  • "We made last minute,late dinner reservations; called at 8 pm and got a table at 8:45 on a Friday night. The servers, well informed. The food came out quickly and was AMAZING. Everything was bursting with flavor and you don't need volume when it's so good and you order various plates of appetizers and sides to share. The grilled scamorza with tomato marmalade and bread crumbs: perfection! Very nice menu selection and very inventive; not your typical Italian fare. I ordered the olive oil cake, a super moist yet crisp pound cake server with macerated strawberries, fresh whipped cream and black pepper, so different and wonderful. ALL fabulously prepared and SO tasty. Best cup of coffee I ever had, for certain. IF YOU ARE A FOODIE YOU MUST GO."

  • "We dined this past week at Amis and it was a wonderful experience. The food was sensational. We started with swordfish meatballs and the salumi plate which were delicious. We the shared two pasta dishes for entrees which were also excellent. To our surprise we were treated to a third pasta on the house! The wait staff was also very good. Even the cappuccino was top notch. We are fussy and highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I guess I should start by saying this place had been hyped up a lot for me. The meal started out very well -- the homemade salumi plate was to die for, the shared appetizers were incredibly scrumptious-- we we're excited for the entrees and they were honestly pretty disappointing. My tortelloni was very black-pepper heavy, and the sauce was cream-based, a fact not included in the waiter's description of the dish. Both of my friends were disappointed with their dishes as well. In addition, there were several service blunders. My friend specifically requested no cheese on his pasta, and it arrived late, and with cheese. Also, one of the appetizers was forgotten about. Neither mistake was unforgivable, but they weren't even acknowledged."

At these prices, you shouldn't have to ask one server fro bread, another for butter, and three separate ones for fresh ground pepper before you received it - introduced a bad taste to what would have been an excellent meal. The noise rating I'm allowed with this survey is "Energetic" - but it was incredibly noisy between the blaring background music and the crowd - too bad. And $20 for a glass of Knob Creek bourbon - seriously? Again, food was great. but sadly will not be back."

  • "I have visited Philly twice in the last 6 months. The first time I webt to Amis for brunch and it was wonderful. Started with the baked pecorino and enjoyed oxtail pappardelle. This time I went for dinner because of convenience. Oh my. Once again, had a very nice waiter. Both times the wait staff was very knowledgable about their menu, as they should be. The good was amazing. Fresh. Full of flavor! Also, had the baked pecorino again. If you go don't skip the baked pecorino! I say "go"! You will not be disappointed!!"

  • "I was glad I read some reviews before I went or I might not have known to order the ricotta and black pepper bruschetta, which was incredible. My husband's favorite was the swordfish meatballs. I had the bucatini with almond jalepeno pesto and as soon as I took a bite, I knew why the woman seated at the next table (who ordered the same thing) told her dinner companion the pasta was so good, she was thinking of marrying it."

  • "We dined at Amis as part of my wedding gift from my husband (Philly for 4th of July, Beyonce/Jay-Z concert, and dinner at Amis). There was a group of five, and not a single person was disappointed with the food. It was incredible. The "Beast of Amis" was yellow fin tuna so there was an antipasti, pasta, and entree course offered with that ingredient. The antipasti, a tuna crudo, was an impressive portion and expertly prepared and paired with perfectly complimentary ingredients. I chose a pasta that was featured on a television show I recently saw, and it lived up to the hype. I could go on and on about our experience at Amis. It was certainly everything I expected and then some."

  • "We have come many times to Amis and the food is always fantastic. This was another delicious meal. Each item is different and incredibly tasty. Way above and beyond. Good service each time too. We enjoy sitting at the chefs table so we can watch the food being prepared. Most pleasant and vibrant atmosphere too. Great for special occasions or just because."

  • "We had a great night with fantastic service and mostly terrific food. The swordfish meatballs w/ polenta are beyond description: creamy but firm, flavorful and poised upon cheesy polenta. The special duck ragu and cavatelli was extraordinarily yummy all the flavors blending into mouthful of gamey goodness on perfectly al dente homemade pasta. The mussel with a rendered pork lardons was bland. Mussels were perfectly cooked, guancanale flavorful and meltingly delicious but the broth was tasteless except when I bit into a jalapeño. Disappointing. The bucatini with almond pesto and jalapeño was also bland. The flavors never melded maybe because almonds aren't a particularly strong flavored nut. Couldn't compete w/cavatelli; seemed just okay."

  • "The restaurant was not crowded when we arrived around 6:00 PM but they tried to seat us in the section where the two-seat tables were close together. This was not necessary since there were two-seat tables available which were not crowed together. They reluctantly agreed to move us to table near the entrance which was not surrounded by other tables. From there the service and food were very good."

  • "The menu lends itself perfectly to a foodie fantasy. My dining companion and I ordered one item from each section and shared. This was perfect because we were able to sample a variety of items without over eating. My favorites were the baked pecorino, swordfish meatballs, tilefish entree and the salted butter semifinal dessert. Food overall was over salted but still very tasty. Skip the rabbit liver terrine - nothing to write home about. Absolutely save room for the salted butter semifinal - you could easily die happy in a bowl of it! Noise level was too high even before the restaurant was filled. Overall good experience and would consider going back with a larger group to compensate for noise issue"

  • "It was a pefect day to sit outside. The food is always creative and delicious but inside is dark, noisy and loud so a sidewalk table was a special treat. The waitress was friendly and knowledgable. We had mostly small plates. Sal’s old school meatballs with tomato potato and the pork ribs with rhubarb agrodolce are not to be missed. The octopus with potatoes and hot peppers was tasty but small and somewhat overpriced. Our only entre, which we shared, was tonnarelli “cacio e pepe” with pecorino and black pepper. Delicious and fairly light for pasta. All the deserts were delicious. The belgian style waffle with nutella, vanilla semifreddo and toasted hazelnuts was particularly wonderful."

  • "Our family decided to celebrate Father's Day with dinner at Amis. It was our first visit. Service was very attentive. Noise level was perfectly ok as we ate at an early hour and there other quiet families nearby. My husband and I both felt the food was good but not great. . My pork/tomato.fettuccine looked like it had been ladled on the plate by a school cafeteria and the most dominant flavor was creamy salt. My husband had some sort of rigatoni dish that he also thought was fair, not great. The swordfish meatballs, a small plate, were very tasty but again the dish looked grey. Too many other places to try. I think we won't go back anytime soon."

Should you go starting with Classic warm egg salad and/or Bufala Ricotta with Hazelnut Honey. A second of pancakes is a delicious option. Finish with Olive Oil Cake or Tiramisu will not disappoint."

  • "A friend recommended this restaurant. The noise level was so unbelievably loud that we couldn't hold a conversation at all. Service was excellent, if a bit patronizing. However, the food was very average at best, and both entrees --- rigatoni and a guinea-hen-with-pasta plate --- were positively OVERLOADED with salt. One appetizer, a broiled pecorino cheese with honey and nuts, was quite tasty. The meatball appetizer was deemed okay by one diner; the other didn't like the spices used in the meatball or the sauce. And another appetizer tasted like nothing more than a whipped cream cheese spread, with very little flavor at all. Portions are generous. There are so many good restaurants in the city that we probably won't return."

  • "I've been to Amis several times and have always enjoyed the food. In fact, I was about to anoint this restaurant as my new favorite place. And then I realized what was stopping me: I hate how they hurry the experience. The server hovers, they removed the dishes way too soon and the general feel is that they want to turn the table way too fast. Given that this is not a fast food restaurant with fast food prices, I don't appreciate that rushed feeling. And that's why I won't be rushing back to Amis anytime soon."

  • "The food here is very creative. There are lots of options for small plates and trying multiple things on the menu. We had a pulled pork pasta special which was amazing. The pork chop was the best we ever had and the cod was also excellent. The salted carmel sundae was incredible. We can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu."

  • "Our dinner at Amis this evening was the loudest dining experience I've had in a long time. A combination of hard surface floors, walls and ceiling and tightly packed uncomfortably close seating made this date night an acoustical nightmare. We could hardly hear each other because it was so loud. Our service this evening was very slow, presumably because it was quite busy & our waiter had a huge section of tables to service. He did well though! He was friendly, informative & working as quickly as he could. It seemed the support staff were not helping him very much as our used dishes piled up until the end of the meal when someone finally whisked them away. The meal was delicious & exceeded our expectations. We will be back."
