A word from American Harvest Restaurant
Savor a gourmet lunch prepared and served in Schoolcraft College's student-operated restaurant. The menu, which changes daily, features freshly baked breads, soup, salad, a choice of entree, and a selection from the tempting dessert table. All items on the menu are a la carte. Students work under the direction of an award-winning Certified Master Chef.

For dinner, enjoy an extravagant buffet in a beautiful setting at a reasonable price. Please join second-year students in the International and American Cuisine class, under the direction of a Certified Executive Chef, as they prepare International favorites. Themes change weekly and include American, European, Latin & South American, Asian and Middle Eastern.

Reservations are recommended for lunch and dinner.

  • "What a gem we have with Schoolcraft and American Harvest. While it's a teaching restaurant that is far outweighed by the quality and perfect meals that they are delivering. If you haven't tried it for lunch I highly recommend it when you want an upscale meal with friends or colleagues at a more than fair price. I'll be trying the dinner buffet next and look forward to that. Plan to be impressed."

  • "It was my mother's birthday and we had a wonderful lunch with great gourmet food. They have beautiful decadent dessert items and they specially decorated her plate for her birthday. The chef even sent us complimentary Smoked Salmon with Mediterranean Vegetable Rolls. Service was good, food excellent, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We definitely plan on going again. Since it is a culinary arts school the tip even goes to the scholarship fund!"

  • "My friend and I visited for the first time ever. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, from the hostess to the end. We loved the white linen napkins, the professionalism of the staff, and of course, the food. The dessert presentation before we were led to our table was very nice, as well, although it did make the choice for our desserts difficult, but in a good way! The cost of this dining experience was suitable, also, a chance to dine in style without the expense of a fancy restaurant!"

  • "We were warmly greeted when we arrived and seated right away. Server was very friendly and brought waters, bread basket, butter and asked if wanted to see the wine list. The entire evening was most enjoyable! Food was delicious and beautifully plated. The entire experience was wonderful and we'll continue to frequent this restaurant, especially since it is part of the culinary curriculum at Schoolcraft College. The students are the chefs, servers and proud beneficiaries of many accolades for their creativity and talents. Kudos to them!"

  • "I really liked the variety. I especially liked the short ribs as last time the short ribs were tough. I went back for seconds which meant I didn't try all the varieties of meat. I liked the shrimp and lamb chops as well. I really enjoyed the salmon but there were about 7 bones in it which I thought unusual. The dessert selection was great as usual. I know there were a variety of salads but only the regular lettuce salad was to my taste (which was fine since I wanted to try more meats). All-in-all a great meal. "

  • "It's always an adventure coming to American Harvest Restaurant for dinner, because it's all the food that students make for their tests. You would assume that these dishes are at the top of their game, since they are graded on it, but that also means they're not all A+s. Some dishes are delicious and some can be flops. The things that are always really good are the desserts. Having said that, for the price and the variety of dishes, this is a great place to go if you're feeling adventurous. "

  • "It's hard to believe that these people are just learning their trade! Everything about The American Harvest seems polished and professional. Our waiter was the best I've had in any restaurant since Michael Mina's in the Bellagio at Las Vegas. The food was perfect - tasty, attractive, and oh, the AROMA! And the desserts! All beautiful, all exotic, and all lined up for you to see and choose. I always buy one for the meal and one to go. If ever you get a chance to go to The American Harvest, don't miss it. "

  • "I took my Sister and Brother-in-law to lunch recently and I knew my previous experience at American Harvest was over the top. However, my 2 family members had never been there and were amazed with the service and the tasty food they ordered. My Sister is quite the cook and found the strange sounding fish chowder to be so good that she asked our waitress the ingredients and the waitress gave her a basic recipe that my Sister could add to and enjoy something similar at home. Bottom line is we will be back many many times when the restaurant opens up again later this year. Thank you!"

  • "Over all the experience was very nice. The food was good, but portions were smaller than used to. Food was a bit blan, but the combinations were interesting. The deserts were very good. The service was very good, smiles and help-fullness everywhere. She got what we needed and answered all our questions, even though she was very busy. The Descriptions on the Menu could have been a bit more descriptive for us that are not very familiar with the dishes prepared. We will come again and we did enjoy the experience."

  • "We enjoyed our experience from the very beginning...the salad bar was full of wonderful choices making it hard to take a little bit. The entrees were well presented and had signs identifying them. We did ask what items were and an explanation was forth coming. There was ample selections and we had a great time sampling. We absolutely loved the dessert selection and took almost one of everything and did share and told each other which we liked although it was hard. The service was very good - quiet and timely. The ambiance was very nice and added to the evening - noise level even though it was full was perfect we could chat without raising our voices. Would and already recommended American Harvest."

  • "I was in a group of four and we ordered three different entrees. We agreed that the food was extremely well prepared and the sauces (on the venison steak and the sea scallops) were outstanding The plate presentations were done as well as those I have had in the past at 4-Star and 5-Star restaurants, including the Maisonette in Cincinnat or Scoma's in San Franciscoi, but at far greater prices. The bread pudding was less than hoped for, at least by the reviewer as I use to go to New Orleans on business and I know what it can taste like."

  • "I'm more of a meat and potato's guy and so this eatery was a little too high brow for me. I ordered the Salmon and expected a Salmon steak and got six thinly sliced pieces of smoked raw Salmon with what I would call a garnish; that's it. They were tasty, but more of an appetizer to me than a meal. The soup was a beet beef mixture and I'm not a really a beet guy but with no other choice I went for it. it was okay.To sum up, my wife and I went through three bread baskets to get to a point where we felt like we had a meal. Sorry, this venue was so built up by friends and co-workers I expected more..."

  • "This was my first visit to American Harvest. The food was good and the plating was pleasing to the eye. There was an entire counter filled with an array of desserts. You didn't know where to start. There were only three drawbacks for me. One, it took some time before a waiter came to my table. After that; however, the service was pretty attentive. Two, the website references lunch for $6.95. (see below) I didn't see anything for $6.95, but that was ok. Lastly, I was expecting more entree offerings. "If you live in the metro Detroit area and have not yet enjoyed the experience we offer, put us on your radar. Where else can you have a $6.95 lunch served with Italian truffles?" Overall, it was a very pleasant experience."

  • "My only negative comment is about fellow diners which I know is out of your control to a certain extent. My husband took me out for my Birthday and we especially enjoyed the lamb chops. Best we have ever had. There was a table of 8 sitting near us with 4 adults and 4 children. They all went over to the desserts and basically took one of everything. The parents heaped desserts on their plates and they allowed their children to do the same. We walked up after them and there were a couple mutilated items left. One more plate of dessert was brought out and we each took one. When the kids saw they had brought out something new they raced over to get it. We noticed other diners looking at what was left with a look of disappointment."

  • "American Harvest has a more limited menu than your average restaurant but makes up for that with a nice balance of choices and flavorful dishes that are often out of the ordinary. At lunch last week the shrimp with lobster sauce was DIVINE! Intense flavor. And we had at least a dozen desert selections. This program is supervised by Master Chefs. What a dining jewel for the Detroit Metropolitan area. Go to Schoolcraft Community College in Livonia. You're unlikely to be disappointed."

  • "Don't arrive too late. We had a reservation at 6:45 pm not knowing the place closed at 8 pm. Checked out the selections prior to getting soup and salad. By the time we were ready for the entrees, the lamb chops were gone (sorry there are no more to replenish the serving tray) and some picked out all the shrimp from another dish. The atmosphere was pleasant and so was the music. Our server went missing for a bit and I would rate her service average at best. Would definitely return with a big appetite and a 6 pm or earlier reservation."

  • "What a great way to expand your experience with food. Regular restaurants seem to specialize in one style of cooking. American Harvest can expose you to many different regions. Our third trip was a TBD and we did not regret our choice. Everyone in our party found many dishes to enjoy. Half of our group doesn't like seafood and the other half does. Each group was very happy with the selections. The Tonkatsu (a dish I had never heard of) was so good I went on-line to find a recipe and prepared it last night. Theirs was better than mine but I will try again. The desserts are just fantastic, so leave some room for them."
