Diner Reviews
  • "Marc Forgione is such a great chef. I'm a frequent customer at Forge. But I have to say I love American Cut, as well. Great steaks and all the best sides, with a great bottle of wine. The staff is amazing-so friendly and attentive, especially Merriette!"

  • "Took my wife here for her birthday. Just an all around great NY restaurant!!"

  • "Another steakhouse following the same formula as Palm, Wolfgang's, Bobby Van's, Del Frisco. Nothing much different, so we were a little disappointed given how inventive Marc Forgione's and Khe-Yo are."

  • "first time dining experience very good. octopus appetizer is divine. very accommodating to gluten free allergy which is always nice. definitely recommend."

  • "I ordered the Veal topped w/ his famous Chili Lobster. All I can say is "Wow, what a flavor explosion!" The veal was a t bone cut, charred beautifully on the outside & a nice medium rare (as I specified) on the inside. It was incredibly tender & juicy. No grizzle & very lean. The Chili Lobster never disappoints! Decorated in an art deco/Gatsby style, the overall mood is very romantic. I highly recommend American Cut!"

  • "Not your typical brute steakhouse. Softer yet manly steakhouse with incredible Marc Forgione cooking. A must go. Everything was good and the specials even more so"

  • "All I can say is WOW. American Cut is a cut above all the other steakhouses in the city. Must have on the menu is chili lobster appetizer and the Tomahawk rib-eye chop is one of the best steaks I ever had. Marc Forgione is the real deal!"

  • "Extremely good meal with colleagues who raved about the place! Marc Forgione has done it again and it was very nice to see the Chef and know that he takes a personal interest in customer's dining experience."

  • "We celebrated our 30th anniversary at the restaurant. Our daughter learned of our reservation, called from Houston and worked with the manager to make our night so special. Our kids sent letters and paid for our meal. What a great surprise for the manager to hand us letters from our children! Thanks for taking the time to make it specail for us. We loved the food and the atmosphere ."

  • "We recently went to American cut for a friends birthday. Although we had 9:15 dinner reservations (which is already late) and my friend was pregnant, and we arrived 30 minutes early, we waited until closer to 9:35 to sit. Additionally we were told multiple times that a "table was getting up" and that we would sit shortly, which of course we were then tiold that they "wouldn't be getting up" so we were waiting for the next table to be finished. Furthermore the prices are outrageous. The drink and the steak prices are crazy, i.e a steak/lobster special is $175. The restaurant is absolutely georgeous and very sheek, I think it's probably because it's still new that it's having some challenges."

  • "Not your typical steakhouse but good nonetheless. Bit on the higher end in terms of pricing and off the beaten path in terms of bars and restaurants in the area, but worth checking out."

  • "If you're going for steak, not worth the price. Appetizers were great, but the porterhouse for two was smallish relative to other steak houses and at $104 you would expect it to be tastier / all of the flavor seemed to stop at the crust (of note: creamed spinach was sub par). Also, felt the service was a bit blase, did not feel as though they were happy to serve you / were not excited about the food, and were not attentive. If you go, make sure its on an expense account, if spending your own money, go to one of the other options just a few blocks away."

  • "American Cut is an amazing steak joint that just opened in Tribeca. We went for a celebration dinner and the service could not have been better! Jared was our waiter and was an absolute joy! He was very attentive and enthusiastic about his job. I would 100% recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Very enjoyable time passed at the bar while people watching - great seats, great decor, great vibe. Not crazy-loud. All food well-prepared and enjoyable -- two meat eaters & two fish eaters at the table. Table at dinner was very wide - making it easy to place our plates but difficult to speak across. Definitely falls into the special -occasion pricing category!"

  • "Enjoyable from beginning to end. Atmosphere is great. Beautifully decorated in dark/light marble/brick walls. Does not have the old traditional steakhouse mentality or stuffiness. Servers are very attentive and helpful. Food was equally good...from the "everything" biscuit that they provide, to the ice cream sodas. Ceasar salad, presented whole leaf, whole crouton, and egg, and then chopped by the server, had very good flavor, and a hint of red pepper flake that sneaks up on you. Tomahawk Veal Chop and NY Strip with just the right amount of char and temperature was correct. Sides were good as well. Downstairs bathrooms are a bit of a pain but overall, this restaurant is worth a try and we will return!"

  • "Besides great food, you cannot find a better atmosphere, ambiance or a staff that treats you better. The tone is set just walking in the door where you are greeted warmly and as if you are the best customer they have. Everyone from the bartenders to wait staff are knowledgeable and attentive. Can't wait to go back."

  • "My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at American Cut! All the food we had was amazing. Steaks were cooked just right and the special Brussel sprout side dish was just to die for. The AC car bomb for dessert ended our dinner just right! Totally will go back again and the service was great!!"

  • "First stop for us was drink at bar. Bartender was very warm and friendly. Made us feel welcome. Then it was time for dinner. We're seated at a wonderful table, service was excellent. Attentive but not fussy. Food was probably best steak and sides that any of us had ever had in NYC. Had heard about the Cracker Jacket Sundae. Perfect way to end the evening. Truly 5 star experience"

  • "Three of us went to American Cut for the first time on 2/15. We loved it.The Ceasar salad was spectacular. The octopus salad was the best I ever had. We all had the filet. I ordered medium- rare, my son ordered medium and my husband wanted his steak medium- well. Each one was cooked to perfection. The staff was attentive. The decor was art deco with a relaxed vibe. The restaurant's facade suggests a small venue and does not do justice to the interior design but once inside it's elegant, powerful and welcoming. It is a good value and not over-priced like most NYC restaurants."

  • "My wife an I tried American Cut on a Saturday night. Our favorite steakhouse in NY is Keene's, but we wanted to try something different. The room at American Cut is great and the service is generally very friendly. It seems like its a restaurant that wants to be a scene, however, with the music and prices. The food was very solid, but I feel you get a much better meal and experience for the dollar when you go to one of the more classic NYC steak houses. So while it was good, we'd probably not rush back."

  • "We went out for my husband's birthday, after a huge snowstorm, and surprisingly, there were quite a few people there. The space is big, and GORGEOUS. Drinks were awesome, we hung out at the bar which I would imagine on a normal non-Antarctic evening, would be packed. We sat and ate- I got the crab cake appetizer. Though I referenced the fact that lived in Maryland, he assured me I would love it, it just wasn't what I wanted. Don't get me wrong, it was good, - I should know by now a Maryland crab cake is ONLY in MD. We also got the caesar salad which had hardboiled egg in it- weird- and a very rich, heavy creamy dressing. We totally ate it all. Hubby got the steak, he was happy but said it wasn't the best. We will definitely go back."

  • "If you want a delicious, high calorie treat... Go here! From the poppy, proscuito and cheddar scones to the thick creamy cesaer salad, this is the place to indulge! Steaks are great, mac and cheese, sinful. All in All, go after your 3 day cleanse! Then start another one."

  • "We were greeted by a friendly and efficient hostess who saw us to our table immediately upon arrival. Our drink service was prompt as were the delicious scones we were served with our drinks. From there on it was downhill. The steaks were leathery, the potato puree was more like potato soup and the cauliflower was inedible. There is fierce competition in the neighborhood from Wolfgangs and The Palm. Shape up guys!"

  • "We were excited to try out American Cut and we were not disappointed. The Caesar Salad was one of the best I have had in years, and the New York Strip was easily one of the top five steaks I have had in NYC (which says a lot). Tribeca now has a lot of choices for steaks, but if you're looking to take a "date" I would choose American Cut. I was there with a friend on business, but we would easily return with our wives. Service was perfect, gracious and not rushed. Lastly, the decor is gorgeous."

  • "Great steaks – hands down. Both the NYC cut ribeye and strip steaks were perfect. The Caesar salad tasted modern and fresh. The mushrooms were an amazing accompaniment and the Cracker Jack sundae is just ridiculous. Got a great wine recco from the sommelier and the cocktails are the real deal. Early diners on a weeknight were all dudes in suits ordering the biggest steaks money could buy. Busy place but the service was friendly, attentive but never took away from the meal. Highly recommended."

  • "For a city that has so many great steak houses, and with so many restaurants serving great steaks, American Cut is all the way down on my list, despite being 2 blocks from my apartment. Service is ok, and handed well the wine that we brought. But when it came to the food, it was disappointing. My steak wasn't medium rare (it was more for medium well) and so was my wife's and friend. The sides were pretty big, and 2 are more then enough for 2 people, but the waiter never let us know. If you are in Tribeca, you better of going to the original Marc Forgione restaurant, of if you willing to spend that kind of money on steak, go to Peter Luger or Strip Steak..."

  • "We came to celebrate my girlfriend's b'day and could not have been happier about the choice. It was one of the best meals we have ever had and was perfect for this celebration. From the warm welcome we received when we entered to the great wine suggestion from the sommelier to the wonderful steak and every single accompaniment."

  • "I would definitely recommend American Cut to ANY steak lover. The meal was excellent. Our server was very attentive and I like that gave us an approximate time that our food would come out since we did not order appetizers."
