A groundbreaking partnership between José Andrés' ThinkFoodGroup and The Foundation for the National Archives, America Eats Tavern features award winning Chef Andrés’ unique take on traditional American classics. Celebrating native ingredients and some long forgotten regional dishes, AET takes you… through America's history one plate at a time. In addition to Lunch, Brunch and Dinner menus, AET offers a pre theater menu every night from 5-6:30 and an oyster happy hour at the bar Monday - Friday 4-6pm and again 9-close. This temporary "pop-up" restaurant opened as an extension of the National Archives exhibit “What’s Cooking Uncle Sam" and was originally scheduled to close when the exhibit closed in January 2012, but due to the fantastic response has been extended through July 4th 2012. "The portions were incredible small and the menu was incredible expensive. The short rib was very fatty. We did the tasting menu. The shrimp and grits were delicious as was the oyster. Though I may return to the restaurant, if you want the biggest bang for your buck do not do the tasting menu."

"The menu needs a LOT of explaining and this is a restaurant for history buffs or any high schoolers looking to refresh for the AP US History exam. Thankfully our waitress was great with answering our questions. The restaurant is also very amenable to people who have dietary restrictions and the chef went out of his way to re-create any dish on the menu. Pretty noisy restaurant, overall great experience, took longer than they said it would to get seated and took a bit longer to get our food ... it's a very busy restaurant."

"Great food, but very pricey. Many of the appetizers hovered around the $15 mark. The servers were very knowledgeable, which is important considering the menu provides you with a lot of information on the history of each dish, but comes up short on letting you know what's actually in them."

"The food was great, what you would expect from Jose Andres. We ordered the hot dog, the Steak Hamburg Style, Waffles, Oyster Po Boy and a salad. Every single person in our group said they really liked their food. I had a Pisco Punch and would give it a 3.5 out 5.

The service was ok at the beginning but got better after we ordered our meals. The manager was always around helping and making sure we were taken care of. We had 3 kids in our group but the table we got was perfect.

One thing to keep in mind, the portions are not very big, more like sliders."

"The food was great! However, we had a reservation sat down promptly, yet waited about 20 minutes to get offered drinks. We alloted approximately 3 hours for our tasting, it took upwards of 30+ minutes to order our dinner. The wait invariably made us late for our next engageent. We had to leave early and miss the dessert course."

"I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately did not. From the start, the host wasn't very nice and kept us waiting beyond the time of our reservation. The food was just OK. Shrimp and grits was the best thing we ordered. Clambake only included six clams, and pickled oysters was only four small oysters - both were very briny (which I don't like but my husband did). Similarly, the chicken wings only came with four wings, which were good but not spectacular. If you order the beet salad, however, there is a WHOLE plateful of beets. Dessert was the highlight and ALMOST made up for the rest of the meal. Vermont Sugar on Snow is so unique and very Jose Andres. The Key Lime pie deconstructed was also exceptional."

"Food amazing. Service was not phenominal, but not too bad to complain.Food more than made up for any deficiencies.
Normally, all these clef's food climax at appetizers or "small plate," but entrees were amazing. Seriously...Amazing. Small portions. Everything ordered was delicious. Shrimp etouffee, crab cakes, lobster newburg, ant braised short rib.

No chocolate on dessert menu."
