A word from Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar opened in 2009, reviving the former Amen name of Cumberland Street and restoring this historic corner. The new renovation stays true to the beauty of the original 1800's architecture while creating a comfortable atmosphere for contemporary life.

Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.

The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.

We are open for lunch and dinner. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted as well.

Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food and service. Seafood fresh and delicious."

  • "Amen rocks! I had the most absolute best Bloody Mary ever! My fish was amazing and light, such great flavors! The the interior of this place is fantastic as most hot restaurants are in charleston ;) and the price won't kill the wallet for the quality you receive! Love it and will defiantly go back even if it's just for a quick Bloody Mary at the bar."

  • "A new favorite in charleston! The service was a little slow but I think our waitress had a larger section than average. The wait allowed us time to catch up with our guests, though. Enjoyed everything we ordered."

  • "In a city full of all kinds of food and restaurants, Amen Street did NOT disappoint. And because it is right in the middle of all the cruise line crowds, we were a bit hesitant to go....but we were really really surprised . Great selection of seafood, drinks were perfect, noise level wasn't too loud that we couldn't hear each other talk (even with the FIFA games on the tv), it was just a great experience!"

  • "We always make sure Amen is on the list when we are in town. Always great food, drinks and service!"

  • "I visited Amen Street more than a year ago and was completely sold so i made it a must for my recent trip to charleston! The service was great, but the meal was sub-par due to lack of flavor and seasoning and Amen Street is probably off my 'must' list for my next trip to Charleston - a city with many fantastic food options with better flavors!"

  • "This was a great seafood place and very easy to get to from our hotel. Even though no one in our party like oysters, we easily found many great items to choose from on the menu."

  • "A table was ready for us when we arrived so that was good. Unfortunately, we were sat in the back of the restaurant against the wall. The entire back wall was a bench seat, 5 tables of 2 people were set against this wall with a chair pulled up on the opposite side. It was so crowded in between these 5 tables that you could barely get in to get to the bench seat. We could not even carry on a conversation at our own table because the tables on each side were so close and those people were talking so loud. The person at the table beside us had to get up to go to the restroom was knocking things off our table and his. The food was disappointing as well. My dinner portion shrimp and grits was smaller than an appetizer size and too salty."

  • "We enjoyed the food; the restaurant is loud which made it difficult to have a conversation. I would recommend but the prices in the restaurant are very different than those on their website. When I look at the prices on the dinner menu they are really very very reasonable ie 14.95 for shrimp and grits, at the restaurant it is really 21.95. Basically all of the meals are between $20 and $30 versus the $10 to $15 on the website. I understand the prices I just wish there website was accurate it would have influenced my decision"

  • "Danielle was amazing & the food was terrific as usual. Our favorite place in Charleston!"

  • "Always enjoy Amen, fun to bring out of state guests!!"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "The food was amazing but the seating in the back of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. You are seated right next to the other tables and it is very difficult to have a conversation."

  • "Shrimp and Grits were excellent. My wife said the Po Boy Shrimp was one of the best meals of her trip in Charleston! Service was quick and friendly."

  • "With our first time there, lunch was very good. My 103 yr old mother enjoyed herself very much so. We wished that dinner could have been served earlier, or had the choice of either, so we could really enjoy ourselves. The portions we ate filled us all, with no room for dessert. Our waitress was very helpful and courteous, and was not too far from our beckoned call. We shall return."

  • "We were in town for only one night and saw this great place and made reservations. I had seen on the menu the tuna tacos and just had to have them! Had the dozen oysters to start we shared, they were a little pricey but were good! the desert was wonderful! Would recommend for sure to anyone in Charleston, fun cute place to hang looked like many locals were there too!"

  • "I've been to Amen Street numerous times and the meal has always been on point! Services is prompt, staff is very knowledgeable about all the types of oysters they have. Food is delicious!! I have to say though, I had never had a blood mary from Amen until last night and it will probably be the only thing i will drink from now on!! Sooo delicious with their house made bloody mary mix! I loved it! We sat in the back of the restaurant (table for two) and chatted with our neighbors on either side of us! Makes for an interesting meal to say the least. I love Amen Street and as a concierge downtown, I always send my guests here. They always love it just as I do. I will be back again soon of course!"

  • "Outstanding service. Lively atmosphere. Seated promptly at reserved time. The fish was excellent-- had the wreck fish. The warm hush puppies with local honey are a must."

  • "Food was ok, service was ok, ambience just ok. The beverage selections are lacking. Wouldn't go back."

  • "Oysters and shrimp were very fresh - loved the shrimp and grits!"

  • "Amen was delicious. Food was great, and fresh, excellent drink choices as well. Definitely worth eating here when visiting Charleston, and reasonably priced for Charleston."

  • "The food at Amen St. is fabulous! Probably the best place to eat that we visited for our long weekend--it was so good, we ate there twice!"
    Dined on 10/14/2013
  • "Amen Street has to be our favorite establishment in Charleston, as we make sure to eat there at least once during our annual trips. Their lobster risotto is to die for, as are their mussels and baked oysters. Amen Street has a variety of oysters from all of the different coasts. The wine and cocktail lists will not disappoint either!"

  • "Nothing exceptional about this restaurant. Food so-so. Atmosphere OK. Service so-so. They seem to imitate the upper scale establishments but without success."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "Shrimp & grits very unique. Oyster choices excellent."
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "We had the Louisiana sourced raw oysters and they were quite good and affordable as well. Staff was very nice. A bit noisy. I wouldn't make it a romantic dinner but very good besides that."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "The oysters were fabulous! That's what we were interested in and we were not disappointed! The swordfish was sooo good! "
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "We ordered the shrimp and grits and crab cakes. The crab cakes were cold and very thick with little crab. The shrimp and grits were also cold and way too sweet. The flavor was bizarre. The appetizers were good..calamari was flavorful and different. Service was Excellent but the food DID NOT match the level of service and price point. "
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "The arugula and beet salad was worse than any I've ever had or made. But my greens salad was good. Not a foodie destination. Oysters were decent, pretty runny. "
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Great appetizers and oysters. Entrees were disappointing."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Too much sea salt on the tuna carpaccio appetizer, no attention paid by server to whether or not everything was okay with the food - had to flag him down for fresh ground pepper, fish more cooked than I wanted, but water glass was filled and when I was ready for a 2nd glass of wine it was offered. I've had better meals and service there, but worse service too. I guess it's hit or miss unfortunately with dinner service, but happy hour at the bar is usually good."

  • "Sat at the bar, people watching and eating Oysters. Very cold beer, friendly staff. Then were seated at our table. There were 3 of us and just started passing our plates around. Everything was very good. Great start to a great weekend."

  • "We had another great experience at Amen Street last week. The food was outstanding (Seared Scallops), delicious raw oysters and excellent service from our server Melissa. We have made this restaurant a definite stop each time we visit the city."
    Dined on 5/14/2014
  • "Upon checking in, my wife and I were ushered to a back room table for two that was so close to another table that when she squirted lemon in her water, it hit me too. The tables were wobbly and they were out of dinner items I wanted to order. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the sauce left a lot to be desired - namely taste. We went here for all the recommendations, but after visiting, we decided it was Remarkably Unremarkable. Better to go to Hank's Seafood."

  • "Absolutely fantastic food! Best fried green tomatoes and raw fish in town!"

  • "Took my Mom and Stepdad (tourists from VA) and girlfriend to Amen friday night. it was somewhat a roll of the dice as i had never been there before but I'm glad we went. Fried green tomatoes, shrimp corn dogs and the texas raw oysters were all awesome. i had the seared scallops as an entree and was very impressed. the lavender margarita was interesting as well. good service, well decorated, pricing may be a little steep but it's downtown Charleston after all... I'll definitely return"

  • "When I'm looking for a dozen oysters and a good selection of beer I first think of Amen St. Location close to the theaters in downtown doesn't hurt either. Service is always good and if you sit in the bar area it is energetic! "
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "The restaurant has an easy, casual atmosphere. I was greeted and seated quickly in a very comfortable banquette with a good view of downtown Charleston. The she crab soup came quickly and was rich and very full flavored, the sherry was the perfect finish. The pan seared Red Drum was served over a corn chowder with smoked bacon. The fish was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The smoked bacon in the chowder was a great compliment to the fish without being overwhelming. I finished the meal with the seasonal berry bread pudding. The desert was sweet without being dense I HIGHLY recommend Amen Street Fish and Raw Bar as part of anyone's Charleston experience."

  • "We enjoyed a great seafood meal. Good for oyster lovers!"

  • "My oyster poboy was served on what appeared to be a hot dog bun. Oysters were too thickly battered and had little oyster flavor. "
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "Went for the oysters and they were very good. Our problem was this. When we arrived the place was not full by any means. The waiter took us to a small table for two that has a bench which we don't like. I asked to have one of the larger tables but we were told he had to save those for parties of 4 so we took the smaller table. While we were there they proceeded to fill 3 of the larger tables with groups of 2. This was ridiculous, and the fact that we had requested to sit at one of those tables and refused was insulting . NOT a good move by this restaurant as it left us with the feeling that there are plenty of restaurants out there and we may not be back to this one for awhile because of the way we were treated. "
