A word from Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar opened in 2009, reviving the former Amen name of Cumberland Street and restoring this historic corner. The new renovation stays true to the beauty of the original 1800's architecture while creating a comfortable atmosphere for contemporary life.

Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.

The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.

We are open for lunch and dinner. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted as well.

Like many of the smaller restaurants with brick walls in Charleston, Amen can be noisy when it's crowded with diners. The shrimp & grits was as delicious as the best Charleston offerings. The scallops and kale with fatback was an explosion of taste. The tilefish was fresh and delicious. Great service! Great food! Perfect location!

If you don't want to be treated by the snobs at S.N.O.B., or deal with the haughtiness of Magnolias, go to Amen. Amen has a very comfortable feel. The servers are very helpful if you need guidance with the wine or beer selections. Try the calamari steak bites... a very different take on the typical fried calamari. The shrimp and grits was very good. Of the 3 places that I tried shrimp & grits in Charleston, Amen ranked # 2. (82 Queen was #1; Poogan's Porch was #3).

After relocating to Charleston 2 years ago, I've tried over 100 restaurants. I bring all of my family and friends to Amen Street to get that "Charleston feeling". I also have recommended Amen Street to many of my out of town co-workers visiting Charleston for business and everyone has repeated my enthusiasm. Service was a bit slow for a Monday night, but the meal was excellent and my son thoroughly enjoyed his first oysters on the half shell!

We were very impressed with Amen and truly had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. After a drink at the eye-catching bar and a nice chat about oysters with the schucker, we ordered a dozen of the local oysters, which were great. We then had the mussels and the seared mahi-mahi for entrees. I don't have enough superlatives to describe how good these items were. The sauce with the mussels is an explosion of flavor in your mouth that had me begging for more French bread to soak it up. Likewise with the pan seared mahi-mahi, the coconut milk based sauce along with the bock choy and mushrooms had me using a spoon to get every last drop. If we lived in Charleston, we would dine here regularly. Service was spot on as well. Great job!

On our visit to Charleston we had found Amen Street to have excellent service and food for lunch and decided to return in the evening. The second trip was a bit disappointing as far as service was concerned. We waited quite a long time for everything we ordered including the wine. When our soup finally came, I had to go looking for someone to give us some crackers. The she-crab soup is outstanding at Amen Street, but Friday nights service left a lot to be desired!

Had lunch with business guests. Other than the oysters which were good, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. Small portions of fish at top dollar are turning this place into a tourist trap and not a place locals would frequent.

A friend had recommended that we try Amen Street next time we visited Charleston and I am very thankful he did. The restaurant is very visually appealing to start and the food and drinks are even better. Everything about our meal was great. We were looking for a seafood restaurant while on business in Charleston. The industrial design of the restaurant is interesting. Dining companion and I ordered the shrimp and grits, which came with a tomato-based sauce. The dish was just okay and not very well seasoned.

Went here for restaurant week. Looked over the menu beforehand and decided against it however mentioned my comments to a friend who has been to Amen and convinced me to try it. Glad I did but probably won't be going back. Atmosphere was kool and I liked the fact even though it was only 2 of us eating we were seated in a booth instead of a 2 top table. The booth was fairly large at that which again was a nice surprise. I would recommend going if you've never been just for the atmosphere alone.

Had dinner at Amen recently. Our booth near the bar was comfortable. The bar was very lively and the restaurant packed on a weekday evening. The crab soup was delicious. I enjoyed the grilled sea scallops (3) and had difficulty finishing it. My dining partner had swordfish, thick and moist. Service was quick and efficient. A very nice evening.

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time with a small group of friends for Charleston Restaurant Week, and now I'm wondering what took me so long to give this establishment a try! The food was delicious, our server (Michael) was knowledgeable and attentive, and the ambiance was warm and pleasant. All of the food was terrific, but the spicy corn and shrimp chowder, the rock shrimp risotto, and the chocolate/caramel cheesecake received extra kudos from the table. We will definitely return!

So this was our 2nd time at Amen and something was off. The restaurant wasn't crowded but you would have thought they were overbooked the way things were operating. The service was slow but the server was pleasant. Some of the food was not overly hot....warm at best. The bar messed up our drinks too. We couldn't figure out what was going on. Our first experience was much better. Hope this isn't a downward trend?!?!

Restaurant week 2014. Sadly, none of their menu items were on the restaurant week menu. I suppose I am to assume the quality of preparation continues over rather than trying what they are in business for. The hostess station is very polite. The bartenders are friendly and make a good drink. If it was in another location I might go more frequently. There are just so many Charleston amazing restaurants on that street that make it hard to pass by to get to Amen.

We went to Amen during restaurant week since we had always wanted to try it. In a town filled with wonderful restaurants this one is just "ok ." It is very noisy. We also asked to sub one of the vegetables since my husband won't eat green beans. We would have been happy to pay an up charge. The answer was no substitutions. We won't be coming back

More of a bar with food. Appetizer chowder was very good but the crab cake entree was mushy, gummy and an unappetizing grey. Very little taste. Pan seared salmon on a bed of peppers and butternut squash was good. Dessert was supposedly key lime pie but had no flavor whatsoever, like they forgot the lime juice. Interior is fairly stark but not unpleasant. We had a very attentive waitress who was one of the high points of the evening.

First time dining at Amen, generous with the wine, very good appetizers of Shrimp 'dogs' and calamari, oysters were good too. My friend had the scallops with pork belly and it was delicious. The fried seafood platter was a large serving. the swordfish I had was a tad overcooked but the broth was very flavorful. the lobster and shrimp risotto was very good. Very enjoyable evening. We found Amen Street as we walked through Charleston. We were able to snag a reservation for later in the day and excited to try it. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and then promptly ignored while other tables in our area were served and cleaned. Eventually a manager came by and noticed our situation, just as we were about to seek him out. He did offer a free cocktail which was nice. However we found it difficult to get past the bad first impression. After the incident our waitress was attentive enough, but still slow with drinks. The food was good - delicious fresh, baked and fried oysters. We say go for the food, but be aware of our frustrating service experience.
