Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar opened in 2009, reviving the former Amen name of Cumberland Street and restoring this historic corner. The new renovation stays true to the beauty of the original 1800's architecture while creating a comfortable atmosphere for contemporary life.

Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.

The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.

We found Amen just walking around downtown Charleston about 3 years ago, and have made it a "must eat" location every time we visit the Holy City. Friendly atmosphere where you can dress up, or dress down. Oysters from all over the country. Fish is fresh daily and prepared to perfection. It is a little loud, but no more than any other restaurant of its type that I have ever visited. We invited some local seafood "snobs" to join us this trip. They had never been there, but claimed it a new favorite spot for them going forward.

Cutting edge southern faire. Loved the scallops and house-cured pork belly with heirloom carrots. Their shrimp and grits is one of the very best in town. Lots of booth seating and friendly, warm staff. Loved it.

We started with the shrimp corn dogs, which were great. I had the lobster & shrimp risotto for an entree. It was very good, although not what I expected. There was very little lobster to it and the shrimp were simply placed on top of the risotto, with the few pieces of lobster placed on the side. The others in my party had the seared scallops and the mahi mahi. Both looked good and no one had any complaints! As to the service, our waitress seemed disinterested. She never asked how anything was, seemed bothered to even have to take our order, and was just unfriendly altogether. Hopefully it was just an off night for her.

There's a reason there is always a line waiting to get in. Food is amazing! Service is quick and polite. Oysters were phenomenal! So was their beet salad. Best shrimp and grits I ever had. Best to get a table in the back where the noise level is not so loud

Made reservations for anniversary weeks in advance and requested special table. Well that didn't happen, we got front table across from the bar and had several people stand in front of us waiting for their table. Ordered the calamari steaks for appetizers and it was fantastic! Great spin on our standard. Followed up with salads which were also good, my Caesar was a little heavy on the garlic but was good. Entrees we were disappointing. My wife ordered the lobster/shrimp risotto, shrimp overcooked and risotto was under cooked. I had a oysters as my entrée. While they were good, mignonette was fabulous, I was disappointed that I paid $27 a dozen and several had pieces of shells and one even had a crab. Not expected for the money!

This was our first experience at amens and I would never go back! We started with calamari and fried oyster appetizers. They were tastey but we're room temperature at best. Our waitress was extremely slow and not that accommodating. Our four dinners , fish tacos, scallops ,shrimp and grits, and crab sandwich were also room temperature or I have to say almost cold. The scallops (3) for 26$ were not of high quality, rubbery. ! I sent my scallop plate back and the manager came to table to inquire about our dinners. After explaining how everything was cold and slow, he reluctantly took it off the bill. Really an expensive meal for bad food . Never would recommend this restuarant to anyone.

The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I have ever had, the local oysters were so good I wanted to order more, and the seared swordfish was so delicious I asked for a spoon to eat the broth. The only set back was the slow service and my table wasn't ready when I arrived with a reservation. I was looking right at it for 15 minutes before they finally put silver ware on it and told us we could sit there.

I brought two out of town friends here, mainly because of the seafood focus. The food was excellent, albeit a little pricey for the portion sizes of one of our meals (the "Flash in the Pan"). The service also was excellent, and the waiter was very knowledgeable. The restaurant was a little loud, but the acoustics were such that you could hear your companions across the table without much effort. I would highly recommend.

Like many of the smaller restaurants with brick walls in Charleston, Amen can be noisy when it's crowded with diners. The shrimp & grits was as delicious as the best Charleston offerings. The scallops and kale with fatback was an explosion of taste. The tilefish was fresh and delicious. Great service! Great food! Perfect location!

Had a great, quiet dinner here with my husband. My snapper was cooked perfectly, and served over a delicious corn mixture. It was fabulous and probably the best meal I had in Charleston that week. My husband had the risotto, which he loved. The meal was very reasonably priced, compared to other restaurants in the area, too!

If you don't want to be treated by the snobs at S.N.O.B., or deal with the haughtiness of Magnolias, go to Amen. Amen has a very comfortable feel. The servers are very helpful if you need guidance with the wine or beer selections. Try the calamari steak bites... a very different take on the typical fried calamari. The shrimp and grits was very good. Of the 3 places that I tried shrimp & grits in Charleston, Amen ranked # 2. (82 Queen was #1; Poogan's Porch was #3).

After relocating to Charleston 2 years ago, I've tried over 100 restaurants. I bring all of my family and friends to Amen Street to get that "Charleston feeling". I also have recommended Amen Street to many of my out of town co-workers visiting Charleston for business and everyone has repeated my enthusiasm. Service was a bit slow for a Monday night, but the meal was excellent and my son thoroughly enjoyed his first oysters on the half shell!

We were very impressed with Amen and truly had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. After a drink at the eye-catching bar and a nice chat about oysters with the schucker, we ordered a dozen of the local oysters, which were great. We then had the mussels and the seared mahi-mahi for entrees. I don't have enough superlatives to describe how good these items were. The sauce with the mussels is an explosion of flavor in your mouth that had me begging for more French bread to soak it up. Likewise with the pan seared mahi-mahi, the coconut milk based sauce along with the bock choy and mushrooms had me using a spoon to get every last drop. If we lived in Charleston, we would dine here regularly. Service was spot on as well. Great job!

On our visit to Charleston we had found Amen Street to have excellent service and food for lunch and decided to return in the evening. The second trip was a bit disappointing as far as service was concerned. We waited quite a long time for everything we ordered including the wine. When our soup finally came, I had to go looking for someone to give us some crackers. The she-crab soup is outstanding at Amen Street, but Friday nights service left a lot to be desired!

Went here for restaurant week. Looked over the menu beforehand and decided against it however mentioned my comments to a friend who has been to Amen and convinced me to try it. Glad I did but probably won't be going back. Atmosphere was kool and I liked the fact even though it was only 2 of us eating we were seated in a booth instead of a 2 top table. The booth was fairly large at that which again was a nice surprise. I would recommend going if you've never been just for the atmosphere alone.
