Diner Reviews
  • "This was our second time for brunch and they delighted us again. The Sunday Brunch is a prixe fix 3-course offering, with 3-4 choices for each course. We thoroughly enjoyed every single bite of the food. We are planning on coming back in 2 weeks to try the dinner menu."

  • "We celebrated our Anniversary here, leaving the decisions to Chef Sam as to what we would eat! It was undoubtedly one of the most memorable dining experiences we've ever had. Attempts at describing the courses would be feeble, but we were treated to fabulous food, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented, and paired with libations that complemented the food! Thanks to Chef Sam and the entire staff who make Ambrozia the wonderful gem that it is. We feel so lucky to be able to dine here and are so appreciative of all the work that goes into making Ambrozia a special place. If you have not tried Ambrozia, be sure to add it your Asheville list for a great night out and wonderful, creative dishes!"

  • "The food was presented so beautifully on the plate that it was almost a shame to eat it. But hunger overtook us and we ate everything on the plate. The duck riclette and deviled eggs had amazing flavors that we couldn't get enough of. The Ahi Tuna trio was good, but the scallops carbonara was really delicious. The 63 degree egg was really a perfectly cooked egg that really made that dish special. Definitely ordering the carbonara when I go back. Finished off the meal with some great after dinner desert wines. Ambiance was ok. A little noisier than I would normally like."

  • "We had brunch at Amborzia. It was okay. I wouldn't rush back. I thought the courses were a little heavy. We had the boar and the crab cake benedict."

  • "We are new to the area and had dined at Ambrozia shortly after it had opened. The food was amazing, great flavors, beautiful presentation and wonderful use of local ingredients. Since moving here we have been back several times and the quality & service has never faltered. Cudos to the chef & staff, they know what they are doing and aim to please. Ambrozia has become one of our favorite places to dine and will continue to recommend it to everyone we know that is looking for a fantastic foodie experience!!!"

  • "Our first time at Ambrozia and it was a birthday dinner treat for our Asheville friends. In a word, it was disastrous! Service was VERY slow--we were there over three hours. Waited 30 minutes before we even got a cocktail. The food was very marginal and menu uninventive. Deviled eggs were very good as a starter, then things went downhill fast. Twenty minutes after we ordered it, they said they were out of Sunburst trout--in Asheville! Fish & chips alternative were soggy. Beets in salad were hard. Carrot cake came as 4 tiny cupcakes that were choking dry. So disappointed since we wanted to treat our friends and this restaurant is closer for them than going downtown. We all wanted to really like it and we're sorry that we don't."

  • "I've been to this restaurant several times, and I have always thought the food to be very good. Unfortunately, on my most recent experience, I was quite disappointed. While the bison steak was excellent, the dirty burger was not good. First, it just had too many things on it such that nothing stood out. As well, it had a sweet bacon jamb (whatever that is) that give it an unpleasant sweetness. The accompanying French fries were simply awful--soggy and oily. If the burger were the only thing I'd had there, I would never return. However, since most of my experiences have been very good, I will return. Nonetheless, I really think a good restaurant should not disappoint."

  • "From the first bite of our charturite and cheese - we knew this was going to be a great dinner. Everything was created with interest and taste. We loved the beat salad and trout. We will be back on our next trip to Asheville!"

  • "Went here for my wife's birthday as we had seen the menu before and were dying to try it out. We could not have been more happy with our choice. The food was great (we had lots of small plates, as well as the charcuterie board and the cheese board), great wine and wonderful attention from the staff. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Mom Dad and 12 yo daughter. Interesting offerings. Beet Salad and Pimento Cheese Popovers to start. Popovers sizeable. All liked both. Scallop dish well prepared with rich flavors. Bison Ribeye, great piece of meat!. Surprisingly tender. Dirty Burger...interesting and good...Good luck getting your mouth around this one. Loved the wine the waiter suggested. All and all a great visit. Would definitely do it again!"

  • "This is our third visit to Ambrozia. What a treat to have a North Asheville restaurant with easy access and parking that rivals the top downtown restaurants. First, they're one of the few restaurants in Asheville that offer great service - attentive but not hovering - and food arrives when it's supposed to. The food is innovative but not so innovative (as in some other restaurants) that it approaches weird. And the wine list is provocative and matches well with the food that is served. The restaurant has a great ambiance. We'll be back."

  • "This was my first dinner at Ambrozia (brunch was great) and I really enjoyed it. The menu is interesting and there were quite a few choices that appealed to me. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the ambience was relaxed and pleasant. I will definitely be returning to try more menu items."

  • "Not readily noticeable from the street, this is a North Asheville establishment that should not be overlooked. Ambrozia is one of my top 5 restaurants for great food when looking at similarly priced menus.."

  • "We and another couple enjoyed our dinner, made special with pre dinner champagne and a lovely dessert. We especially appreciated the accommodating, attitude in providing a vegetarian version of the evening special which was just as delicious and beautifully presented as the prix fix menu. We will be back."

  • "Given the choices in Asheville I would not go back. If you live in north AVL and want something local it's not bad. Service was delightful. Manager talked with us about the meal so they are working to be a good restaurant choice. My husband said his meal was good but he too would not choose thus over others."

  • "We dine in Asheville almost every Friday night. Although we have our favorites, we are always looking for new venues. As of this past Friday night, the Ambrozia will become one of our favorites. The food was excellent and unique. We almost always only eat an assortment of appitizers and, at the Ambrozia, they were a real treat. We can't wait to get back there to try more."

  • "We usually show up for dinner, but with some friends, decided on Brunch for a change of pace. Everything was great -- the brunch menu is appealing, and the food is not only tasty, but presented beautifully. The staff makes you feel at home and relaxed, but they are on top of everything! If you've got winter doldrums, come by and get an attitude adjustment at this wonderful restaurant!"

  • "My friend and I dined here for Sunday brunch. Though I love the prix fixe format, the food itself was a bit over the top. Every moment in every bite was "in your face" flavor. The flavors were so rich that it was difficult to discern or savor any nuances or subtleties. The flank steak on the eggs benedict was tough and exceptionally chewy. The necessity for "sawing" into the meat, rendered the wet yolks a seeping mess all over the plate. I anticipated smooth flan with hints of gorgonzola, but instead found what would otherwise be a light, delicate dessert to have large lumps of gorgonzola, presenting two completely opposing textures and flavors in each and every bite. We both left with lead-bellied discomfort and skipped dinner."

  • "Thrilled to come upon ambrozia, love the simple, intimate interior, the string of lights outside, the evergreen sprigs on tables. The brussel sprouts are fabulous, as is the beet salad, sweet corn and crab bisque. Love the starters and small plate options for sharing, so many nice options, must go back to try more. Service is great."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our night out at Ambrozia. A friend recommended it. My husband hadn't heard of it and didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was great, food was delicious! We even took our three month old who quietly sat in his carrier, and he enjoyed it too."

  • "Ambrozia is one of the newest arrivals on the Asheville restaurant scene. It is upscale and is another farm-table, locally sourced, and "creative"-ly prepared dishes venue. Prices are high (ex moderate size serving of tomato bisque $10.00), but nothing we sampled at a recent Sunday Brunch (a 3 course prix fixe menu for $20.00 per person) lived up to that expectation. The biggest disappointment was Eggs Benedict with a red wine vinegar hollandaise sauce. The dusty pink color was unappetizing and the thin, acidic flavor was no substitute for the egg yolk/lemon juice/butter standard. Although we appreciated the chef's creative spin, we were disappointed in the taste. Location is convenient and decor is very attractive."

  • "Best eats in North Asheville. Perfect size and great service. Burgers are fantastic, brunch is excellent. My favorite new restaurant in Asheville."

  • "This will be one of our new Asheville favorites. Convenient parking and gets you out of the downtown congestion, but still made it easily back into town for a show. Food was excellent and some of the most creative in town. Service was cordial and efficient, and took very good care of my wife who has a special needs diet. Wine list is not huge, but is well chosen. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu."

  • "Food good and well presented. Wine list long with unknown brands, but our choice was very good. Service was poor and the table next to us complained of the same inattention--it was not that busy and there were adequate waiter persons. Despite having a wine at the higher end of their price list, the waiter never returned to refill glasses or check on the meal. The adjoining couple waited 25 minutes for a pre prepared desert and finally complained. We waited almost 20 minutes between receiving the wine list and seeing the waiter again. The decor is interesting enough and the food well enough prepared that we will try it once again to see if we just didn't get the right server."

  • "We keep going back to Ambrosia despite the many wonderful choices in Asheville!"

  • "Four of us, who have dinner together at a different restaurant every month, had read about Ambrozia's opening in local news papers and decided to go check it out. We found a modern, well-appointed, intimate dining room with comfortable seating, mellow lighting and a bar. Our waitress was delightful - personable and efficient. The varied and enticing menu choices made it hard to decide what to order, but we decided on three different entrees which, after my too-rare steak was graciously returned to the kitchen and re-delivered cooked as desired, we declared to be well-presented and very tasty!. There is a list of creative house cocktails and an ample selection of wine and beer. A nice touch: complimentary ambrozia to start. We will return!"

  • "Went to Ambrozia for dinner with my wife and parents and had a great time and delicious meal. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and the dinner specials. I had a double portion of the Cheerwine braised short rib and the pimento infused mashed potatoes, and the meat was perfectly tender and the potatoes were excellent. My stepmother had the beef stew, which she enjoyed, and my wife had the trout, which she thought was delicious. The deserts were also fantastic, tried the chocolate cake with Guinness ice cream, the chocolate creme brule, and the Gorgonzola flan, which was delicious compared to traditional flan, which i never like to eat. We love Ambrozia and wish it continued success."

  • "Really good food. Over-priced, but everything was delicious. Our waiter, however, the guy with the beard from NY, was terrible - he was nice, but he forgot to put in our entree order, never checked on us, we couldn't get water, and couldn't get him to bring the check. Too bad, because the food and atmosphere are great. We've eaten there before and the service was good, though."

  • "Outstanding! Every aspect of our dining experience was incredible. Our waitress made us feel like we were her only customer. She appeared whenever we needed her but wasn't hovering when we didn't. My meal was out of this world. I do not eat meat often and rarely order wild game, but decided on their feature that night...Venison. Words can't describe how good it was! The presentation was beautiful and the taste was superb. Finally, we loved the ambiance. From the handcrafted bar and lighting to the reclaimed windows that frame and illuminate the bar area. Nicely done!"

  • "Ambrozia clearly has the potential to offer an excellent dining experience. One of our appetizers, the fried Brussels sprouts, was excellent: imaginative, well-prepared, and very tasty. In contrast, the popovers were a bit overcooked.. Of two entree specials on the menu, one included sausage and one a vegetarian risotto. My wife ordered the vegetarian risotto, but sausage special arrived at the table. The staff were gracious and the risotto was soon delivered at our table. It was ok, although the rice was tinted an unappetizing florescent pink with beet juice, and it had a slightly bitter flavor. My entree (scallops Carbonara ) was quite good but barely warm. We'd like to see Ambrozia thrive and we'll try it again."
