Diner Reviews
  • "Made a reservation late for Saturday night dinner. Arrived 15 minutes early. Although the place was bustling, they happily accommodated us. The food was great and the service was friendly and impeccable!"

  • "I went to Amelie hoping for a great experience and was bitterly disappointed. We ordered the Goat cheese ball, french onion soup, mussels, fries, salad and salmon (main course). The only tasty thing about this selection was the goat cheese ball with caramelized onions. The fries were OK, the mussels were nothing special, the salad was bland, the soup was too salty and the salmon was just weird. I was especially disappointed with the salmon because the crusting was a weird tasting mustard mix with lots of vinegar and bread crumbs. It was not fully cooked, and I believe I should have been asked whether I want it fully cooked. The place was loud, lots of college students and waiter was very casual. I expected more based on prior reviews."

  • "The filet mignon with fois gras was the best thing I've eaten in months. I seriously can't stop thinking about it. Also the cheese selection is great. We had a bleu d'auvergne cheese that was incredible. Great service, and the happy hour wine flights are a good deal."

  • "Found this place on yelp. Place lived up to expectations. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Excellent cheese and wine list."

  • "There's a bit of a Euro-disco vibe from interior design to staff. Could be fun for a spontaneous night. I made the mistake of planning a friend's surprise birthday party here (7 ppl). We were seated 45 min after the reservation time, and the birthday girl had to wait. The manager had confirmed on the phone and in person that he would have a table ready for this bday party, but I realized that he doesn't know how to plan the turn of tables in a dining room. The manager was a talker... His false reassurances that we would be seated soon became annoying. Poor service aside, the food/wine is good, and I think this would be a nice spot to drop in casually if you're with 2-4 ppl. This is an uncomfortable space for parties larger than 4."

  • "Everybody's on the tapas bandwagon! This is really a French bistro, but also has charcuterie selections (various cheeses and meats) as small plates. And so they bill themselves as a tapas place: okay...why not? Food is solid, as are the wine selections, and the prices are reasonable. The tables are too small, though, which gets kind of annoying when you have multiple plates on them."

  • "Great service, extensive wine by the glass list, and delicious food. The happy hour wine special can't be beat. Amelie is sure to please whomever you're imbibing with!"

  • "The food (especially the cheese) is unbelievable. The drinks are phenomenally paired and the ambiance is like no other. No qualms, this is a classic village dining experience and worth every penny. Incredible value and you leave feeling full with your palette completely satisfied filling the range you would expect from the highest brow of dining experiences."

  • "This was not that busy and I think probably busier later on. The food was freshly cooked and tasted good. The waiters were friendly and nice. Great casual place to go. I would like to go in the evening one of these days. PS The Ladies restroom was nice (I know weird thing to say but it surprised me)."

  • "Horrific service. I was there on a Saturday evening. Our waitress never checked on us, friends were missing water glasses, my friend's food was not what she ordered (remedied later), it took ages to get our check because the waitress had clocked out after we received our food. It's too bad, really, because my meal was delicious. I hope the bad service was a fluke."

  • "We met at Amelie last year and then celebrated our 1st anniversary there this week. The manager and wait staff was so generous and surprised us with a wonderful dessert to accompany our bottle of wine. The ambience was wonderful and we had an amazing night. Strongly recommend."

  • "They told us to eat at the bar when we had a reservation and had been waiting for a table for 45 min. When we mentioned there was an open table in the back, they changed their tone and seated us. Other than being disorganized, one of the two working there was quite rude. My girlfriend ordered eggs, the waiter asked if she'd like them soft and she affirmed. After another 45 minutes, the eggs came dry and overcooked. My escargot was ok but not particularly notable."

  • "Great little spot for a laidback but cozy evening. Fills up fast, but reservations are pretty easy to come by last-minute if you have plan ahead just a little. Happy hour menu includes a few wines as well as small plates -- great for those who don't like to drink on an empty stomach. Service is very warm and friendly."

  • "A good time with a great ambiance. The wine was great and the owner was friendly. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like I was back in Paris (something I was hoping for my birthday) but it was great none the less."

  • "I came here for brunch with a group of 6 after having a very good experience for dinner here last year. We were allowed to sit immediately (great since we always seem to show up +/- 5-10 minutes for our reservation as a group), and had a spacious booth in the back. The brunch options were great and we also had access to the cheese and wine lists. I had a ratatouille and Parmesan omelette and everyone else at the table also enjoyed their food. Surprisingly cheap with a bottle of wine shared with the table. I'd definitely come back!"

  • "We didn't eat here, just came for drinks. The service was pretty good, although sometimes a little slow but it was New Year's and everyone was drinking pretty quickly it seemed! The decor was cool and it was a fun spot to spend NYE."

  • "My friends and I were looking to have a nice dinner out, and wanted french food. We live in the area but somehow hadn't yet stumbled on Amelie. The food was outstanding and the selection of wines impressive, but the best part of the experience was the service. We had an absolute blast with our servers and will definitely be returning! P.S. Love the check presentation— they bring it to you in a french novel. Great touch!"

  • "I was so happy to find this type of place in the neighborhood. The decor is sort of 70s funky but the food is a very high standard -- they have wonderful duck dishes; the mussels in a sauce of celery, white wine and creme fraiche are out of this world. I've tried several things on the menu and it doesn't disappoint. The scene is popular but not obnoxious and always has an eclectic group of people. I also appreciate the staff who are incredibly friendly and are committed to making it a good experience."

  • "Good food, interesting decor. A jazz trio was playing. Good options for non meat eaters. Waiter (owner?) Was helpful with many selections. I recommend their trout dish."

  • "We happened upon Amelie because it was across the street from our hotel. Turns out it was a highlight of our trip to NYC. Staff was great, food was excellent (we sampled their crostini, the smoked salmon salad, a duck special, the trout dish, and chocolate mousse), and the wine we selected was both affordable and tasty. I don't order salad normally but the smoked salmon and arugula was great. The sauce on the duck was complex and flavourful and the duck itself was cooked to perfection. It's a nice room - a bit louder than we would normally pick but great energy and nicely designed. They have a great larger table in the back for bigger groups. I only hope I have a chance to come back next time I'm in NYC."

  • "We looked forward this but left perplexed. Amalie Salade had so many ingredients it had no taste theme. Same with the beet salad that had so much blue cheese it could be two appetizers. The cheese plates were nice, but then, they were just slab cuts of cheese with toasted bread on the side and a little fig sauce and honey. The waiter brought 1 plate each to people who ordered 2 things but none to those who ordered 1, so they had to watch us eat until asked the waiter to bring our friends some food too. Instead of apologies, we got an excuse. Ordered dates stuffed with cheese but they brought a different cheese item, so had to wait for the correct dish, whose excess cheese masked the delicate taste of dates. Not returning here."

  • "This place has a unique ambiance, great food, great people serving you, and I would enjoy visiting the restaurant again sometime. I feel it is a good sized restaurant for tables of two to four, has a moderate to loud noise level, and again fantastic food/drinks/wind menu. It may be a little cramped at tables along the back middle portion of the restaurant but the bar and some of the larger tables would suit a couple or group very well. Give this place a try and I'm sure you'll be pleased."

  • "I celebrated my 30th birthday here this Saturday with my close girlfriends. There were eight of us and we were given a private table in the back. If you are going with around the same amount of people, I would definitely recommend asking for the back table. Cheese was fabulous, as were the mussels and the flatbread was amazing!"

  • "I'm not an expert with French food, but I found the food to be American French. We had pork and duck leg for entree, and they were good, but the sides were so-so. There were indeed a great selection for wine by glass with reasonable price. I would recommend this place for a decent wine treat without breaking your wallet."

  • "Had 10:30 RSVP for 4 on a Sat. night....Place was full and energetic. The host was cool. We were given complimentary champagne while we waited for our seats. We ordered some great wine as well. The waiter was from Catalunya and was very nice, knowledgeable, funny, attentive and had a great voice (sang happy bday). The food was great. Not one complaint. We came here for the food and and it did not disappoint. We ordered 12 Dishes and all you heard at our table all night was Mmmmmmm. The music was awesome.....at one point I said "are we listening to Dr Dre in a French wine bar!!!" I will be returning 100% without a doubt."

  • "First time experience at Amelie, and I was expecting a more traditional wine bar/brasserie experience. The food and service were good. However the tables were the smallest I have ever seen. Two of us had to hold our silverware in out hands while they cleared the plates from our appetizers. The food and drinks did not fit on the table, and the tables were so close together, we kept bumping arms of the people on either side of us. The lighting was too low to read the menu without a smart phone to light the way, The setup would be fine for people sampling their enormous selection of wines, and maybe having a small plate of two from their extensive cheese and charcuterie list, but I would not recommend going there for a serious meal."
