A word from Americano Restaurant - Hotel Vitale
Americano features robust Italian farm-to-table cuisine with an emphasis on the philosophies of the Slow Food movement. Chef Kory Stewart features a refreshing interpretation of Italian classics prepared with ingredients from the Ferry Building's farmer's market and Bay Area artisan Producers.
I've always come at lunch, and
lunch is always a treat. Even when the room is full, the noise level is decent, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. I always encourage my lunch-mates to start with the artichoke and brussel sprout "fritti", which is perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Just the right taste to start a meal. I love the steak salad, because I can get the meat cooked just the way I like it, and it's moist and flavorful, on top of crisp lettuce with fresh and flavorful lemon vinaigrette. The hamburgers are also great - plump and moist and obviously not pre-frozen, with a soft fresh bun. The pasta of the day is also a good bet because there are always interesting combinations."

Be prepared to give your credit
card to waitress to get a table outside dining. Long wait to have your server provide service, food not all that, mainly the yuppy watering hole for hooking up."

We dined here on Christmas and
thus ordered from a special prix fixe 3 course holiday menu with choices within each course. All selections were excellent. Our entrees included Liberty duck breast, butter braised black cod, and the vegetable medley. Appetizers consisted of Tuscan kale soup and gnocchi with braised oxtail. All dishes were tasty and satisfying. Desserts were sticky toffee pudding and cara-cara granite. There also is an excellent cocktail list. N Both the décor and the service were was gracious and refined. The dining rooms are very comfortable, but although the restaurant is on the Embarcadero, not all rooms have water views."

If you're looking for a quiet
place to dine, this restaurant isn't it. At least on a Friday night. I met a friend for dinner there, thinking it would be a relaxed atmosphere, especially after a day of travel. Not the case. While the food and the service were good, the noise level from the bar scene made normal conversation difficult in the restaurant area. If you don't mind a lot of ambient noise from mingling singles on a Friday night, then by all means dine here. If you prefer something a little more quiet then dine here some other night or go somewhere else."

The food is always great. Great
atmosphere on the patio in the front of the bay bridge. All the dishes are prepared with taste and will never disappoint you. Highly recommended for a drink in the lounge area or diner."

Great location. Nice matches.
There is an outside area that was packed when we got there, mostly the hip, just got in from the Airport and I need a drink before I go up to my room and leave my bags in the room so there are not clogging up the walkways in the outdoor patio area type. We were helped right away, a very, nice, cute Hostess led us to our table and got us some water, said "Have a good meal" and that was the most attention we received all night. It took 10 mins for our Waitress to come by, we ordered drinks and food in case we didn't see her again for another 10 mins, food came pretty fast and was good. We started to look for our check early just in case, the Waitress was a no show for another 10 mins from there."

I made a reservation because most
places in the FiDi are packed during lunch. Not so at this place. Despite there only being maybe a quarter of the tables with diners at them, it took quite some time to get the two pizzas we ordered. When the pizzas arrived, turns out they made the wrong one for my lunch date, which was voluntarily comped, so that was nice. I do have to say that the mushroom pizza with truffle oil that I had was really delicious, however."

Brunch service was very attentive
and the food was worth going back for."

From a very vibrant bar scene,
both inside and out, from the waterfront views to the Bay Bridge light show, it has it all. The cuisine is creative, the service attentive, knowledgeable, and very willing to please on special requests. Well done on all accounts."
Dined on 3/7/2014
Don't go on Friday nights for
dinner - it's more a bar scene than a relaxing dinning experience."
Dined on 3/7/2014
Ate breakfast on a weekday. The
restaurant wasn't busy yet the service was absent. No one seemed to care. There was an overall lack of service. Once you got your food it was tasty."
Dined on 3/6/2014
Three of us had dinner and the
food was very good. The wine selection was very large. The Sommelier was very helpful. The prices were as expected. I will be back"
Dined on 3/5/2014
I had an excellent lunch which was
a tuna salad, my partner had the salad with chicken which was also very good. Creative ingredients with good balance of flavors. Ideal for a quick business lunch."

A group of us from work (most
people were visiting from out of town) had planned to grab drinks/dinner after meetings. We wanted a place convenient to the office that offered a lively bar/lounge area and food. I made a reservation for dinner, but we had about an hour in the bar to visit with folks who joined us who we're staying to eat. The service was great, the happy specials were good, and we were able to enjoy a few glasses of wine before moving to a table. Our party size increased from the initial number I'd made the reservation for and the hostess was very helpful and accommodated the change. Our waiter was so friendly, service was great, and food was excellent. It turned out to be exactly the place we were looking for. Two thumbs up!"

My friend's office is around the
corner and we always come here for breakfast. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared. We met up with some friends who live in SF and had never dined at Cafe Americano. They were pleased with their omelets and coffee. I am not an omelette fan but I will only eat the omelets here as they are cooked just right. The menu has the usual suspects but with a local ingredients and gourmet twist. Pastries and bread are all local and fresh. This is one of my favorite places for breakfast in the city."

We had a fabulous dinner with wine
pairing for Valentine's. It was a Prix Fixe menu and we both found options we were happy with. My girlfriend requested a different wine pairing suggestion for her main course and that request was happily satisfied. Every course was delightful and creative. We would definitely return."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Exceptional service, really good
food, and smack-dab on the Embarcadero."
Dined on 2/6/2014
The antipasti selection looked
interesting, had the tuna crudo and brussel sprouts to share - both were great. Our main meals were the sausage pasta, which was flavoursome but not outstanding. I have had better pasta at my mum's place. The other pasta was a mushroom, bacon and poached egg special. It looked ok when it arrived but the pasta was over cooked, lacked flavour and was swimming in a plate of sauce, I could not finish it."
Dined on 2/5/2014
Great dinner and service was
outstanding. Loved the mussels appetizer and pork chop main course was great."
Dined on 2/1/2014
My friends and I have lunch here
every few months and we always comment on the excellent service afterwards. It is so pleasant to dine without being bombarded by the wait person's personality. The food is very good, the chef creative and the ambiance perfect for enjoying one's companions and meal."

3 of us had the roasted kale
salad. The flavor was awesome but it was agreed upon by all who had it that it was hard to eat. Not sure how they could do it differently , maybe a more tender kale...? For what it's worth I ate all of mine, the other two did not."

You never know what you will get
when you eat at a restaurant inside a hotel. However, the Americano Restaurant was nothing like I expected. I was greeted by a very friendly individual upon entering the restaurant that immediately seated both myself and my guest. The staff was extremely attentive to our needs always making sure our needs met. I was very surprised at how fast we were served (although we did order the express lunch). The soup was unbelievably good and the tuna sandwich was unlike any tuna sandwich I've had before. I highly recommend Americano for business lunches and for after work gatherings. Very comfortable atmosphere and outstanding food with great service!"

we had a long overdue date night
at americano and the entire experience was fantastic. we're already recommended the place to 3 other couples in the past 24 hrs... and i'm sure i'll be talking about that carrot-bread-pudding dessert for the rest of my life! the artistry of food, service and decor all come together at the highest level at americano."

My family and I were in San
Francisco for Christmas and we went to Americano for a Prix Fixe Christmas dinner. It was truly wonderful! I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a special place to enjoy a holiday meal. I will also do my best to come back for a regular dinner next time I am in town."
Dined on 12/25/2013
The menu was a special one but the
choices were great. The presentation was very nice and the food tasty. The service was wonderful. Think this is on my list to visit again."

Took my Mom there for her birthday
and everything was perfect! My niece is vegan and the restaurant was so accommodating! The dinner was wonderful. I had the duck, my mom, sister in law and hubby had the prime rib and my niece had a vegetable dish. The food was beautifully served and very tasty. The first courses of the salad or soup were also quite good. Service was fantastic. Thank you to our servers and to the cooking staff. We know it is hard working on Christmas and appreciate everything you did."

While not a huge fan of
bars/restaurants in a hotel, Americano is definitely an exception. And when it is sunny in SFO, they have a large outdoor patio area. Solid food. Very good drinks (I prefer to always sit at the bar for the best drink experience). Very vibrant during happy hours, yet quiet for a productive business lunch."

Breakfast was very good. Latte was
also very good. Really enjoyed it!"
Dined on 12/23/2013
Enjoyed a nice business lunch with
co-workers. Service was excellent. Food was very good - the fried artichokes and brussel sprouts were excellent, and the carrot cake bread pudding was AWESOME! Otherwise, the food was very good, but nothing exceptional. The ambiance was a bit loud, and I also had a hard time visually since I was on the bench seat facing the window, so my colleagues were back-lit. It gave me a bit of a headache to look at the bright window. Otherwise, a nice meal, a lovely setting, and fine service."

Great place for business lunch or
breakfast. Near financial & south of market business. Efficient service, able to talk, very nice ambiance. I usually get the express lunch special which is just the right size."

Came to this restaurant because it
was recommended as a great place to see Bay Bridge Lights. However, when we arrived found you could only see it from the bar. Apparently you CAN see it from the dining area but there was wedding reception blocked the view (not sure about that though). Service was so-so. Ran out of bread and they never came back with it. Also, there is a "health" tax. Have not dined in SF for awhile but apparently its to subsidize health coverage (googled it later as our server didn't explain it to us). Our party had few of the pasta dishes and they were DELICIOUS. Kinda pricey though ($18) so don't understand why they can't cover those health costs. OK experience but definitely not for a repeat visit."

Found myself in San Francisco over
Thanksgiving. Fine fixed menu offering with nice choices, traditional to seafood. Nice wine pairing with each course and very fair value."
Dined on 11/28/2013
I was looking forward to this
dinner because I have been here previously and their food was always good, but things didn't really work with one of the dishes I ordered. The service, however, was very very good."

Great place to meet clients for
breakfast, quiet, spacious, delicious selection of items and very attentive service."

Generally better service than this
latest time. Breakfasts are great!"

We had been visiting Napa Valley
for several wine tastings. We love Free Mark Abbey so we visited the wine tasting. Miguel was the wine expert there and we had a great time. When we were leaving we told him we were going to San Fransisco for a couple of days and if he could recommend any restaurants there. He immediately mentioned Americano as being one of his favorites. Much to our delight he was right on. The wait staff and hostess were extremely attentive and eager to please. Our hostess upon hearing about Miguel and Barry at Free Mark Abbey recommending her restaurant brought us out an awesome array of desserts. We had a great dinner in San Fransisco!!"

One of my faves when I'm in SF.
Unfortunately on this trip, I had to endure the antics of a young child at a nearby table. He shrieked and whined on several occasions and then took to opening the patio door endlessly thereby causing a horrible draft to those of us nearby. His hapless father did little to control him - God forbid his meal be interrupted. I understand that restaurants can't have a "no children" policy and nor should they. I have 4 children ranging in ages from 15 to 6 and never took them to finer dining establishments until I knew that they could handle it and would behave. A note to Noah's dad and others like him: if you can't control your child then remove him from the restaurant, even if you haven't finished your meal."
Dined on 11/16/2013
We didn't check the
breakfast/brunch menu because it was a last minute decision. However the wait staff and kitchen were very helpful and were more than happy to accommodate our dietary requirements. The food was better than the food in average brunch places in hotels around town which showed in the satisfied patrons around us. The prices were also not too bad, although for better value they could offer set menus. We will definitely be back if we have a brunch appointment around the Embarcadero- it beats fighting the crowds at the Ferry Building!"

Visiting San Francisco from LA.
The Black Cod was melt in our mouth good and the special pasta with roasted cauliflower was amazing. Would definitiely recommend."
Dined on 11/14/2013
Nice limited menu, not
overwhelming like some restaurants. Delish pasta dishes! Loved the Brussels sprouts and artichokes!!!! Went with 5 friends and they put on an auto grat. I am fine with tipping and had put on a 20% tip and wasn't told it was automatic. I am always used to parties 8 or more but 6?? I am disappointed in the server not saying anything. She definitely didn't deserve a $110 tip?? We shall see how the restaurant responds as I asked for my applied one to be removed. So she will get 18% and not my 20!! But all in all loved the food."
