Diner Reviews
  • "Love coming here for a late night quick bite, wine, and perfect ambiance. Was really happy to have made a reservation in advance because it can get a bit crowded!"

  • "Nice ambiance, good service, food but wayyyy to noisy."

  • "My husband and I decided to try this place after reading rave reviews. The reviews of this place were spot on! We arrived for happy hour right when the restaurant opened and were seated immediately. There are some wonderful happy hour specials as well as wine flights, which is a selection of 3 glasses of wine for just $10.00 during happy hour. The various small plates of appetizers are amazing. One simply must try the marinated olives, as well as the salami and cheese platter, which is not to be missed. It is served with rustic bread slices and pairs beautifully with the wine. We loved this place so much that we returned one more night before our flight home. We cannot wait to go back there, and we highly recommend a visit while in SF"

  • "Couldn't have picked a better spot. Came with a few of my friends for a birthday and the staff was spot on with their service. "

  • "While a bit small, Amelie is still my go to wine bar in all of San Francisco! Great ambiance, absolutely outstanding staff, and an overall amazing vibe. There 3 glass $10 happy hour can't be beat, and the food is to die for!"

  • "The service and staff were exceptional. They all love what they do and it shows in how they treat the customer. "

  • "the wine list is impressive and very tasty, and the staff knows well their list. That being said, my friends and I were looking for a spot that would have been a bit less noisy to be able to have a smooth conversation, but the music was too loud to do so. It is great for larger groups in this sense, and I highly recommend it, say, for a drink after work, but if you searching for something more intimate and romantic, quiet, well this spot makes it difficult to share a conversation."

  • "Great date spot on a Sunday night! Good wine selection, food was ok, and fun live music after 6:30 or so. Good times!"

  • "Good food but I would never return because of the noise level. Some groups in the restaurant were actually screaming. It was an unpleasant experience which is a shame because the service and food were good."

  • "This is my absolute favorite place in the city for nice wine, great service and some yummy French tapas! Did I mention the best service and great atmosphere :)"

  • "Awesome spot with great service (as always). They treat you like family there. Bring a date!"

  • "Hyper noisy but otherwise very enjoyable. Very good small plates. Excellent, wine knowledgable servers and excellent service. Great list, maybe the best in SF, of wines by the glass."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "Very busy. Great food, great wine list. Very understaffed. I would defiantly recommend this place but have patience!"
    Dined on 2/11/2014
  • "A nice time at Amelie after a show. The wine list is interesting with some unusual wines and the flight selection was great. We had the duck and the ravioles. It was very warm and tasty. The bread was good and service very good. Everybody was friendly. They also have a libe band but it is not too loud. It is a wine bar with some nice plates for an enjoyable moment. Price is right and food is good. Will be back!"

  • "Cool ambiance and great wine list. Got a reservation and sat toward the back of the restaurant. Generous pours and had a couple tapas that were great"

  • "This was a somewhat blind adventure. I saw it was a wine bar, and I am a wine guy, so I did not really look at the food menu. First, this is a place for young folks. I think we were the only patrons over 40, and 90% were less than 30. It is VERY loud, so that a simple conversation is close to impossible. Then there was the food. It turns out that there are really no main courses. What there is I would call rustic. You can order plates of cheeses, or cured meats, or olives, or Mediterranean dips. We ordered the leg of duck, which was overcooked, and quiche Lorraine, which was tasty, but burned on one side. There are some good wines on the menu, but you will need to order by the glass or bottle."

  • "Amelie provides a huge selection of wine that you can choose and put together a wine flight of your own. Mix and match between red, white, sparkling wine etc ... which is really a great way for you to taste wine from a broad spectrum. I had the fish platter which requires more thought in assembling them. There are 3 different kinds but seems like they are all made of the same type of fish: sardines/anchovies, all very heavy in texture and taste."

  • "I love this bar. The food is excellent, the wine list has a great selection, the ambiance is fun. I highly recommend it."

  • "Come early for the wine flight specials such a good deal."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a location to have some wine and food and this place seemed to have gotten good reviews. We were very pleased and will definitely return. The wine list is extensive but easy to read. And for happy hour, you can select three generous pours from their wines by the glass as a custom flight. We have two flights and several small dishes and it was very reasonably priced. It was in a vibrant area and a nice walk back to Bart."

  • "Amelie was a great find. Do be aware that the noise can be a bit much if you're pursuing a romantic dinner with conversation."

  • "We made reservations for Tuesday, which seemed like overkill when we came in to empty tables, but the place quickly filled up! The ambiance is great, and it definitely has a date vibe with a lot of couples. Happy hour is from 5:30 to 7, and the flights of wine are $10, which is quite reasonable. We also had the $20 happy hour meat and cheese plate, which had ample portions and was delicious. While our server was more than happy to customize our flights of wine, I wish he had explained more about what each one was instead of just rattling them off. But overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely be returning."

  • "Went for dinner on Saturday- great deal during happy hour for wine flight and delicious food. Lively atmosphere. Will definitely return."

  • "We only had appetizers and finger food to share and it was fine. good wine, attentive staff. Would give it a better review but it was way too noisy, full of yupsters yelling at the person next to them."
    Dined on 11/11/2013
  • "A girlfriend and I made a reservation at 8pm on Saturday. By the looks of how crowded it was, I'd say we would not be sitting anytime soon. However less than 10 minutes later, we were shown to our table. And not before the gentleman hosting made sure we had wine in hand to visit while waiting. Flatbread was tasty, but the ravioli that isn't really ravioli with truffles - DIVINE. The place is a bit loud - but in a fun way."

  • "The experience was great, the food was just okay, the cheese options and flat bread are quite tasty. However the rillete was a bit more dry than we had hoped. Wine list was fantastic and a good price. Would recommend for appetizers and wine"

  • "What can I say? This little wine bar is one of my favorite places to go. The food is great, good wine and the boyz who run it are really nice. kind:) I just had my birthday there and we all had a fabulous time:)"

  • "Amelie is very good. tables are very small and is more a small plate seen. not a place to go if you for comfort food. wine list was okay not great but they have many to choose from. overall good place"

  • "Place was loud and very warm. Not a place to go to directly after work as casual work attire was a little under dressed for this place. Wine was excellent! Service was really attentive. Problem was I couldn't hear the server over the loudness of the place. Think of a crowed bar with super fancy drinks."

  • "Excellent meat and cheeses. Can't have a conversation!"

  • "Nice to be able to walk to such a friendly neighborhood location. We had somehow missed giving Amelie a try despite their seven (7) year history. Glad we did. Service is prompt, courteous, helpful. Flatbreads are very light and tasty - a must try. The cheese and wine selection are great."

  • "I was very happy with all the wine I tried in the flight my server recommended, and reordered from that selection. Charcuterie and cheeses were good, as was pâté. I would loved to have tried more of the food, but I wasn't hungry anymore. Salads looked good if you're into lighter fare. just a prefect spot for two friends to catch up over good solid food selections and a terrific choice of wines. Look forward to going back."

  • "Went here for girl's night and had so much fun. Our table was not ready so the host offered us a glass of champagne while we wait! What a great idea. That was just the beginning. All their wines and champagnes are great and the small plates are delicious to share. Dont skip the dessert special."

  • "Excellent wine selection, very friendly staff, small normal human portions (as opposed to the unappetizing huge portions served in most US restaurants which serve quantity over quality). Felt like being back in Paris."

  • "Do not be fooled- this is not a quiet, quaint wine bar!!!! it was so loud, i couldn't hear my boyfriend from across the table, great atmosphere if you are out with friends for drinks, but not dates. The service was beyond poor. Our waiter didn't come back once- to check our beverages, check on our meal, or even deliver the check. There were two table runners who were cold and all about business and rushed us through our meal. We knew going into that it was a hot spot, but our total meal took under 40 minutes and the restaurant was packed. Also, the chicken foie mousse tasted bizarre. I've grown up eating this-from France- and it was by far the worst I've ever had. The duck confit and goat cheese trio were greatly enjoyed, however!"

  • "We visited Amelie and had the opposite experience of that expected. Thought we would enjoy great wine, service and education, with good food. Instead, we had great wine, fair wine service, no wine ed and great food. Expectations for wine service/ed were likely uninformed (but it's a wine bar, right?). No mats with wine names or descriptions (wine menu taken when we ordered). The waiter quickly placed each wine (3 in each of 2 flights) down, quickly mentioned what they were (did not agree with my recollection of the menu), and off he went. The food (salmon tartare, flatbreads, raviole), however, was great, although we received the wrong dessert (ordered "6 pieces of chocolate," received creme brulee - looked great, we devoured - same price)."
