Diner Reviews
  • "Very nice restaurant and we all three enjoyed very good lunches. I would definitely return to this establishment if I was looking for a venue near Grand Central"

  • "Very noisy lunch, but food and service is always excellent. "

  • "Ammos exceed expectations. We were blown away by the food. Fish was very fresh, simply cooked and appetizers were fantastic. We had the octopus, the Greek salad and baked feta. We shared the yogurt flan and the baklava for dessert. Wine recommendations was also on point. Overall a great experience. A little pricey for our pockets but worth every penny. "

  • "Took colleague out to lunch who had never dined here before. Waiter seemed very distracted, was sort of listening to our order while talking to bus boy. Then he asked my colleague what temperature he liked his chicken??? and I responded "cooked". Then we were delivered the wrong order. Otherwise, it was OK, food was OK as well, I order an octupus salad with minimal octupus present. Not sure if i'll return."

  • "Ammos is always a good choice for lunch. The food was fresh and the service crisp. It can be a bit noisey"

  • "Went at Ammos for my girlfriend birthday. Very pleasant place. The service was really good and the food reasonably price. After the waiter show us the fish options we choose the Fagri. fresh and delicious. This place was my girlfriend choice, but from now it will be my favorite restaurant in the city."

  • "Me and my friend couldn't help looking around this gorgeous well design restaurant. our server was keep coming asking us if we need any assistance because we were constantly looking around. Food and service were equally amazing. We will tell everyone about Ammos."

  • "Had a night out with friends, really enjoyed dinner at this place! It has nice vibe, service was exelent! They have octapus to die for! We all shared a bunch of small plates and wine. The place is great for a date night as well, Will be bringing my girlfriend there soon!"

  • "We had a great meal here. The pikilia selection of dips with pita bread was very good. We ordered an octopus appetizer, a whole dorade fish, and the arni youvetsi lamb dish. Everything was excellent. For a party of four we paid $200 includibg a very pleasant Assyrtiko wine. The ambience was very pleasant, with private tables. We woukd definitely go back."

  • "We were two and we came early to make certain we could hear ourselves talk. It didn't last long. Once again the tables are too close together and the accoustics loud. Food was basically good but crabcakes arrived cold. Waiters were attentive and service more than acceptable. Noise level when we left made us glad we were leaving."

  • "wE are regulars at Ammos. We made a reservation with my wife to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We started our meal with complementary Champagne. Our Waiter was very knowledgeable and polite. The food is outstanding as always. Thank you/"

  • "We had a wonderful meal before our show. We ordered from their three course, menu. Food was excellent. We will recommend this restaurant."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "I have had lunch here many times because of its convenience to grand central, but I must say that it would be worth going well out of the way for also. I woukd highly recommend one the fresh fish options. They are all great!"

  • "I have to say that I was a little disappointed with my experience at Ammos Estiatorio. I love Greek food and have been planning on dining at this restaurant for quite a while because of all the great reviews… Everything was good but that was nothing special about the place or the food to justify four or five stars and the prices on the menu. Perhaps I was disappoint because my expectations were so high."

  • "This is a good spot for good good in a classy but not stuffy environment. Location so close to GCT is a big plus. Main negative is that we felt Rushed numerous times. They are so concerned with turning over the Table that they kept asking to clear our dishes when we had not come Close to finishing our food. Avoid the sangria. $40 for a small pitcher and It wasn't even good."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "The food and ambiance was good, not great. However, the price was much higher than the food/ambiance deserved. I think it's location close to Grand Central attracts a lot of tourists, so they jack up the prices. You can do better, when it comes to quality and value."

  • "Ammos is my favorite Midtown restaurant. Always fresh fish, always friendly service. I can't wait for the weather to warm up to open their enormous windows. Bar scene always happening. Good place after work to meet beautiful and very interesting people."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "The Sardines appetizer was solid. The waiter convinced us to order the combination of spreads, however it was never served. instead they just brought out the main dish after the sardines. not even a "I am sorry" or "my fault". The waiter also suggested the white snapper. I was surprised at how large the piece was, and how expensive. The fish was $66, you would think that the waiter would make me aware of such a difference in price. I do not mind spending $$$ but I found the waiter's actions amusing. I dined at Ammos before and everything had been spot on. I was disappointed..."

  • "Whole fish grilled on the bone with olive oil. Excellent. Not fancy. Just plain good. As it should be. And don't forget the lemon potatoes."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Ammos Estiatorio post-theater on Saturday night. The food was very good, and the wait staff was exceedingly friendly. However, even though the restaurant accepted and confirmed our 10 PM reservation, it was in the process of closing (and packing up chairs) when we arrived. As soon as we were seated, the waiter informed us that the kitchen was about to close. They did make our dinner, which was quite good, but when it came time for dessert, the kitchen staff had left, so they were unable to prepare the specialty dessert that I wanted. If the restaurant was not prepared to serve us a full dinner plus dessert, they should not have taken our 10 PM reservation. It made the experience a bit uncomfortable."

  • "We went there for happy hour, but after few glasses of wine at the bar we desided to grab a bit to eat , the fish was delicious, totally understand why the waiters get so passioned about. I love it and I will be back"

  • "I have been wanting to try this type of cuisine recently so we went there for Restaurant Week and it was really good. The menu selection was vast and the portions were reasonably sized. The food was very good as well as the ambiance and service. For the price, the value was alright and would consider coming here again."

  • "Ammos is a wonderful Greek sanctuary in the middle of midtown NYC. The decor, the ambiance and the overall dining experience are superb! Don't miss this restaurant, definitely one of the top 5 Greek restaurants in the City."

  • "Ammos has become very popular last years. Always packed but management always finds ways to accommodate reservations with no further delays. We were surprised when we walked 20 minutes late and they still sat us right away. Food was delicious as always. Favorite dish, rack of lamb. Favorite wine, Avaton from the monastery of northern Greece."

  • "Their appetizers are even better than what I had at my last trip to Greece. Octopus, grlled calamari, Greek salad, spinach pie and the spreads were all delicious. We were too stuffed to order main course, but next time we will order their fish. Our waiter show us a fish display and explained us all kind of fish that was sitting in the ice. They all looked yummyyy and fresh."

  • "I chose Ammos Estiatorio because of the fresh fish and the excellent preparation. Attention to detail is always important to me. I was with a guest for lunch and when our food came out her's was grossly undercooked. I was truly embarrassed. I sat waiting for them to re-cook her food while mine got cold. It was awkward to say the least. If you are entertaining a client here, have a word with the server before you eat and save yourself some embarrassment. Overall, this place is just okay despite the prices."

  • "Excellent choice for lunch. A bit noisy, but worth it."
