Diner Reviews
  • "With so many choices in our immediate (Bethesda) area, we do not dine often at the same restaurant. We continually try new places, and some we do not come back to. But there are a few places we put on our "A" list and return to several times a year. Amici Miei is on that list. It's spacious, the service is old-style professional with a touch of Italian sass, and it's QUIET. That's important when you are more interested in your dining companion than hearing what's going on across the room. The food is very good, from pizza to more sophisticated dishes, and a guy raised on New Jersey Italian restaurants finds it authentic all the way. We ate there the other night, and it stays on our "A" list."

  • "We went to Amici Miei on a Friday night hoping for a special dinner to celebrate my mother's birthday. At the last minute, we found that the grandchildren (ages 5-15) might be able to join us, too. Amici Miei was both able to accommodate the increase in the group, but also had kid-friendly fare. They also seated us in a section where we didn't feel shunted off, but where we didn't have to worry too much about bothering other diners. The food and wine offerings for the adults in the group were quite delicious - good combinations of unusual sauces and vegetables with the main courses. The salmon was perfect. Pizza that the kids had looked great, too. The service was wonderful - so patient and friendly despite our somewhat chaotic group."

  • "Noise level just right for an older crowd. Food was very good and good variety."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants that is on past with those in DC. Delicious, authentic food in a lively but elegant setting with gracious service. Highly recommend!"

  • "We went to Amici Miei with high expectations, as we were seeking another nice local restaurant. We were unimpressed. The food was mediocre, and that was the best part of the experience. Other than the host, the wait staff was not particularly friendly. The ambience was rather glum. We won't be going back."

  • "Stick with the basic pastas and sauces and you will be impressed. Anything else will be a disappointment. Really disappointed in the quality of the olive oil provided with the bread."

  • "The wine and desert were excellent. Main dish and salad were not outstanding."

  • "Nice, friendly, warm restaurant. Always very welcoming."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a friend who really liked it. We were disappointed. We found it overpriced and the food only fair. The salads were expensive so we expected more. They were average in size, not worth the price. Our table ordered eggplant Parmesan and veal dishes. None of us felt our food was more than fair. The service was excellent, waiter and staff were all very nice."

  • "But they aren't usually as luck as the folks who live in this corner of Rockville/Potomac. The two Italian partners have established themselves as host and chef of a creative, consistent neighborhood restaurant that delights in showing off all that Italy has to offer."

  • "Veal scallopini was excellent, perfectly cooked and the Branzino as always was great. This time we tried the octopus. It too was excellent, not chewy ! We found out it was fresh from Italy, yum."

  • "Menu is original. Pasta is great. Service is friendly, but professional. It is my go-to place for celebrations."

  • "I had a lovely birthday dinner and I will definitely be back again. I particularly enjoyed trhe wild board sausage with polenta and the option to choose gluten free pasta, which was very tasty. Grazie!"

  • "You cannot have a better dining experience. Very relaxed atmosphere. Non stop table service all night. We were celebrating a birthday which I noted at the time of reservation and after the check arrived the server told us not to leave as the owner wanted to send us a drink on the house. Turned out it was to celebrate the birthday. All and all, I will be returning here. Pricing was just perfect, food was amazing. Save room for dessert, and try the risotto balls for an appetizer"

  • "Amici Miei's food is consistently terrific and the service friendly but not overbearing (for example, the staff does not come over 10 times to ask you how the food is, the way they do in other restaurants). Even their basket of bread is delicious!"

  • "A hidden gem, but a long-time favorite for good quality Italian food. Veal, fish dishes are top notch."

  • "I always enjoy Amici Miei. We went with good friends, had a pleasant meal and a good bottle of red wine. I plan to go again very soon."

  • "When I spend 200 for 4 adults and one child I expect something more then Fridays. The food took too long , and it was ok, the server was hassled and we sensed it. It was not a good experience"

  • "A day after the snowstorm, we had a 1pm lunch reservation to celebrate VDay. We arrived to an empty restaurant except for a table of 8 young women enjoying themselves. My wife started w/flute of flat Prosecco which was exchanged easily for a glass of red. We shared a nice beef carpaccio app and then ordered grilled trout and veal scallopine for lunch. The trout was exceptional w/Brussels sprouts and roasted potatoes. My veal w/roast potatoes and sautéed spinach was tender and tasty but did require some additional seasoning. We ended w/espressos to top off a very enjoyable VDay lunch. Our waiter Louis was top notch for service and ensuring my wife had a gluten free experience."

  • "After unsuccessful attempts over the course of 10 days prior to the date to procure a table for two for Valentine's Day dinner, I remembered dining at Amici Miei some years ago. Six days before the date, I made an open table reservation and got a reservation, and I am so glad I did. The entire evening at this restaurant was worth the drive from Alexandria, through traffic-clogged roadways. Service was very good and our meal, accompanying wine and dessert were outstanding, making a perfect Valentine's Day evening. I look forward to future visits to this fine restaurant ."

  • "I took my wife here for Valentine's Day. From the moment we walked in, the hosts were very attentive. When I told them we had reservations, they made sure to seat us immediately, and before any walk ins. The service was great from start to finish. The menu was very extensive, we didn't know what to have first. The food was fantastic, with good size portions. We left having a great experience and will definitely go back and bring some friends!"

  • "Overall our dining experience was very good; however, our waiter displayed a "rushed" behavior that approached being curt at times."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The normally good Italian cuisine seemed to be down-sized in portions served. The specials were seriously over-priced for only modest innovation and quality. As on most holidays, the restaurant was overly filled to the point of the noise drowning out any attempts at conversations across the table."

  • "We were 4 women wanting to get together to talk and catch-up. We could not have chosen a better place for the surroundings, ease of parking, service and we all loved what we order -- plus the price was right. I am so grateful to my friend who told us about it -- this was probably my 4 th time there since Sept."

  • "Our waiter, I believe his name was Bill, was very good and really entertaining. The food was pretty well done and well presented although my wife felt that her sole fillet lacked taste. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening and given that they are very close to where we live, we'll likely keep them on our regular circuit."

  • "Not only did the waiter seem distracted and indifferent to us, he was very slow to return to ask if we'd like to order anything else or to refill drink glasses. The quality of the calamari/shrimp appetizer was sub-par, actually rubbery. The pizza dough tasted bland, the mushrooms tasted like they came right out of a can and were undercooked. Overall, the quality of the food was most disappointing. I will not be back to dine there."

  • "The service is always great and Davide is always warm and welcoming. The lasagna is the best anywhere; so light and fluffy. The lamb shank with saffron and artichoke special was superb! This is our go to place that we always go back to again and again."

  • "We enjoyed relaxing family dinner at Amici Miei. The pasta and fish main courses were delicious, but the appetizers a little small and pricey."

  • "A bit pricey for a neighborhood place. The food was good, but I would say it was more expensive than it was worth. Service was average. I booked a reservation through OpenTable and stated I was going to propose to my girlfriend and requested their nicest table -- there was no acknowledgement that my message was even received. Given the occassion, if I had to do it over, I would pick a different venue."

  • "As someone who struggles with finding places that offer gluten free Italian I was more than happy that this place offered both gluten free pizza and pasta. I had the pizza and it was DELICIOUS!"

  • "We visited the restaurant for dinner on New Year's Eve. It was our second visit. The atmosphere and service are excellent at Amici Miei, which make for a nice dining experience. The food is good, though not outstanding. In my opinion, the pasta and gnocchi are a better choice than other main courses like fish, which are a bit bland. Salads are slathered in dressing, which is an unfortunately frequent occurrence in U.S. restaurants. Desserts are good and worth a taste."

  • "We made a reservation for Christmas dinner and it turned out to be a great experience. Our dinners were excellent and the whole atmosphere was very festive. Excellent service and ambiance. So glad they were open on Christmas!"

  • "Our family has been eating here for years. We love the food and come here often as it is everyone's favorite. The chefs menu is interesting and always changing to accommodate those of us who like variety. But the chef is always accommodating to our daughter - making sure she gets her favorites (salmon for dinner and tiramasu for dessert). A true gem!"

  • "rom the moment we entered the restaurant we did not feel really welcomed. The staff seemed to being going through the motions and did not appear to be happy to be there. This seemed to set the tone for the evening. The service was okay- even though it was not crowded, our waiter seemed pre-occupied. The food was good but weighing in the ambiance and the service, it is doubtful I would return."

  • "I heard about this restaurant before and decided to try it finally. Although the review in general was not bad, I still did not hold high expectation. However the food turned out to be better than I expected. The butternut rivioli was very good and so was the flourless chocolate hazelnut cake. However my husband's Lamb Shane did not have enough seasoning and thus a bit disappointing. I really like the idea of offering half portion of the pasta dishes. Also I applaud the restaurant for offering gluten-free and whole wheat versions of the pasta."
