This is American Regional Cuisine at its classic, pub-inspired best. The food is fun and what we like to call “approachable”. You’ll also enjoy some twists on the classics with taste-inspired ideas like our Dirty Caesar Salad and Greek Turkey Burger. At the American Tap Room we believe in using… local ingredients as much as possible and, yes, everything we serve goes well with beer.

  • "Perhaps the single worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. These guys need to get their act together. Food was slow, server flippant, manager uninterested. ATR should clean house. Multiple Diners met outside after the meal to discuss how bad the service was. Soup arrived after the entree. Salad was missing ingredients. Servers were absent for long periods of time. Apologies? None offered. Explanations for poor service were weak at best. My recommendation-- PASS. With multiple dining options in Rockville town center this place needs to find its A game quickly."

  • "Something has changed.....it used to be a restaurant we could go for a nice meal that was also good to go with our kids. 5 out of 6 ordered various burgers, 1 ordered a salad with a crab cake. When the food finally arrived, they had messed up every single burger. At first we thought the servers just placed the burgers in front of the wrong people....not a big deal. We sent 1 burger back for dietary reasons, but we were so hungry we just ate what they gave us. The manager NEVER came over even after we complained and pointed out the problem. The server blamed the kitchen saying they were overwhelmed, however....No one offered to comp anything!"

  • "We live in Rockville, and really hope that ATR can turn its act around. The ambiance is great, and the bar has a wonderful beer list. However, we were disappointed in our food for the second (and maybe final) time. About our meal: The signature "ATR Burger", ordered medium, was served blackened, with more of a burnt grill flavor than a tasty burger flavor, and the fish tacos lacked any seasoning, except, perhaps for a heavy dousing of onions. Thankfully, our local craft beers were poured well, assisting us with washing away the unsavory dinner flavors we received. We might come back for a happy hour, but there are definitely better restaurants in the Rockville Town Square. Time for a new chef, ATR!!"

  • "This was our second visit , this time we brought guests. My husband and I both ordered side salads. Mine was skimpy and full of unappealing croutons. His was great, just a couple of croutons, lots of greens. One companion ordered the grilled Caesar salad which had very little grilled romaine, and only 5 shrimp. It was a skimpy serving especially for $18. She expressed her disappointment to the waiter, who sent the manager over. He defended the salad, which was clearly not as advertised. No one asked for the manager, and having the meal interrupted by him didn't help make matters any better. Either deliver a better salad with more grilled greens, comp the salad, give a discount, or leave us alone! Don't argue with customers!"

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner here. Our server did very well and was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the pretzel as an appetizer, which was fun and tasty. The fish & chips entree suffered from a very heavy, though. The chips were too salty. The trout, perfectly cooked, had way too many nuts on top. The flavor didn't suffer, though. A nicely cooked piece of fish is always a pleasure. My spinach salad was quite good, with very fresh greens accented with citrus and feta. ATR has a great wine and beer list, as the name implies. We enjoyed a porter, some hard apple cider and a lambrusco. All in all a nice dining experience."

  • "Bought an Amazon local deal and decided to use it here. The food was just ok, not amazing. Wouldn't recommend it particularly unless you're into overpriced chicken wings and american food."

  • "The hummus lacked the amount of tahini that characterizes a good dish, and some of the pita was scorched black. The grilled salmon was not only cooked more than specified, but was overwhelmed by the sauce used to sautee the mushrooms that surrounded it. Some of the booths are isolated so that server and guests cannot see one another.. Unless a server makes a special effort to come by, it is virtually impossible to get attention."

  • "I really want to like ATR. It's a great location, a really nice dining room and that staff are always friendly and informative. It's also got a great bar and lots of good beers on tap and in bottle. However, the food just doesn't quite make it. I had a barely warmed ruben sandwich with flaccid fries and my wife had underseasoned chicken on an undercooked waffle. We've tried there a few times and are consistently disappointed with the food."

  • "Met up with some dear old friends and had a great night. Food and ambience were great, but evening particularly memorable because our waiter was sooo patient. We were having a wonderful time and probably overstayed our welcome, taking up this young waiter's table all night, but he never rushed us or made us feel unwelcome. Truly delightful service- for which we tipped well! Thank you!"

  • "Didn't want to wait for IHOP or Silver Diner. They sat us quickly but the food did take a while to get out. They also had a breakfast buffet. Would definitely go again. They don't have pancakes but they do have waffles."

  • "I will not base my service as an overall description for the rest of the restaurant because I saw other waiters being very attentive to other tables, but the girl I had that night was good but not great. She didn't pay too much attention to me and whenever I needed her she was nowhere to be found. But like I said, I observed other people in the restaurant not experiencing this issue. Other than that the food was excellent!! Every time I have ordered food from here it has been perfect. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to others."

  • "Have made American Tap Room a tradition after Mass on Xmas eve. Service was pleasant - not hurrying us along. Beer selection was extensive. Wines pretty good too. Bavarian pretzel and dips were awesome, pretzel could have been warmer, but still good. Steak and trout were pretty good. But should have ordered the signature chicken and waffles again! Flash-chilled teas are neat and tasty!"

  • "When we arrived the hostess and server did not communicate leaving us waiting a long time before any attention. Server was cleaning tables. I saw no busboys in restaurant. Although very friendly once she arrived drinks arrived after food and we had To ask for refills of water. Scallops were undercooked. Rest of food ok. Limited menu."

  • "Three of us ordered the chicken and waffles. All of our chicken was burnt. Our waffles already had syrup on them. So they were soggy and limp. So we returned them. My sons wanted softly scrambled eggs, but they were scrambled hard. Their pancakes were too done. They had a crust on them. Our new fried chicken and waffles arrived and the chicken was flavorless. They did not use any seasoning on it. The waffles were still limp. The new scrambled eggs for my boys were worst than the first ones. I should have known that this restuarant had issues because it was so empty."

  • "Went because of beer list. Didn't have first beer I requested. Waiter was stressed and too busy to serve us. Took 15 minutes just to get drinks out. Steaks were mediocre and very fatty. The filet looked more like a ny strip and wasn't cooked to our liking. The chili appetizer was the best part. Fun for a hot spot but not much else. Way too over priced for a step above bar food."

  • "Start to finish, this was a great meal and experience. The big bowl of chili starter was nicely presented and so good I wanted more. Next up was a brilliant creation -- a perfectly char-grilled steak accented with an excellent hollandaise sauce studded with jumbo-lump crab and nice asparagus spears. The smokey char on the outside of the steak complimented the rich, juicy and flavorful inside, done medium rare precisely as ordered. Underneath were several crispy fried potato cakes. I've paid twice as much for steaks at big-name steakhouses, and they didn't compare. If you go, and you must, ask for waiter Joseph, the best waiter I ever had. He's knowledgeable and passionate about food -- and fully attentive to his customers. Enjoy!"
