We consider this one of the best restaurants in the Cleveland area. The food is always fresh, fabulous and consistent. Unlike many restaurants which have both uneven food and service...sometimes greats, sometimes horrible, Americano offers CONSISTENTLY wonderful and creative food, from appetizers through dessert, and great service as well on a regular basis. Great wine by the glass selections as well. All of this in an "old-school" atmosphere of beauty in Bratenahl Place on Lake Erie. My wife ordered ceasar and I the mixed greens top with spiced walnuts, strawberries, blue cheese and drizzled with a delightful vinaigrette. I had the bone in ribeye, it was cook and seasoned to perfection, accompanied with wild mushroom rosoto. my wife had a Filet with mashers.
The menu offered so many great affordable choices we already planned our next visit.

We were seated promptly, our waitress was quick to come over to take drink orders and go over specials, and food arrived at a reasonable pace. The calamari was cooked perfectly. The mussels, however, were underwhelming in terms of flavor. Two people in our party ordered the 14 oz. strip steak which was just mediocre (and over priced at $36). I ordered the short ribs which were awesome - probably the best thing all evening.
Overall I liked this place but I don't see what all the hype is about. I would go back with a coupon or if I was in the area for something. Service was great, though. The cornmeal coated fried oysters were still soft and moist inside, crunchy outside, WOW! My steak and my wife's salmon entree were large, tasty, and perfectly prepared.
The shortcake and berry dessert was a fitting end to a wonderful meal. Can't wait to visit again. This has become our favorite Cleveland eating spot.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AM5 star plus!Outstanding 5 star plus! Tucked behind beautiful ornate iron doors is the entrance. I was a bit intimidated at first, but the staff is not stuffy at all! One can tell that they LOVE their jobs!
The menu is not extensive & prices are reasonable. The server brings bread to the table along with an herbed oil & butter. FYI: Salads are not included with the meal & the portions are not large. The chef is co-owner, so that says a lot about the quality of your meal. If you are a "super taster" you will savor every bite on your plate.

Two issues: 1)My biggest complaint is the service can sometimes best be described as leisurely. Have been to several meals there since and I think the bar might be a touch more attentive.
2) My wife likes beer and why they bring and set a can on the table in a white tablecloth restaurant is a real head scratcher. You would think the server would pour and serve in a glass at least.

She had great suggestions but also listened to what we were thinking to make our evening special. It was a celebration of two birthdays. We just wanted to relax and have a great meal which was excellent from the crab cakes thru the pork chop with sweet potato waffles au pomagranete syrup and apple slaw with creme brulee to finish it off. Margree had the duck which was also excellent. Their dinningroom isn't open on Mondays but a limited menu is available at the bar and includes their special pasta with huge meatballs (just the way I always make them). Definately will be back!!
