Americana - Des MoinesDinner in the ParkExcellent dining spot. Eclectic menu, great choice of side, wild rice pilaf and grilled asparagus especially delicious. Filet with mushrooms and onions, is sublime. Cheese plate a perfect plate the light eater.
Take time for a visit, good mix of guests, mostly friendly staff. Take in the Sculpture Park during and after dinner.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFun, Energetic BrunchFun & energetic (loud) Saturday or Sunday brunch. There are 2 levels & many larger groups were upstairs, perhaps contributing to the noise level. The service & food were both good. We especially appreciated a tour of all of the buffet areas when we arrived as it was our first time for brunch there. We opted for the combination buffet & unlimited Mimosa/Bloody Mary bars. The server brings a glass with the appropriate alcohol to you, then you add what ever juice & seasoning you wish from the buffet. The food portion does NOT have a carving station, but had some other interesting items not seen on the traditional buffet. The grilled cheese station was great, with several cheeses, Spam, bacon, etc. Soups were outstanding too.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful BrunchWe visited America for their weekend brunch.
Table was available when we arrived. Server explained the process for each food station for the brunch, which was very enjoyable. Overall an excellent experience!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find! After having dinner there, we booked brunch for the following day. Both were terrific. Great options on the menu and for brunch.
Would definitely return for both!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMyumwe went to the bombshell brunch and it was great. with reservations there was no wait, the staff was super nice, and the food was delicious. the only downfall was it was very busy, but that's because its so good. totally worth it.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good serviceGood food, large portion, good service... Price a little high but expected.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodBrunch was delicious and had great options - particularly for vegetarians5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy hour fun!We went to Americana for a friend's retirement dinner and happy hour. The manager brought us all a free glass of champagne! The food was delicious and the service was great!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo of our three steaks wereTwo of our three steaks were overdone. One of the side dishes tasted burnt.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a nice experienceWe have tried several places as a group and this by far was the best yet for a relaxed business dinner.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMixed BagGood service. Some of the food was good; bread pudding, tomato soup, taco fixings, meat, etc. The breakfast potatoes were bland and the gravy for the biscuits was disgusting, tasted like charred toast. There were some obvious quality control issues in terms of food. That, or a chef who isn't as good as the rest.
That said, I would go again in the hopes that the problems were remedied.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIt took a long time to getIt took a long time to get our food. Waitress was excellent, I don't think it was her fault that it took a long time.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived early for our reservatioWe arrived early for our reservation so had to sit a bit but were seated within a reasonable time. Our server was incredible - very courteous, prompt, and kept our glasses filled!
One meal was returned to the kitchen, but apologies flowed, the entree was replaced, and that entree was comped without asking.
Portions were generous. Overall, we will probably dine their again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBombshell ComboThe morning brunch on Saturdays and Sundays is wonderful. I have now been there three times for it and am pleased every time. The food is divine and the bottomless mimosas can never fail! I love this deal and wish I could go every weekend! Additionally, the service is outstanding and always pleasant and welcoming.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Brunch ExperienceThis wasn't our first visit to Americana, but it was our first foray into their weekend brunch. My husband and my baby were with me, and everything was perfect! Our waitress gave us a tour of the buffet, and we got down to business. Everything was fresh and delicious, from the piping hot, fluffy scrambled eggs to the fruit to the pecan rolls. We didn't partake in the drink bar, but from the looks of it, I'd definitely recommend it. The grilled cheese bar was pretty awesome, too.
Bring your appetite, because you're going to need it!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation luncheonWe had a graduation luncheon for my daughter. I made the reservation and they had our seats together when we got there. The food was good. The dessert was good. The service was good. I believe everyone enjoyed their meals.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall group funGreat tapas and full menu. Everything was delicious.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNjoyDSMLove the availability to book a lunch reservation online for a large group. When we arrived the table was ready and we were seated immediately! If you are looking for an awesome burger at lunch time I would recomend the "Burger Americana" a House seasoned burger with Tomato jam, Dijon aioli, Crispy fried onions, White Cheddar, Bacon!
Awesome food, awesome service! We'll be back!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional ServiceThe crew at Americana went above and beyond when my small group arrived for a bachelorette party dinner. Not only did they buy the bride's drink, they also provided us with free dessert and a glass of champagne for the bride when they asked us to move down to the bar area to make way for a larger party after we'd already settled the bill. They went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. This was my second trip to Americana for a special occasion, and I can't recommend it highly enough.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly serviceWe were a large group (15), with a time limitation. We got in immediately at our reservation time. Our waiter was great! Service was a bit slow, only as far as getting our food. But the overall experience was positive. Very personable waiter, tasty food, fun atmosphere!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningWe had a most enjoyable dinner after attending a performance at the Temple of Performing Arts. It was so convenient for us to walk down the street for dinner. We loved the fact that you accept reservations on a Saturday evening. Most important was the fact that you have a gluten free menu for our daughter and even gluten free beer. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMfavorite!!One of my favorite spots to take friends who are not familar with the Des Moines area. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is perfect for a quite night out or a fun friend outing!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food and atmosphere.great food and atmosphere. Unfortunatley the waitress never filled up water glasses even though we were there for a few hours for dinner and talking. That was the only issue.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food, fair prices, excellent food, fair prices, great drinks. Can't wait to go back; excellent food and service. Sit upstairs if you want romantic.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great. Waitress wasFood was great. Waitress was Rude! Not cheap so you expect some service. About the time the check was to come she tried changing her attitude. She wont even answer simple questions and barely would give any of us a chance to ask for another drink or appetizer before rollong her eyes and walking away. Hope we just had a bad one and others are respectful.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday brunchDefinitely a good place for brunch on Sunday with a friend visiting Des Moines.
Ambience is interesting, walls depict old scene of the same establishment, a car store.
Comfortable space.
Staff is organized and manages to sit A LOT of people.
Good for gatherings. Waitress did an excellent job despite demand from an almost full restaurant.
Cons: brunch was the only option on Sunday until 3 pm, at least when we were there, so do not expect to have a menu of options, although the brunch buffet offers a reasonable variety.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service,Excellent food and service, also had our request accommodated for a more private table. One complaint was overcooked asparagus, but the rest of our meal was fantastic.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly problem was too muchOnly problem was too much great food. Server was terrific. Will bring out of town guests and come again.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good. We wereThe food was good. We were warned it was loud and that is correct. We had a good time with our friends though.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMthis is my first time to Americanathis is my first time to Americana and I really enjoyed the food service and the ambiance at the place I would highly recommend add going there and we'll definitely make it at a spot to to check out again4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSometimes choices are notSometimes choices are not fun: 1)Fantastic selection of food, more than you can sample a little of each one, especially the smoked salmon.
2) Outstanding bloody mary buffet, with enough condiments for the drink you don't need the food line.
As a big fan of the Bloody Mary buffet line (Farmers Market)the Bombshell Bloody Mary ranks right up in the top 3.It fell slightly short not having chilled peeled shrimp or the meat straw.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated our 10th anniversaryWe celebrated our 10th anniversary with our children, family, and friends. They accommodated our group nicely, and served us delicious food and drinks for a very reasonable price. The server comped my husband and me our first round of drinks to help us celebrate, which was very nice! I wish they had some crackers available to help soothe my toddler while she waited for food. The bartender tried to help by giving us a chunk of bread, but it didn't have the same effect.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy feedback is Once we gotMy feedback is Once we got there they did not have our reservation. However they were still able to accommodate are reservations. Makes me wonder how this really works.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBombshell Brunch Hit the SpotThe Bombshell brunch was phenomenal. It was a busy day (St. Patrick's Day) and it took a while for the waitress to come take our orders due to the holiday crowd, but she was attentive thereafter. The number of dishes in the buffet was awe-inspiring and taste was delicious. Our table all got the bottomless brunch specials ($20) and two of us ordered the construct-your-own bottomless drinks (mimosas, bloody marys, and screwdrivers) which was good, although we had little room for drinks with all the food! Plan on several courses and come on an empty stomach - great food, great value!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWas in town and read reviews..HadWas in town and read reviews..Had to try this gem...What a find.
