The noise level was so extreme that it made for a less than relaxing or enjoyable evening. I had to lean half-way across the table to hear my husband, we both had to almost yell to hear each other, and the waiter had also to practically yell for us to hear him. For us, a meal means not just good food, but also good conversation, and that was not possible. Otherwise, reasonably good food, although we have had better. Insipid bread; not certain whether the squid were really squid: there was an off-putting slightly offal-like smell when the dish arrived. On the other hand, once we started eating it, we could not tell about the smell, and the dish was very tasty. Fried cauliflower was oversalted; chicken was good. A+ service!

Don't miss Amis! The atmosphere, the food, and the service is impeccable. We shared the brussels, pork chop, jalapeno pasta, and the pecorino cheese. All was delicious. We had a couple of hiccups during the meal and there were handled magnificently. I have no complaints for suggestsion for Amis. They know how to treat their patrons. Oh, and don't miss the Tiramisu if they have it. You may need to ask for it.

The small plate concept works exceedingly well here. The mozzarella bruscetta is fabulous and so creamy on the lightly toasted bread served with it. Sweetbreads, for those who eat such things, were tender and tasty without being overly salty. Swordfish meatballs, sounding very odd, were absolutely delicious with a very unique and subtle fish taste. Dessert was the hit of the evening with a tartuffo type creamy gelatto confection that took 2 of us to eat most happily. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We will be back again soon, but never on a weekend. We were there mid-week, and the noise level was barely tolerable. Weekends are over the top noise level wise.

  • Good food, odd layout

The food is very good, and the house wine is good enough, so that getting the carafe for 2 people offers good value. You must try the polenta and swordfish meatballs. The entree I got was a rigatoni with some pork which I found gamey. The only problem was the layout. The 2 person tables are a bit long, but placed elbow-to-elbow, so you will likely be closer to the person next you than the person you came with. This makes it hard to have a conversation. I would come again, but maybe during an "off peak" time, if there is one.

Amis never disappoints. Marc Vetri is without a doubt the best chef in Phila. by a long shot. The menu is so varied, interesting, and delicious. The service is warm and impeccable. The tiramisu is a dream! My only complaint is that some of the food is much too salty. I had the papardelle with pork ragu special. I loved it except for the heavy use of salt. I have noticed this problem before at Amis and hope they correct it.

This place was as good as everyone said and better! I think that this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in Philadelphia. Apps were delicious (Squid, Meatballs, Fried Cauliflower). Entrees were Salmon dish that was a special and pork chops, both were great. Last but not least, the tiramisu was fantastic. Overall a really good find.

We were kept waiting at Amis for a half hour because the party in our table was not leaving after paying their bill. They finally left and the manager immediately sent over three crostini on the house to make up for it, which helped a lot. I'm a vegan and mentioned that when making the reservation and they quickly pointed out everything I could eat (lots of options). I loved the eggplant caponata and the pasta with jalapeño almond pesto and poblanos is one of the best things I've eaten in Philadelphia. The side orders of brussels sprouts and cauliflower don't disappoint. Come to Amis prepared to wait and speak up (it's so loud) but you will eat like a roman emperor.

Food was great, but there are plenty of Philly restaurants that can put together the full package. + Hostess - incredibly unprofessional; chatted on the phone for a couple of minutes rather than seating us and had an incredibly rude tone when she did decide to engage us; bad start to the meal right from the beginning and was again pretty rude on our way out the door + Kitchen - pasta was under-cooked twice, but everything was very tasty + Service - enthusiastic but underwhelming; side dishes never showed up Meal was very good, but I don't think we'll be going back.

I had heard about Amis on the travel channel and wanted to try it out. I frequent Philly for work and I am always looking for a new spot. Amis did not dissapoint. I went alone since I was in town for work, and I sat at the bar. The bartender that evening was Michelle, and she was fantastic. I am always looking for a Vesper martini, and she made a phenomenal one. I had the classic cacio e' pepe for my meal and it was lovely. The wine Michelle recommended was also amazing. Pricier, but I say it is worth it when the food is that good.

Amis is one of the best and most consistent restaurants in Philadelphia. Brad Spence and Ned Maddock crank out delicious food on a consistent basis. While we didnt love the two bottles of wine we had, the cocktails and beer selection here is fantastic. Every bite of food was phenomenal. The stractitella was amazing to start. We loved the cacio e pepe and bucatini with jalapeno as well as the lamb shoulder and squid. Olive oil cake and stone fruit cobbler for dessert and a delicious espresso, a really fantastic meal and experience as always.

Everything at our dinner was fantastic. We had the baked pecorino with almonds and honey to start, with the straciatella crostini. The later came with delicious heirloom tomatoes and the most delicious fresh ricotta I have ever had. The pasta was excellent, seved with a veal bolognese that was delicious. We finished with a delicious stone fruit cobbler. Our server was great, friendly and with great suggestions. The only quibble I had was the noise level--too loud. Overall, one of the best meals I have had in philadelphia (I have lived here for 20 years.

Food was brought in a timely manner and was excellent.Swordfish meatballs were great. Eggplant appetizer was also top shelf. My wife had Scallops which were perfect and I had the braised veal which was a little salty for me. Wish I had the Pork Chop which looked great. Dessert was Belgian Waffle , wonderful and finished off a great dining experience.

The appetizers we ordered were the veal tartare (amazing), the cockles with corn and chorizo (great), the swordfish meatballs on polenta (super awesome and interesting), the pork belly with stone fruit (very nice contrast in flavors), and the baked pecorino with almond honey. For entrees the tonnarelli "cacio e pepe" with pecorino and black pepper. We also ordered 2 orders of the lamb shoulder with potatoes and also a pork chop cooked medium rare. The lamb was unreal, they roast the shoulder after brining it then shred it then make a nice steak and throw it on the flat top to get it hot again and crisp up the outside, just super enjoyable to eat. The pork chop was at least an inch thick and cooked medium rare.

La vita è buona. We hadn't been back in too long & were very pleased to have been remembered anyway. Sunday dinner at Amis is how we put off dealing with Monday - we just focus on the experience. Order course by course & savor the presentation, aromas, taste & feel of each bite. Squid w/ potatoes & hot peppers...oooh! 3 great pecorinos (hard, soft, in-between)...yes! Sweetbreads w/almond dust & fennel marmalade...incredible! Brussels sprouts w/lemon, fresh corn & Jersey tomatoes - farm to table's not a fad, it's just what's for dinner. With what may be the best house wines in town and just one more course (pasta), it was another superb evening at Amis (always is). This is simply great stuff, inizio a fine! I gotta learn to speak Italian.
