The wine list was sparse for moderately priced wines. The restaurant did not offer many mixed drinks which are standard like mojitos even though the bar from the Ritz Carleton ( where the restaurant is located) is right across the lobby. The food was mediocre and the portions quite small; however, the prices are quite big! As soon as one of our group finished eating, one after another wait staff came over to try to take all of our plates. WE finally just had to tell them to leave us along. Lastly, they tried to charge us $4 each for the valet parking which they had told us on the phone was free. we will not return.Special Features:

My friend and I had our brunch at the bar so I could see the drinks were made with a lot of attention. Unfortunately, the dishes looked nice but didn't taste as nice as they looked. If so, it may be on the right track. The menu is based on various American recipes from the past, including Fannie Farmer. The results are surprisingly good. Our party of four found all the courses more than acceptable, and a number were exceptional. The oysters and scallops are good bets. A plate of cured hams for the table made a great start.I would recommend this to a friend.

Our server was very, very polite and very ineffective, forgetting three things during the meal - the cocktails, which arrived after the first course, the vegetable with one entree and the sauce with another. The food was OK, but the salad was swimming in dressing. In total it was disappointing, especially after having such expectations.

For us, the basket of breads was blah - the biscuits were flat, not flaky; the corn muffin needed jalapeno or bacon; and the white bread was just that. Don't know what the intention of the jam-butter combination was but perhaps a trio of jams with butter, including Hoppin' John or another spicy one, might be more interesting. The peanut soup, while nice, was a little flat - perhaps a touch of heat is needed. The chicken live pate was too cold, just out of the fridge, so lacked a lot of taste; the presentation was fine, however. The chicken pot pie had good ingredients but was bland - it needed a pinch of salt and an herb, perhaps sage.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

Food selections are numerous albeit this is not your typical 'starter-main-dessert' kind of place. Lots of options to mix and match but make sure that is what you are looking for. We shared grilled oysters which were terrific, then soup/salad and then a 'to follow' course as our main. Portions are substantial. Dessert is fun and fresh. My only complaint here is the service. There were either three people hovering over our table ready to whisk away our plates at the last mouthful --or no one in sight! Some staff had difficulty with simple requests: 'fresh lemons' or 'the wine list'. I am hopeful this will work it self out as the staff settles in after the opening.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

The food was all good, but pretty much every dish was good but not great. Everything had some competent missing, and the quality of the food just did not match the price. I'd go back if I wasn't paying, but would much prefer to go somewhere else.

I had the $16 She Crab Soup which was very very small and not at all what the server had explained. The soft shell crab sandwich was good, but the accompanying potato chips (no fries at this place!) were disappointing with a strange greasy taste and too much black pepper. There is no kids menu - another huge disappointment. Kids shouldn't have to pay $19 for a burger! It's new, and hopefully some things will change.Special Features:

We loved all the food, and the service was fantastic! Delicious mini waffles, blueberries & ice cream for me and chicken liver pate for my husband as first course. Entrees were the fried chicken & "slaw" - crunchiest chicken ever. Ate only the breast and brought the rest home for later. Also had the shrimp & grits - not to my taste, but my husband loved it. Mutton was cold and had more fat than meat. Potatoes were rock hard raw, ugh! But 4 oysters served with it were great! The lobster roll bread was good, buttery and warm. But the lobster filling was runny and lacked flavor. No celery, just lots of Mayonnaise. Our waiter was non existent. He never came by to ask how the food was and he ignored us when we tried to get his attention. The noise was deafening so perhaps he was just shell shocked. He didn't comment when he saw all of the food that was left on our plates as it was inedible. Long waits between courses. Overall a very poor dining experience.

The Caesar salad was good, most filling with large shavings of Parmesan, and anchovies, but just a salad. The beef in the steak tartar was made table side and a nice production but the beef was too bulky. Where were the capers? It was served with rolls with a slightly sweet flavor, too rich, which did not mix well. The wine list was nice, though pricy. The noise level was extremely high, but not a surprise from reading others reviews. Would I go back? No. I can say I've been there if I wanted to be an elitist, but I would rather go for the delicious food, not the reputation of the chef's past.Special Features:

I also had the fried chicken with "cole slaw". Though it was Restaurant Week, we stuck with the standard menu because our party of 4 wanted to try several different things. America Eats offers one of the most complete Restaurant Week menus, with a good selection of entrees, in contrast to many restaurants who offer a stingy, limited selection which undermines the point of Restaurant Week to draw in first-time customers and entice them to return. The drinks were strong and delicious - I loved my Green Acres w/ vodka, cucumber and grapefruit. Every dish we picked was a winner - oysters, steak tartare, Waldorf salad, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, blackened scallops, braised short ribs - and our server was BOSS. Overall the good was very good. I cannot say it was outstanding and memorable but it was very good and different that more places. We started with the Steak Tartar and it was prepared tableside which was unique but the overall flavor was not exciting. For the entrées, we have the Short Ribs and the Chicken Pot Pie. Both were hefty portions and very tasty. We will be back to try some of the other items but it is not a "must return" to on our list.Special Features:

The atmosphere was quiet since we were the only ones in that room, and the service was excellent. We chose to eat the restaurant week menu, which was limited in scope but excellent. We chose the restaurant week menu and everything was great, the Caesar salad was outstanding, as was the pot pie and blue cheese burger. The chocolate cake and carrot cake were good but nothing special. The cocktails were top drawer. It is a fun and warm atmosphere but the acoustics are bad.....it is really loud. Beet salad was just a pile of greens with a few tiny cut up beets and way too much syrupy dressing. It was restaurant week and I thought maybe they could just not handle the crowd, which is no excuse. Staff all quite pleasant.

We hoped Jose Andres new restaurant would live up to his reputation and we were not disappointed. The roomy seating arrangements and open kitchen made for a most welcoming ambiance. And that "twist " on classic American cuisine was artfully and deliciously carried out. We shared the canned salmon - Mac and cheese - lobster roll and chicken pot pie and savored every bite. Would have liked a bit more of that tasty mustard which I assume was house made. The carrot cake and chocolate cake were ordinary. Would have liked to try other desserts. The service needs work, but since the restaurant has only been opened for a short time, I can understand they are still learning. Before our appetizers were finished they came with the main courses. We had to rush eating our appetizers to finish. We thoght maybe they were trying to rush us out to seat more people, but that could not have been the case as people left, the tables were not being re-occupied. This was a Monday night. We ordered cocktails, but were in no rush to order dinner as we hate to have the food arrive before we have finished our cocktail.Special Features:

He really seemed not to know a lot of basic stuff, like people want their bread right away. Service was a little slow but most importantly, the food was mostly disappointing. My eggs "benedick" were virtually tasteless; the hollandaise definitely had no lemon in it and probably no butter and the fried green tomatoes were flavorless. No tartness at all. The chef should spend more time tasting the food and less time making foamy sauces which look interesting but have no flavor. In part I think is because of the food genre of the tavern. Old American food is interesting but food prep has evolved for a reason; some dishes weren't good enough to stick around. The drinks however, we're fantastic. Interesting and delicious. I'd try it again and maybe do a different assortment of food (we stayed away from the larger entrées, in favor of splitting several smaller dishes. Next time will try the ribs or pot pie or jambalaya). To recap: interesting and fun yes. Food was so so. Service was energetic (almost too energetic). This, hands down, is, the, best, food, I've had, in a long time, since I ate at a place called minibar. Does anyone know who owns minibar? Oh wait. @joseandres does.
