best soups I've ever had!!) & Tri-Color Salad. Everything was delicious and we left feeling well-fed! The only negative: loud open kitchen."

  • "I made a reservation - Saturday night. they were busy. It took five minutes before we were seated. The waitress knew we were in a hurry because of theatre date at 8 pm. We only wanted a small dinner because of a late lunch that we ate.. She was very helpful in telling us of the "small items" on the specials. We ordered soup and salads. Service was super fast. I would go again for a leisurely dinner sometime."

  • "We went for dinner and while the service was excellent, the atmosphere feels more like a lunch-time place. It was quite loud and the wooden chairs were not very comfortable. The bread was served cold with plain olive oil. The scallops were very tasty as was the lasagna so for that reason, I might go back. Because of the noise level, I wouldn't rush."

  • "Everything about Amore was up to my expectations. The food was incredible, the atmosphere is relaxing and warm, and if you are dining on the second floor, you can see all of the food being made. I've been to Amore twice in the past two weeks and I plan on coming back very soon."

  • "This restaurant is not what I expected, it was better! The prices were reasonable for the excellent quality of food. Although the menu selections were limited, additional foods were available upon request. keep in mind that this menu is seasonal which is probably among the most difficult to maintain in the restaurant industry. Is there anything that Wegmans touches that does not turn to gold?"

  • "Just moved in down the road and I took my parents here when they came to visit. Wegmans always impresses and everything was great compared to the low prices. Recommended for anybody."

  • "The tables are very close together so it was rather tight. We went early when it wasn't crowded but by the time we left it was getting louder & more crowded. Our service was excellent & it's very clear thy a lot of training is done on food/drink knowledge. Food & wine were both very good, however after a salad, entree and dessert, I was hungry an hour or so later. Portions could be bigger!"
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "Great service, excellent food, and beautiful atmosphere. Can't ask for more! Four drinks, appetizer, two meals, coffee and dessert - 65 dollars!! I would have paid $150 at a comparable restaurant."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "The "new" menu is spectacular, although I miss the cheese / meat board! The lasagna was like grandma's and if you've never had an olive oil cake, this is as good as anything I ever had in Italy. With the subdued lighting "upstairs," which greatly increases the ambience - it was like being in a cafeteria before, sorry - it is a perfect choice for an outstanding dinner in a leisurely atmosphere. Bellissimo!"

  • "We arrived early so a 7PM reservation so were able to partake in Happy Hour at the bar while we waited for a table. We were seated promptly near the open kitchen, which was a bit distracting but do not hamper conversation. It was nice to note that the chef / expediter always said "please" when calling for a food runner; the corporation employee standards seem to be evident. No Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen. Our server was friendly and made some good entree suggestions. She enplained that the menu was new and a salad (or pasta) came with the large dishes. We had scallops and veal saltimbocca, both which were excellent. Service was excellent and the staff functioned well as a team. We enjoyed dinner and will return."

  • "This was our 2nd time eating at Amore and last time we went I reviewed and said everything was great but wished the menu offered more choices so I was pleasantly surprised that they changed the menu. I guess the only disappointing thing was that last time my son and husband loved the antipasto platter because they got to pick their own meat and cheeses but this time they couldnt"

  • "Attentive (but not overbearing) service. DELICIOUS appetizers and food (don't miss the calamari app with lemon and the Fettucine with grilled chicken and lemon cream sauce). Very reasonably priced considering the quality of food, depth of wine list, and level of service. Went with four others and we all plan to go back again."

  • "There was not enough of a menu to select from I was forced into spaghetti and meatballs"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "I guess I expected it to be an exceptional experience, but the best I can say is it was OK. The food was good, but at $14 for a small linguine and clam sauce I thought it might be a great sauce. It was... OK. Likewise the atmosphere - bare light wood tables very close together, noisy, nice atmosphere ends about 12 feet from the floor - above that are ceiling girders. Not horrible, but I wouldn't hurry back"

  • "My husband and I enjoyed our dining experience at Amore. The feel of the restaurant was rustic "Old Country" with plenty of wood and exposed beams. The kitchen was open to the dining room, so you could see what was going on there. We orded the Prix Fixe menu. The appetizers were delicious. The beef carpaccio salad was delicious and the fried gnocchi were like little arancini bites. We both had the veal saltimbocca which was very tender. I also chose the wine pairings which complimented the meal very well. Our server was very attentive and seemed to want to make sure we had a good experience. Her service was outstanding. We would like to go again and order from the menu."

  • "I took my daughter and 9-year old grandson, visiting from Virginia, on a first-time visit to Amore and each one of us was totally satisfied with our dining experience. The food was superior, he service was excellent and, the atmosphere was great. While able to handle a large number of patrons the restaurant has the feeling of being much smaller and cozier due to the layout of the rooms. I recommend Amore to anyone who appreciates good food."

  • "The atmosphere is very inviting and the food is fantastic. We love the meat and cheese boards. The entrees are unique and something new. Our only "complaint" is that we typically go a little crazy with appetizers and can't finish our entrees since everything is so delicious. A bigger theme to us though is that eating at Wegmans restaurants as it is as much about learning about new foods as it is enjoying the meal. Well done!"

  • "My wife and I decided to try Amore after looking at their menu online. We shared two appetizers, the meatballs and fried Calamari, and split a pizza. Everything was delicious! The wine choices were not as abundant as we expected however the selections were interesting and in keeping with the Italian theme of the restaurant. We chose a Sangiovese which we thoroughly enjoyed. Prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. The only surprises were that the bread that was served to accompany our meal was not warm, which we thought was odd and it's a long haul to a bathrooms which are in the store itself. All-in-all it was a great experience and we'll go again and would have no difficulty recommending it."

  • "Overall food was good but remember your basically eating in a grocery store. Lost a little amience when having to walk through the food court to get to the restroom"

  • "No complaints at all regarding the food, service, atmosphere or the complete experience. But I just feel that it was just too pricy for what we got. For just my wife and I, and we didn't go crazy ordering a lot of different things, cost us just under $100 including the tip. They have a very good wine list and you can find what you like with beer. We each had 2 drinks of the lower end wine and beer. Only one appetizer and one salad before the entre, and no desert. I have had many dinners that we got a lot more for our money than we did at Amore. But certainly worth a try if you don't mind that."

  • "The atmosphere is... confused. There's a lot of things they do that suggest "fine dining" but it definitely falls short of that, and seems to be stuck in a never-never land of semi-casual and semi-formal. That said, though, the food is fantastic, and the menu strategy of offering multiple portion sizes for many entrees means that your group can experience a wide variety of food throughout the evening, without becoming uncomfortably full."

  • "You would not think that a restaurant located inside a grocery store would be romantic bit that is exactly what Amore Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar is. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We both ordered a glass of wine before ordering our dinner. The wine list was not as large as you would expect from a restaurant touting they are a wine bar but we both found something we liked from what was offered. For dinner my wife ordered the Mushroom Ravioli and I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. What's nice is there are two portion sizes to choose from. Both dishes were delicious. For dessert my wife had the three ice-cream scoop special. We both enjoyed the atmosphere and food and we both agree Amore is a winner!"
