AmisAmour Amis!!Dinner at 6 brought out many families with children...the noise level was from many folks, close together, having a wonderful eating experience. I'm gluten free and out came the special menu. Seating at a bar for 6 and you can watch food preparation. Incredible appetizer for 2 (Burrata cheese with mint and zucchini..bought some today!). Lamb was a little tough but cooked to perfection. Delicious desserts and coffee. Will definitely return...perfect location for Kimmel Center, Academy of Music, Merriam..just a few blocks walk or they have Valet Parking.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, a little too fastLovely and lively restaurant scene. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was amazing (swordfish meatballs -- yes, you must try them!). The only (minor) drawback was that all of our food (mostly small plates) came out in two big waves instead of in a more staggered way that would have enabled us to enjoy the food a little more. Overall, it was a great experience. When I go again, I would order a few plates, enjoy them, then order a few more.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTop Chef, Top ServiceA group of 5 ladies had a dinner there recently after a few cancelled reservations, and we'll remember it for a long time. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated like absolute royalty. Many of the Amis professionals - including Marc Vetri himself - introduced themselves and apologized for the trouble with previous reservations. The service was excellent as was the food (papardelle with duck ragu, the swordfish meatballs and the buccatini with jalapenos were all stand outs). Above all, we'll remember the feeling of being welcomed into Amis like we were family meeting for the first time. It really was a special night. With gratitude and appreciation, I highly recommend Amis!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMToo LoudAwesome place for a nice dinner but perhaps a bit too loud.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDining with friendsThe menu featured dishes I had not heard of but thr meal I ordered was a special for the night and it was delicious and the potion just right. The maitre'd brought us a sample of the house winr to try befor we ordered it and we really appreciated the fine touch.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat drinks and beer selection! The food was obviously amazing. I would recommend 3 starters plattes, a main, and a side for two people. That'll keep you full and if you want to stuff yourself, dessert is waiting. If you are a hearty eater (I am, but my guest was not), I might recommend one more main dish. Everything was great!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!I loved the look and feel of the interior of the restaurant. I walk by every day on my way to/from work and think about hwom uch I would love to dine here. I finally got to go. I went there with my parents and we split 4 appetizers and 2 entrees. Sal's old school meatballs and the baked pecorino were absolutely delicious. The bufalo riccotta bruschetta, however, was bland and really not anything I would recommend or order again. The only real complaint I have is that our server was not engaging. He did not tell us his name, he had trouble reciting the specials, spoke very quietly, and did not respond to our questions for direction/recommendations on ordering.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFun small plates, lively flavors,Fun small plates, lively flavors, inviting specials, and food-friendly wines. Service is knowledgable but friendly.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried "The Beast" 3 waysWe tried "The Beast" 3 ways - excellent! We love to sit at the bar and watch the kitchen in action. The menu is creative and consistently delicious. We'll definitely keep Amis on our short list of Philly favorites.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat an incredible mealWe had five small plates, including the pork liver bruschetta, which was to die for. The whipped fava bean bruschetta was great, too.
The caci pepi pasta was better than mine :-). Service from Maris was perfect.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing FoodThe good, service, and ambiance were all perfect!! Try Sals meatballs they are the best. Rich Flavors and mouthwatering bites. Had wonderful experience5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMUnexpected PleasuresSwordfish meatballs?
Grilled veal tongue?
If you are looking for something other than roast chicken and broiled farm raised salmon this is the place! Taste combinations that actually work. Very responsive wait staff. Good lively atmosphere.
Definitely go back!
Oh! And when we told the waiter we'd brought wine (corkage fee) he was ready to open it immediately, not wait us sit around looking for him to return.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual Amis was wonderful! As usual Amis was wonderful! My friend and I were celebrating her 30th birthday on Tuesday night-which was her first time to the restaurant. Over all 10 restaurant options I gave her-she chose you and we're both really happy she did. Aside from the pasta special with the pork jowl being over salted, everything else we ordered was a home run! The manager and server also sent out the dessert special for her b-day which to any table of two women is the best thing you can ever do so, we'll be seeing you soon. Thanks for a memorable night for my friend's birthday!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been to Amis four timesI have been to Amis four times now, and every time I remember why I come back. The food is fresh and delicious, and using simple, whole ingredients to make dishes is what sets it apart from the rest. The fresh pasta melts in your mouth, and every dish is perfectly seasoned and flavored. A true gem.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVetri does it again! What can be said, it is a Vetri restaurant. The food was amazing, honestly, every course was a delight and experience. I would highly recommend asking the server to take care of ordering the meal. This was our approach to the meal, and it was great. Really allowed us to enjoy each other, and be surprised too.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe 4 of us were impressedThe 4 of us were impressed with the food:3 small plates (lamb, aracini, swordfish balls), one pasta dish. Our server was attentive, patient about describing the dishes, and eager to help. The food came quickly, and there was no problem in getting to the Kimmel. Our only complaint was the noise level: unacceptable because we could not hear each other across our small table. Some of the noise was due to a a large and noisy family group trying to converse from one end of their table to the other. The restaurant is not entirely to blame for the insensitivity of its patrons; however, the noise level was quite high when that table of 10 was empty. We will try again but think that 6 on a Thurs may be one of the quieter times.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Vetri GemThe food was incredible. The many small plate offerings made sharing a delight. We were able to change our table for 4 to the counter along the kitchen line and, although the kitchen was quite busy, the chefs would still answer a quick question and interact. Is definitely my new favorite place. Can get a bit loud.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly Regret: Not Coming Here SoonerAfter being featured in Bourdain's No Reservations, reservations are a must. Amis is in demand--with good reason!
After living in the Washington Square West neighborhood for two years I finally made it to Amis. My only regret is not coming here sooner. Everything, down to the Foccacia bread, is delicious. The house wine carafe is a great deal and my favorite dish was the octopus with chickpea.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic.Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. The swordfish meatballs, burrata, spinach pasta with lamb ragu and sbrinola and spring marmalade tart with salted butter semifrefo were all amazing! The sweetbreads and stripsteak weren't as mindblowing, but were still pretty good. The service was great as well. All in all, a great dining experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of many delicious visitsOnce again dinner was excellent. Food, service ambiance all very good. We have been guest at AMIS many times now and never had a menu item we didn't enjoy. The food and service is consistenty outatanding. Menu additions are always a nice surprise as on this visit it was a Salmon Antipasti special. Staff know the food well and all are able to provide great assistance with ordering. Get the rice pudding or the Tiramisu which may not be on the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!Homemade salami and cured meats were amazing!! All locally sourced produce so fresh, seasonal and tasty.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed the food & the serviceEnjoyed the food & the service was spot on. It does get noisy, not a soft surface in the entire room, so be so advised.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFive Stars from a Picky ChefI took my wife here for her birthday and it was a wonderful experience. My wife is a chef herself and so, very very picky about where and what she eats. She LOVED Amis. From start to finish she was smiling and oohing and ahhing. Excellent service, excellent food, comfortable ambiance. Thank you!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFun spot! We started withFun spot! We started with a wonderful imported bufala ricotta and black pepper bruschetta (highly recommend) and a series of server-recommended small plates, most of which were quite good. Between the small plates and the pastas/secundis everyone agreed the dishes were rather well-done classics, often with unique twists. The only things I'd pass on next time are the brussel sprouts, which seemed expected, and the cookie plate with vanilla semifreddo affogato -- the cookies were rather plain and dry. There was a lively atmosphere, and space is tight, but our group of four was comfortable.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food; fresh and inventive,Great food; fresh and inventive, yet steeped in tradition! Service was spectacular!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLamb shank was great. theLamb shank was great. the breads were fantastic and OMG the lobster meatballs were the bomb! Our waiter was great and very friendly. To top it off the olive oil torta was fantastic!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThey have some of the bestThey have some of the best homemade pasta I've ever eaten. The wines are excellent and the tiramisu is incredible. For the quality of the food and service, the prices are reasonable.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food & Service - will be backGreat food all around. The cured meats are terrific. Service was outstanding as they gave us an extra app when the first one was running late. Also got a free desert as we planned to split one but they brought us both anyway! The place does get loud and has fairly loud music playing as well but it was packed. Book early.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodGreat food, big portions. Go with friends. There is a lot to share.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter many visits it neverAfter many visits it never ceases to amaze us how consistent and excellent the food and service is. The special Short Rib over mashed was just delicious. Our concern is to resist over ordering because everthing is just so good. Can't wait to return.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Favorite in PhiladelphiaAmis is our favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. The food and service are always top notch, and we love the atmosphere. There were four of us on this visit, and everyone loved their meals. Try the mortadella mousse and the swordfish meatballs; you won't be sorry. Our lamb shank and grouper entrees were also hits, and the the chestnut fettucine with duck ragu was excellent. We'll be back!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome food and service.awesome food and service. Would totally and whole-heartedly recommend.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLove, love, love Amis! AlwaysLove, love, love Amis! Always fantastic food. The tables can be a little crowded when lots of people but then we always sit at the bar, which is very appealing in of itself. Another one of our favorite restaurants!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmis for foodie friendsFantastic for couples who love food to share wonderful dishes in an atmosphere that engenders conversation.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food and service.Outstanding food and service. This was our second visit when in Philadelphia and it did not disappoint. Only blemish is the noise level. Even shouting across a small table my wife and I could not communicate. But that's the way the younger crowd seems to want it. A shame!
Nevertheless we would go again and save the communication for later.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Spence has the kitchenChef Spence has the kitchen rockin with one amazing
Dish after another complimented by world-class service
Led by GM, Martin. You cannot go wrong.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSpring menuReviewing the menu as of 3/21/2013 - try the bufala ricotta and pork appetizers, and do not miss the cobia entree! Specials on this particular evening involved striped bass and were wonderful.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTop NotchVery impressive and creative menu. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and competent. We will definitely return.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the hypeThis is a very attractive restaurant. The service was very good with a friendly, and warm atmosphere. On apps. we had shrimp and the meatballs. The shrimp was good, not great but the meatballs were outstanding. A couple of pasta dishes and Lamb shank. The pasta dishes were original and good, but the lamb shank was outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a modern take on pasta and an enjoyable ambiance.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe baked pecorino with almondThe baked pecorino with almond honey was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Our other appetizers were great too. My chestnut pasta dish with duck ragu was really just so-so, which is why I can't give the food a five. My husband loved his rigatoni. I would come back to try brunch based on the quality of the appetizers.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second time at Amis. Our second time at Amis. First was 2 years ago. Not much has changed - ambience/decor, fine service, and menu (which is good or bad depending on your perspective). For us, it was a good thing as we were able to try appetizers and entrees that we could not the last time. The veal tongue and swordfish meatballs were a hit; the chicken liver bruschetta was a bit much. For the main courses, we loved the oxtail cannelloni and ribeye involtini. The chestnut fettucini with duck ragu had a very unique taste is is worth the try. Definitely worth another return. Note that Amis is a short walk from the Kimmel Center so definitely a place to go before or after a performance.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive menu and good additionInventive menu and good addition to Marc Vetri's group.
Not too noisy on a Sunday night, but watch out for the other nights.

Parking is a bit of a problem, but they do have Valet Parking for $18.00.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dinner and wonderfulFantastic dinner and wonderful service. Best meal I've had in a while. Can't wait to come back!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were terrific,Food and service were terrific, but the noise.....! Couldn't hear my guests across the table.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place in the gayborhoodNice place in the gayborhood for a couple's or friends' night out. Food is very good, although the chicken leg saltimbocca was too salty (and I love salt). The swordfish meatballs were great as was the pasta with pork shoulder. We also ordered the kale side. I wish they had more salad and greens options. Cocktails were good, too!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
