We weren't waited on for 20 minutes. When we were the waitress spilled water all over the table and got someone to clean it up, but didn't herself. The redeeming part was the good food, but service was terrible.

Met someone for a working lunch and had requested a quiet table. We had a booth that was comfortable and enclosed on 3 sides, which was perfect. There was no competition with kitchen noise or other conversations. The menu is not extensive, but should have something for just about everyone. We both had soup and sandwich, and both were excellent and prompt. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. Someone (manager?) stopped by the table and asked how things were and how we were doing. The check was presented promptly at the end of the meal. From the friendly greeting at the door to the end, it was an entirely enjoyable experience.

We had very good food and a great place to people watch at ATR. Our server was helpful in selecting items from the happy hour menu. The signature appetizer of pretzels was good as usual. The Mc & Cheese with chicken was very flavorful. The salmon was tasty as always. We will be back.

I've eaten here before and never had a problem with the food or the time in which the food was served. We waited 40 minutes for a chicken sandwich and salad with salmon. The chicken sandwich was fried a little too hard and I had to actually cut into it to determine if it was really chicken or some other meat. Our waitress was clearly frustrated with the "mew cook" who was "going to be fired" later that day and the reason for the delay in our getting our order. Not the best experience this time around.

I specifically chose this restaurant because I needed to accommodate a large group for brunch. The site had a buffet brunch with plenty of menu options but when we get there we're told everything is a la carte..the a la carte brunch menu had very few options...things that I can relatively make at home most days. It was disappointing for everyone who expected a broad brunch selection. Get the menu on the site updated Tap Room, avoid disappointing your guests

We have eaten at ATR many times & always had very good things to say. But our most recent experience was an absolute disaster, from the service end. Our waiter was unprofessional, neglectful, absent-minded and to top it off, cavalier about it all. The food itself was very good. The skirt steak had excellent flavor & was cooked to perfection & by all accounts the steak sandwich was delicious. If we'd never been there before I wouldn't go back anytime soon, because the service was abysmal. But the manager was apologetic & offered to pay for the meal, with the hopes we'd give them another chance. A restaurant should not be judged on service alone, but the staff is the face of the restaurant and service is important. We'll try again.

Location is great, with easy Metro access and ample parking nearby. It has an impressive bar, with a huge beer selection. The food is superb, and we especially liked the calamari and the pretzel appetizers. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend it for casual dining, and they also have a nice room in the back that would be perfect for groups. We will definitely return.

The good: have a great patio and huge beer list (draft and bottle) if that's your thing. The not so good: had the slowest service in ages. Time to get a glass of water or beer refill averaged on 10 minutes if he remembered it. He was noticeably absent for long stretches, and then after he remembered to come visit, his approach of trying to flirt with the table wasn't appreciated. Also, the menu no longer has the flatbread pizzas which were a good winner. The burgers are fine, but no vegetarian option. Fries were ok...pretty cold by the time they got out to the table. Overall - go for the bar scene, not the food.

The highly advertised brunch was a joke! Not only was it totally disorganized, but the food was mostly inedible! The staff looked untrained and confused. The man (I will not call him a chef) never turned the flame up high enough to actually cook the eggs through, and also never flipped them! The yokes ram out raw and I had to send them back into the kitchen to get one that was actually cooked. We went there for Father's Day and could not have been more disappointed, especially since it was our first Father's Day as grandparents. Three from our group ordered off the menu and the food came out cold and incorrect (no hash browns and the wrong toast)...HOW HARD COULD THAT ORDER HAVE BEEN? Oh well...lesson learned and money wasted.

If you're looking for a comfortable restaurant to grab a beer and maybe some appetizers or even a full meal, ATR is a solid choice in Clarendon. This was my second time at this restaurant - the first was just to meet some friends for a couple of drinks. The food menu looked tasty so I wanted to make a point to come back and I'm glad I did. I went on a Thursday night and, I will say, that the noise level made it a bit difficult to hear the other people at my table, but if you are with a young crowd, it probably won't bother you. Again, the beer selection is great - extensive draft and bottled selection and the food was really quite tasty. I had the roasted half-chicken which was delicious.

Our waiter was wonderful and the food was delicious. We had the calamari appetizer, ATR burger, double crab cakes and two kids meals. The only disappointment was the crab cakes were much smaller than most restaurants. We sat outside which was wonderful, especially since the music inside was too loud and would of made it hard to converse.

We came to American Tap Room for brunch because we were on a tight time schedule (going to the Nats game afterwards) and they accepted reservations. We came a bit earlier than usual (10:45) but we were still surprised to find almost no one in the restaurant. The Sunday brunch buffet turned out to be quite small. The omelet chef, though friendly, appeared to be a bit lost and took a very long time to get our omelets ready. It was a good deal - $30 for buffet and bottomless mimosas - but it definitely could not compete with some of the other brunch hot spots in the area.

The whole staff was so nice and attentive. I brought my family here for brunch because I'd been for dinner before and figured ATR would satisfy the picky tastes in my family. They were all thrilled. Note to customers: If you get the bottomless mimosas, beware, because they serve them in a pretty large glass. I could barely finish the first one. I'm not complaining obviously, but I just wasn't expecting the bottomless to be served in such a large glass. Otherwise, everything was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this brunch to any foodie out there.

We came to ATR for Mother's Day brunch. Good variety of excellent food, good drinks, and specials for Mom. Server was very courteous when seating us, explaining the Mother's Day specials, and getting drinks. But then he pretty much disappeared. Granted, it was a buffet, but it was hard to find him to get more than the first mimosa of the "bottomless mimosa." We still enjoyed ourselves at a nice outdoor table, and filled ourselves with excellent offerings from the brunch buffet.

Went for Mother's Day brunch buffet and they of course raised the price from $20 per person to $30 for the special occasion, which it was not worth. The selection of food was mediocre, and they were not very quick to refill the food. The normal $20 would have been more fitting, as there are a number of other brunch places for $30 that provide a much better spread and service. Normally I like this place and their food, so it was disappointing. Our service was also terrible, coffee was cold, took forever to get anything. On the plus side we sat outside and it was beautiful, ambiance was nice so that made it a bit more enjoyable. Overall, I would come back here during normal hours but would probably not return for a brunch buffet.

We enjoyed ATR very much. The dog patio on the back is lovely with pretty flowers/landscaping, a quiet street view and a fire pit to keep us warm on a cool spring evening. We came here even though it's not super close to us because of how dog friendly ATR is and I've had good experiences in the past. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was good and I would like to have seen more organic, locally grown, humanely raised/slaughter options. The crab cakes were delicious--not so much breading, lump meat--definitely up to snuff for the DC area where we have a high standard for crab cakes! My mom requested a substitution on her vegetable and it was graciously accepted.

Went for brunch, but wasn't aware that they mostly run a buffet, which was unfortunate. Ordered the only ala carte brunch item, eggs benedict, which was moderately well done. Instead of english muffins they had cut circles out of slices of bread, which was a bit odd, and the poached eggs were way overcooked. Other than that, the food was good. The service was very friendly, but spotty. Our server would remeber only one item per visit, so came to our table dozens of times. I wouldn't choose to go again, but wouldn't object if someone else wanted to.

The brunch buffet did not have a great combination of brunch items. There was an abundance of breakfast items. The buffet food supply did not keep up with the customer demand and maybe that was because it was a holiday. The seating arrangement was not conducive to comfortably serving yourself. There was a group event in the buffet area and they were constantly standing in the path of customers sitting in the main dining area. I also felt that was an unsanitary arrangement with them being seated so close to where the buffet was located.

I think this place has some interesting things on the menu, like the pretzels and the option for grilled chicken wings over fried and the beer list is rather extensive. I love the leather chairs and the soft pretzels, but beyond that, the menu is really heavy and rich (in a bad way) foods. Food quality is similar to TGIFridays or Ruby Tuesdays. Not great. But fine. Not for a special occasion! Beyond the mediocre food, they are seriously lacking anything healthy and / or vegetarian options beyond salads. Need to revise the menu!

ATR needs to seriously reevaluate their steps of service. My family and I came in for brunch this past Sunday. It took our server 10 minutes to greet us. Luckily we were just coming in for the brunch buffet because if we were expecting to order off the menu we would've never had the chance to place the order. The food from the buffet wasn't spectacular. The waffles were stale and the omelette was extremely salty. What really agitated me was when I told our server we would like the check and she went off and did something else. Therefore I had to ask another employee for the check and he gave me the run around. Seriously, just print the check and swipe my card. All in all, ATR needs to reevaluate their steps of hospitality service.

We were anxious to kick cabin fever and pushed the envelope a bit to dine outside in mid March. Our party of three had an assortment of beers (all lovely), Bavarian pretzels (the dips were all great - we didn't expect to like the marshmallow), Turkey burger, jambalaya, and chicken and waffles were all exceptional. The chix and waffle was a mountain of food. The patio was a great atmosphere. Since it was early in the season, the space was not busy. It is probably more populated in mid-summer. We'll be back!

A good place to grab a drink and watch a game, but not worth it for brunch. The brunch option for a Sunday is a $20/pp buffet with at best "average" fair or 4 entree selections from the menu. A friend and I ordered the ATR breakfast which I would describe as SALTY. The toast- interestingly enough- is fantastic, but the eggs were salty, the hash browns reminded me of a dried potato reconstituted in water and fried on a flat grill with lots of oil and salt. Again, stick to a burger and a beer and this place is fine.

We visited ATR after six months overseas. This visit was as solid as we'd remembered others when we lived in the neighborhood. The food was its typical B and the service an A-minus. Only complaint might be that our order was delivered in a somewhat confused manner. My wife's "flat-iron steak" was delivered in a bowl with the salad. As it was in strips, it was OK; but, shouldn't a steak - especially lare pieces - be on a PLATE for cutting purposes?

We had great time dining at the Tap Room. My dining partner has trouble seeing in the dark and the lighted menus were a really nice feature. The service was friendly and always seemed to be there when needed and not hovering when not needed. The warm mushroom salad was large enough to be split as an appetizer and came pre-split into 2 bowls for us. My lobster mac and cheese was prepared quite well with lots of nice lobster in it. The lemon sorbet for desert was a flavorful but not too heavy desert to cap off the night. We will be back. Don't be afraid of the parking in Clarendon. Most of the garages charge just a $5 flat rate including the one just across the street.

    Dined on 1/12/2014
While I like ATR for dinner the brunch is a different story. The brunch menu this restaurant has on its website is only for Saturday. On Sunday they have a pretty inadequate buffet brunch for $19 with very limited selections for that price point. They only have a very few items you can order from the menu. The good news is they have $5 brunch cocktails which is a plus. The street parking is also dreadful on Sunday morning.

i made reservations for New Year's Day, not realizing that the only menu options would be the "Bar Bites" menu or a buffet ($19.95). We opted for the bar menu because the buffet looked like a lot of food and we were not starving. My burger was above average with really good fries. My friend had a hot dog and said it was excellent. The venue, however, is very comfortable. We hope to return and sample the regular lunch/brunch menu.

Good food overall and service was fairly quick. Drink list was pretty large and had something for everyone. Food is somewhat expensive for what you get but it is tasty. Overall it's an above average place to eat but not spectacular.
    Special Features:
good for groups, vibrant bar scene, notable wine list
