Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I went to ATR to meet a friend who was in town recently. Note drink happy hour specials are only at the bar. We did have the chicken waffle sandwich which was delicious and the spinach salad with salmon. Great food but the service was really slow. It seemed that there was only one waiter for the dinner crowd and lots of servicemen in the kitchen delivering food. Need more waiters!!"

  • "I love the leather chairs and the soft pretzels, but beyond that, the menu is really heavy and rich (in a bad way) foods. Food quality is similar to TGIFridays or Ruby Tuesdays. Not great. But fine. Not for a special occasion! Beyond the mediocre food, they are seriously lacking anything healthy and / or vegetarian options beyond salads. Need to revise the menu!"

  • "Everything from food to service to ambience was lacking. Honestly, with so many great choices in Clarendon these days, I'm kind of surprised they can survive with such poor service and food."

  • "ATR needs to seriously reevaluate their steps of service. My family and I came in for brunch this past Sunday. It took our server 10 minutes to greet us. Luckily we were just coming in for the brunch buffet because if we were expecting to order off the menu we would've never had the chance to place the order. The food from the buffet wasn't spectacular. The waffles were stale and the omelette was extremely salty. What really agitated me was when I told our server we would like the check and she went off and did something else. Therefore I had to ask another employee for the check and he gave me the run around. Seriously, just print the check and swipe my card. All in all, ATR needs to reevaluate their steps of hospitality service."

  • "We were anxious to kick cabin fever and pushed the envelope a bit to dine outside in mid March. Our party of three had an assortment of beers (all lovely), Bavarian pretzels (the dips were all great - we didn't expect to like the marshmallow), Turkey burger, jambalaya, and chicken and waffles were all exceptional. The chix and waffle was a mountain of food. The patio was a great atmosphere. Since it was early in the season, the space was not busy. It is probably more populated in mid-summer. We'll be back!"

  • "It was a good place for a date. Nice, quiet and easy to actually get to know someone. Food was great. The service was quick, always there if you needed something but not bothersome. Highly recommend it."

  • "We very much enjoyed our meal, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. A little pricey, considering the portions and lack of salads/bread to accompany the entrees, though. But all in all, a very nice dining experience."

  • "One of the diners in our party found a large hair in her salad. I don't think there's a point in reviewing anything else."

  • "A good place to grab a drink and watch a game, but not worth it for brunch. The brunch option for a Sunday is a $20/pp buffet with at best "average" fair or 4 entree selections from the menu. A friend and I ordered the ATR breakfast which I would describe as SALTY. The toast- interestingly enough- is fantastic, but the eggs were salty, the hash browns reminded me of a dried potato reconstituted in water and fried on a flat grill with lots of oil and salt. Again, stick to a burger and a beer and this place is fine."

  • "We visited ATR after six months overseas. This visit was as solid as we'd remembered others when we lived in the neighborhood. The food was its typical B and the service an A-minus. Only complaint might be that our order was delivered in a somewhat confused manner. My wife's "flat-iron steak" was delivered in a bowl with the salad. As it was in strips, it was OK; but, shouldn't a steak - especially lare pieces - be on a PLATE for cutting purposes?"

  • "Hey there, This was a FANTASTIC brunch and I was pleasantly surprised! There were a lot more food choices than a "regular" brunch buffet."

  • "We had great time dining at the Tap Room. My dining partner has trouble seeing in the dark and the lighted menus were a really nice feature. The service was friendly and always seemed to be there when needed and not hovering when not needed. The warm mushroom salad was large enough to be split as an appetizer and came pre-split into 2 bowls for us. My lobster mac and cheese was prepared quite well with lots of nice lobster in it. The lemon sorbet for desert was a flavorful but not too heavy desert to cap off the night. We will be back. Don't be afraid of the parking in Clarendon. Most of the garages charge just a $5 flat rate including the one just across the street."

  • "While I like ATR for dinner the brunch is a different story. The brunch menu this restaurant has on its website is only for Saturday. On Sunday they have a pretty inadequate buffet brunch for $19 with very limited selections for that price point. They only have a very few items you can order from the menu. The good news is they have $5 brunch cocktails which is a plus. The street parking is also dreadful on Sunday morning."

  • "Good food overall and service was fairly quick. Drink list was pretty large and had something for everyone. Food is somewhat expensive for what you get but it is tasty. Overall it's an above average place to eat but not spectacular."

  • "Service was alright, waitress came back to check on us but didn't ask me if I wanted a refill on my drink, and the food was just alright, not exceptional but not bad either. A little overpriced for the quality of food I thought. Overall a nice experience."

  • "i made reservations for New Year's Day, not realizing that the only menu options would be the "Bar Bites" menu or a buffet ($19.95). We opted for the bar menu because the buffet looked like a lot of food and we were not starving. My burger was above average with really good fries. My friend had a hot dog and said it was excellent. The venue, however, is very comfortable. We hope to return and sample the regular lunch/brunch menu."

  • "We managed to get a table easily on a Saturday night, which is not always easy to do in Clarendon. Naturally we started with their pretzel appetizer with marshmallow and honey mustard dip. Very tasty and fun way to start the meal! I ordered the turkey burger, which was delicious, surprisingly flavorful with the tzatziki sauce on top, and cooked perfectly. My friend had the chicken sandwich which was also a tasty choice with its unexpected pineapple topping. Overall great experience, fun vibe, and I'd love to come back for a drink and dinner another time."

  • "I love Taproom's restaurant early in the evening when it is not crowded and the acoustics have not elevated the noise level to the point where you have to almost shout to be heard in a conversation. I've left with a sore throat the three times I've been there past about 7:30. Sigh. Too bad because the food is good, the service very well done and the beer options fun. More of a bar for standing and drinking and less of a restaurant for gathering and talking when all is said and done."

  • "Nice place with TV's and comfortable seating, but not really a place I would recommend. The food was just average..its an ok place to meet for lunch."

  • "Great food selection. The make your omelette station was the best!! The pumpkin filling with the French toast lacked a bit of flavor but the French toast itself was tasty. Bottomless mimosas for an additional 10 dollars with the buffet great!!"

  • "I've been to this restaurant a few different times but always for dinner until this past weekend. The soft pretzels with cheddar ale/ bacon dip is AWESOME. I recommend it at any time of the day. We went for brunch and the restaurant was pretty empty which is surprising for that Clarendon area. I got the chicken and waffles as it's labeled a "staple" on the menu… but it was far less than amazing. The chicken AND waffle were overcooked and dry. I wouldn't suggest ordering it to others. We've been there for dinner before and the place was packed and food was awesome. Main takeaway- go for dinner and skip brunch. :) Note- this could have just been an "off day" for the chef/waitstaff.. but wanted to be honest!"

  • "I'm a Restaurant Owner. It was Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. and the restaurant wasn't even half full. The lack of management oversight seems to be the problem here. Our service was so bad that our server had come over and actually asked us after our side salad plates and beverages were empty if we were ready for the check. We should have said yes. However, I said, no we were planning on eating dinner. Are we still able to order? Consistency is key in the hospitality industry and it is apparent there was none this Sunday evening. Our food was over cooked, sauces cold, and drinks took 15 minutes, but our server or any other server that kept walking by would have known if they asked. Terrible service and we'll never go back to this location."

  • "For a place that has been around for a bit, it should have worked out the kinks by now. They do not know how to handle the large Clarendon crowd on weekends. The entire staff were completely overwhelmed. The hostesses were stressed out and a tad rude, the floor manger that night had no clue, and a few other things With all that said, the bartenders were great while we waited for a table for almost an hour. And when we did get a table we had an excellent waitress. The food was above average. The portions are a bit small for the money. Overall, if this place gets it act together it wil be a great neighborhood pub. We enjoyed and will go back again, especially since we live 2 blocks away."

  • "While I had not been to this particular location, I have dined at other American Tap Room locations. The food is great as expected. However, I found the service here to be better than at some of the other locations."

  • "This restaurant does an outstanding job of offering tasty gluten free versions of many of their delicious entrees."

  • "The name and exterior of this restaurant are quite deceiving. Expecting a bar-like scene with sub par pub appetizers, I was surprised by the warm, rich interior of the dinning area. The LCD light up menus were a cool twist adding to the trendy yet down to earth feel. Service was average but every dish that we ordered did not disappoint! You cannot go wrong with any of the steak entrees. Also notable was the arugula and mushroom salad.. I added chicken which was cooked to a succulent perfection! Place was not overly pricey for Arlington. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to for a comfortable yet indulgent dinning experience!!"

  • "Beer selection was good. Wished our server had known a bit more about the beer. Food OK. Chicken and waffles came soaked in syrup...too much. Pecan trout good but a tad greasy."

  • "I had lunch here with a business friend. I had the chicken Caesar salad which was OK. My friend had the salmon and it was really under-cooked so it had to go back, which always screws up a meal. Service was OK, nothing to write home about. There seems to be enough on the menu so I would probably try it again."

  • "Our area has so few places with pleasant outdoor seating that ATR would be attractive even if the food was awful. Fortunately, it's not - quite the opposite. On this lunchtime visit, we really enjoyed the selection and quality; a half-sandwich-and-soup deal, for example, for those who want to keep it light; the turkey-avocado club was excellent; and the food is nicely complemented by a good choice of drinks, beer, and wine -- for a new twist on a refreshing summer beverage, try a virgin mary with Old Bay-type crab seasoning applied to the rim. Service was excellent; and if the weather is not quite right for sitting outdoors, the interior ambience is good too."
