A word from Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar opened in 2009, reviving the former Amen name of Cumberland Street and restoring this historic corner. The new renovation stays true to the beauty of the original 1800's architecture while creating a comfortable atmosphere for contemporary life.

Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.

The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.

We are open for lunch and dinner. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted as well.

Went here for restaurant week. Looked over the menu beforehand and decided against it however mentioned my comments to a friend who has been to Amen and convinced me to try it. Glad I did but probably won't be going back. Atmosphere was kool and I liked the fact even though it was only 2 of us eating we were seated in a booth instead of a 2 top table. The booth was fairly large at that which again was a nice surprise. I would recommend going if you've never been just for the atmosphere alone.

After a recommendation from a local resident, we visited Amen Street Fish for lunch. The setting was laid-back Charleston, the food was excellent, and our server Frances was great! Next time we're in town, we'll be at Amen Street!

Had dinner at Amen recently. Our booth near the bar was comfortable. The bar was very lively and the restaurant packed on a weekday evening. The crab soup was delicious. I enjoyed the grilled sea scallops (3) and had difficulty finishing it. My dining partner had swordfish, thick and moist. Service was quick and efficient. A very nice evening.

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time with a small group of friends for Charleston Restaurant Week, and now I'm wondering what took me so long to give this establishment a try! The food was delicious, our server (Michael) was knowledgeable and attentive, and the ambiance was warm and pleasant. All of the food was terrific, but the spicy corn and shrimp chowder, the rock shrimp risotto, and the chocolate/caramel cheesecake received extra kudos from the table. We will definitely return!

So this was our 2nd time at Amen and something was off. The restaurant wasn't crowded but you would have thought they were overbooked the way things were operating. The service was slow but the server was pleasant. Some of the food was not overly hot....warm at best. The bar messed up our drinks too. We couldn't figure out what was going on. Our first experience was much better. Hope this isn't a downward trend?!?!

Restaurant week 2014. Sadly, none of their menu items were on the restaurant week menu. I suppose I am to assume the quality of preparation continues over rather than trying what they are in business for. The hostess station is very polite. The bartenders are friendly and make a good drink. If it was in another location I might go more frequently. There are just so many Charleston amazing restaurants on that street that make it hard to pass by to get to Amen.

My date and I took advantage of the Charleston Restaurant Week and had a good time. The food, ambiance, and service were very good but the noise level was a little high than I had expected it to be. We will go back again but maybe try an earlier time to see if the noise level is better.

We went to Amen during restaurant week since we had always wanted to try it. In a town filled with wonderful restaurants this one is just "ok ." It is very noisy. We also asked to sub one of the vegetables since my husband won't eat green beans. We would have been happy to pay an up charge. The answer was no substitutions. We won't be coming back

More of a bar with food. Appetizer chowder was very good but the crab cake entree was mushy, gummy and an unappetizing grey. Very little taste. Pan seared salmon on a bed of peppers and butternut squash was good. Dessert was supposedly key lime pie but had no flavor whatsoever, like they forgot the lime juice. Interior is fairly stark but not unpleasant. We had a very attentive waitress who was one of the high points of the evening.

First time dining at Amen, generous with the wine, very good appetizers of Shrimp 'dogs' and calamari, oysters were good too. My friend had the scallops with pork belly and it was delicious. The fried seafood platter was a large serving. the swordfish I had was a tad overcooked but the broth was very flavorful. the lobster and shrimp risotto was very good. Very enjoyable evening. We will eat there again when visiting Charleston.

We found Amen Street as we walked through Charleston. We were able to snag a reservation for later in the day and excited to try it. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and then promptly ignored while other tables in our area were served and cleaned. Eventually a manager came by and noticed our situation, just as we were about to seek him out. He did offer a free cocktail which was nice. However we found it difficult to get past the bad first impression. After the incident our waitress was attentive enough, but still slow with drinks. The food was good - delicious fresh, baked and fried oysters. We say go for the food, but be aware of our frustrating service experience.

My wife and I just visited Charleston for the first time.We ate at Amen Street for our Friday night dinner. The atmosphere was perfect for a young couple with plenty of good energy. We ordered three appetizers -baked oysters, blackened shrimp and mussels - because we weren't too hungry for a large entree. All three where fantastic with service to boot! We will return here our next Charleston visit.

We tried Amen on a Tuesday night. Here's my rating: Main course and appetizers top notch---I'd particularly recommend the seviche. Desserts and drinks very good, but not outstanding. The place was a little noisy, but we could still hear across the table. The wait staff was attentive. All-in-all, a satisfying experience. I'd definitely go back.

Absolutely delicious! I had the berry salad and the pan-roasted grouper with a side of creamed corn. It was heavenly. I probably could have licked the bowl. My mom had the fried seafood platter and she said it was the best she'd had. Again, she loved the creamed corn. I really can't say enough good things about it. We try to eat at a different restaurant every time we're in Charleston, but Amen Street is a definite repeat!

On our recent visit to Charleston we visited Amen twice. Once with a group of 8 and another time with three of us. First time sat at a table - our server was right on top of things - there right when we needed her, but not otherwise. At the bar, the same. Great service, but not too much. The people working at Amen are happy and helpful. On to the food - roasted oysters - fantastic. When I got them, everyone "stole" from me. Had to order a couple more orders. And when I went back - forget the rest of the menu, bring me roasted oysters. But back to the group - we had drinks, appetizers - all great, and fish prepared many different ways - everyone was happy. And the wine list - not too bad for a bar/seafood house. Great times.

We went to Amen as a family of four with a service dog, and felt welcome and pampered. The food was excellent, tasty and well presented. Vegetables or fruit were offered with the kids menu (doesn't happen often enough), and the grapefruit mojito is now a favourite of mine. The service was pleasant and considerate. We stopped in Charleston, on our way North. The restaurant was a little noisy with many tourists but we were seated in a corner table that afforded us a quiet place. Our food was great. although we had reservations many weeks in advance we were seated at a "row" line table of two tops, all inches apart from the next guest. this should be for walk ins only. The restaurant was not crowded. I don't care to hear every breath of the adjacent person almost at or on my table. the portions are not much on size either.
