Diner Reviews
  • "This place is one of our kids favorites, especially do to the kids menu, and crazy kids drinks. The regular menu could use a little help, as it has gotten a little too condensed. But the food is rather good for sure. The wine list is decent, but could be revamped as well. But overall, this is a great place!"

  • "This was my first visit to American Tap Room. I arrived for lunch and ordered the Meatloaf sandwich from the lunch menu. Although the lettuce in my side salad was old and limp the meatloaf sandwich was Huge and tasty! The service was fast and friendly."

  • "Met some friends here on a Saturday night for dinner. The service was friendly and attentitite and the burger I ordered (BBQ Bacon) was very good, but the portion of fries was small and the dessert (carrot cake) was small and left a little to be desired. The atmosphere of Rockville Square was vibrant and definitely a plus as we dined outside. I'll probably give this place another shot, but I won't rush to do so."

  • "Had the chicken and waffles. Large portions but average quality. Chicken was way overdone but waffle was good. Service was excellent."

  • "Our server was really kind and attentive. The food was good. The cocktails were good, but small. Can I have a big girl martini glass next time?"

  • "Awesome spot in Rockville! The food, beer, and service were all fantastic!"

  • "A group of us came for dinner one night. There were few people inside but the outside patio was packed."

  • "The service was really good but the food was terrible. We ordered the cheesesteak eggrolls, salad with fried chicken and my husband had the almond crusted trout. The trout looked like a pizza and had no flavor, the salad had overcooked chunks of chicken and smelled weird, and the egg rolls were tasteless and very greasy. The waiter was gracious and offered to replace our meals but we lost our appetite by then and just left. The place could do with a renovation - the décor and furniture was very dated and kind of cheesy. They should also consider playing music in the background - its a large space and had very few diners Tuesday around 7pm and seemed almost too quiet. But the worst aspect was the food - we will not return."

  • "My fiancé and I love the American Tap Room in Bethesda so when it was time to choose a restaurant for my birthday dinner I thought American Tap Room would be a good choice. There were no available reservations in Bethesda so we made one in Rockville. The food and beer was delicious, but we were not impressed with the service. We were there on Father's Day and it seemed like they might have been under staffed, but the hostess forgot to reserve our table outside (after my fiancé and I arrived a half our before our reservation to request it and she seated multiple parties outside) and our waitress seemed really flustered. I think we'd go back for lunch or beers, but not for dinner and certainly not for a special occasion."

  • "I've been to other locations in DC area and this was my first time at the Rockville Town Center. I usually go for bunch at ATRs and the brunch menu here seem lacking. There weren't that many appetizing choices to choose from compared to the other locations. My friend and I ordered the chive and crab omelette and it tasted bland. I may come back for lunch or dinner but not for brunch."

  • "Service was fine, pretzel appetizer ok, but main meal for all of us was not very good. Probably ok die drinks and apps, but if you are looking for a nice meal, go somewhere else."

  • "Had the chicken and waffles on a Tuesday (in an empty place, only 4 other customers). I am from the south, and the chicken and waffles at American tap room would not be acceptable in my hometown. Chicken was over cooked but waffles were good. Maple syrup was fair at best. Should have had a sandwich. Service was good."

  • "Week night dinner. Great wine. Good food. Fish Tacos a little bland, but calimari was great. Not Rubbery. Server Oscar was great with good support from the othee servers."

  • "Hope is doesn't wear off but our Servier was new and the best we've had. Had profiles of the beers and wines and knew how the food would compliment the drink. Food was quick and good and the server pushed to make sure we had no issues."

  • "Chicken waffles was sad. Burnt chicken, ice cold butter for waffles, who does this. Turn your fryers down! 4:30 in the afternoon, have to go to bar to get happy hour. Bartender was so out of it. Takes a personal conversation with a co worker, let alone, we are standing there with cash in hand waiting to get a drink, 15 minutes later we get waited on. Only 2 patrons at bar. No body there. Get a life bartender!!,"

  • "We started off at the bar and had a couple of hh drinks with a chicken quesadilla app - excellent! Ended up staying there, place was not busy so it was odd why the food took longer than expected to come out of the kitchen but it was delicious. Our dinner fare was surprisingly good! My wife had the trout and I had the salmon. Everything was delicious, well portioned and priced right. There are lots of choices in the Rockville Town Center, ATR for us was a good experience."

  • "We usually have a great dining experience, but not this time. We sat outside on a sunny evening and there are only three umbrellas to block the sun. We sat at a tiny table meant for two but we had three people. The table was crooked and everything kept sliding off, including our drinks. The waiter tried hard, but he got my drink order wrong and my husband's food order wrong and brought the wrong side dish for our son. He made up for it and comped one of the drinks, but I was still disappointed overall. we may reconsider bringing our son next time, which is a shame because it usually is a nice experience for a family. • "First time going to this Rockville Town Center restaurant. Bruno was fantastic with his service and recommendations. The food was cooked perfectly to order. Burger & fish tacos were really good. The flight of beer, selected by the bartender for us, was great--loved his choices. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "My food was not prepared correctly; they serve me a raw burger. It was disgusting! They took the plate; so everyone was eating except me. They certainly could have left the fries, but they did not. I don't know it I would go back?"

  • "I was excited to try this new place, and while the pretzel appetizer and dips were amazing, the service was really awful. It took almost 45 minutes to get our food (salad and a burger) and my burger was very overcooked. The family next to us were so dissatisfied, they left without paying and I think it took the server 15 minutes to even realize that. I will not be going back."

  • "we found the main meals pedestrian and not what one would expect. They should either better communicate the difference in their preparation vice other establishments. The steak had a thick sauce that was not desired and quite odd for a NY Strip. The Humus burger was extremely spicy. The Mac&Cheese was very bland and in our kids words "horrible". The Kids Chicken and waffle was a very big hit. The sangrias were excellent. The beer selection was marginal but the two tried with the meal were both good. The appetizer (crab dip with baguette) was also a big hit. They had clean restrooms, good decor and plenty of room for seating. Would suggest drinks and appetizer but maybe someplace else for main meal. "

  • "I couldn't find reservation 3 days before Mother's Day; this was the only option that served American fare at the time we had planned to meet my mom. I trying to be optimistic given the negative reviews, but I thought their buffet spread was great. Our server was sweet, but a little absent. The management staff was really attentive though. I thought it was great and so did my family. "

  • "I visited ATR for Mother's Day brunch. We did not have a good experience. The price for the buffet was high ($29.95), especially for the selection of foods offered. The carving station and omelet bar was nice, but he was getting very backed up as he was the only one working at the station. He was the only staff member I encountered that pleasantly said, "Hi, Happy Mother's Day!" Our waiter, Michael, was disengaged. We ordered 3 sodas and a Mimosa. He forgot one soda and the Mimosa. Staff was cleaning carpets by our table, while our server was putting on lip balm, with his finger, next to our table. For $30 a person, I expect better food ,an attentive server and a positive attitude from staff - especially on a holiday marketed to mothers. • "I've been here a few times for lunch and thought it was pretty good. Took my mom to try the Mother's Day brunch and was a little disappointed. They did have a variety of options, mostly lunch items and very few breakfast choices. The main complaint I have was that many of the items were not hot, even though we got there at 10am. After receiving the bill I was certainly not happy with price I had to pay for the average meal we had."

  • "Something has changed.....it used to be a restaurant we could go for a nice meal that was also good to go with our kids. 5 out of 6 ordered various burgers, 1 ordered a salad with a crab cake. When the food finally arrived, they had messed up every single burger. At first we thought the servers just placed the burgers in front of the wrong people....not a big deal. We sent 1 burger back for dietary reasons, but we were so hungry we just ate what they gave us. The manager NEVER came over even after we complained and pointed out the problem. The server blamed the kitchen saying they were overwhelmed, however....No one offered to comp anything!"

  • "Perhaps the single worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. These guys need to get their act together. Food was slow, server flippant, manager uninterested. ATR should clean house. Multiple Diners met outside after the meal to discuss how bad the service was. Soup arrived after the entree. Salad was missing ingredients. Servers were absent for long periods of time. Apologies? None offered. Explanations for poor service were weak at best. My recommendation-- PASS. With multiple dining options in Rockville town center this place needs to find its A game quickly."

  • "Had a chance to try the new menu (lunch menu) which includes a number of $10 sandwiches and items. All very good, fresh and well done. Had the turkey club and it was good. Give the new menu a chance."

  • "We live in Rockville, and really hope that ATR can turn its act around. The ambiance is great, and the bar has a wonderful beer list. However, we were disappointed in our food for the second (and maybe final) time. About our meal: The signature "ATR Burger", ordered medium, was served blackened, with more of a burnt grill flavor than a tasty burger flavor, and the fish tacos lacked any seasoning, except, perhaps for a heavy dousing of onions. Thankfully, our local craft beers were poured well, assisting us with washing away the unsavory dinner flavors we received. We might come back for a happy hour, but there are definitely better restaurants in the Rockville Town Square. Time for a new chef, ATR!!"

  • "Grilled salmon as good as anywhere! Chicken Quesadillas on HH also good choice. Have not tried the burger. HH prices are excellent for beers!"

  • "This was our second visit , this time we brought guests. My husband and I both ordered side salads. Mine was skimpy and full of unappealing croutons. His was great, just a couple of croutons, lots of greens. One companion ordered the grilled Caesar salad which had very little grilled romaine, and only 5 shrimp. It was a skimpy serving especially for $18. She expressed her disappointment to the waiter, who sent the manager over. He defended the salad, which was clearly not as advertised. No one asked for the manager, and having the meal interrupted by him didn't help make matters any better. Either deliver a better salad with more grilled greens, comp the salad, give a discount, or leave us alone! Don't argue with customers!"

  • "Bought an Amazon local deal and decided to use it here. The food was just ok, not amazing. Wouldn't recommend it particularly unless you're into overpriced chicken wings and american food."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner here. Our server did very well and was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the pretzel as an appetizer, which was fun and tasty. The fish & chips entree suffered from a very heavy, though. The chips were too salty. The trout, perfectly cooked, had way too many nuts on top. The flavor didn't suffer, though. A nicely cooked piece of fish is always a pleasure. My spinach salad was quite good, with very fresh greens accented with citrus and feta. ATR has a great wine and beer list, as the name implies. We enjoyed a porter, some hard apple cider and a lambrusco. All in all a nice dining experience."

  • "The hummus lacked the amount of tahini that characterizes a good dish, and some of the pita was scorched black. The grilled salmon was not only cooked more than specified, but was overwhelmed by the sauce used to sautee the mushrooms that surrounded it. Some of the booths are isolated so that server and guests cannot see one another.. Unless a server makes a special effort to come by, it is virtually impossible to get attention."

  • "the deviled eggs in the chicken wings were very good, but the trout was very bland and did not taste like you have a season or nothing on it,the crab cakes were very good but the French fries with soggy,in the splash chilled tea was very good."

  • "Food was overcooked. Crab cakes overdone and not real Maryland crab. Salad was ok"
