  • "As good as Manresa, but different. The wine list is the weakness, including their wine glasses. They do welcome you bring your own wine. $40 corkage fee is reasonable, not cheap."

  • "I've been to many great restaurant all of the world, and I can truly say Ambience deserves it's superb fine dining experience. The staff was gregarious, in a world-impeccable. The restaurant itself is perfectly appointed for this kind of dining experience with elegant minimalism. As to the food- I've never experienced a menu that was intended to be a complete surprise; in fact, I didn't even know how many courses we had to look forward to, but they were all incredible, very creative. Entire experience was absolutely amazing, really appreciated it!"

  • "The Ambience tasting menu was delicious and satisfying with at least 12 courses of small plates. It seemed to get better with every course, ending with an amazing venison or wild boar, and chocolate mouse cake or creme brulee, all cooked to perfection. The fish courses could have been more flavorful, but overall the meal was worth the fixed price. Our gracious host and waiter were both superb. Looking forward to returning on a busier night as this new restaurant becomes more known on the penninsula."

  • "First date night in over a month deserved a special destination and this delivered! Two tasting menus with a single wine pairing to split was plenty to drink and the food was excellent. Quiet, dim lighting, great choice of wines and knowledgeable staff made it a very welcome change of pace to scattered conversations amongst chaos at our other favorite, Bumble. :)"

  • "Very refined techniques and fresh ingredients, but a little overwhelming in terms of flavors. The lobster, kobe beef tartare and venison were exceptional but the balance of the prix-fixe left us wanting more complexity. Decor is also a bit cold and empty although this may have been exaggerated by the slow night when we dined. We'd expect more for the price point."

  • "We enjoyed ourselves very much. Very elegant and inventive food. On a very short list of the best restaurants in the area."

  • "We dined at Ambience for a second time with friends. It was a Saturday night and quite busy. There are romantic corner tables and also a partitioned back area for a larger group. Morgan Song prepares delectable dishes that are works of art. We look forward to another evening at Ambience. It is expensive but well worth it. Perfect for special occasions. We are delighted to have such an outstanding restaurant in Los Altos."

  • "The service at this restaurant was simply outstanding! The presentation of each course was beautiful, and appetizing (unlike some restaurants where you have to wonder if it will be good before you take a bite). Only two courses did not agree with my palate - but you might like it. First, the lobster, and I LOVE lobster, was served with a green roe on top. This made it taste fishy - a no no for lobster in my mind. Second, I'm not a big truffle fan. The Wagyu beef tar tar was bathed in truffle oil - that's all I could taste, truffle. I was hoping to get some beef flavor in there, but that never happened. All the other courses were amazing and our plates were as clean as we could get them! I would go to this restaurant again. Bon appetit!"

  • "An enticing, imaginative, opulent 12 course experience that began with two amuse bouche. Each plate is different, each course is tweaked for each diner, and the combination of molecular gastronomy with traditional cooking techniques makes your palate sing. Servers are extremely knowledgable, and the entire experience was first class.A gem in sleepy downtown Los Altos that provides a tremendous culinary adventure at a reasonable price. Day boat scallop, ahi tuna, chilean sea bass, venison, wild boar, luscious squab, and a superlative poison pate, it was all sublime. Thoughtful wine pairings too Gluten free options are excellent too."

  • "I planned my wife's birthday dinner to try Ambience in Los Altos. Long suffering from a lack of top quality cuisine, Los Altos has a new gem. The weekday service was impeccable, and the chef was able to accommodate my wife's special dietary requests with aplomb. The sole choice involves a few options on an inspired tasting menu. Dishes were interesting and flavors subtle. In total, a complete joy. We'll be back many times more. Also the place has a nice comfortable layout, with options for a private room for only the price of the group dinner."

  • "There's a new kid in town that's going to give Chez TJ competition for being the best French cuisine on the peninsula. Elegant, thoughtful dishes prepared by skilled hands, brilliantly plated and sweetly served. One could not ask for more. Sheer poetic delight!"

  • "Great people and great service. Food was very good. As much as I love Truffle, almost every dish had truffle. I would like to see a toning down of that and adding more non-truffle varieties. I think they could do better in bathroom signs (invest some money and have a better signs as opposed to looking like a bar) and the location of rest room is bad. Everyone can hear when the other person is in the toilet. Not appetizing ;) Inside ambiance is cozy, but by no means tasteful, almost boring. They could invest to pretty up the inside."

  • "On the peninsula, we've been to Baume twice, Chez TJ twice. For the peninsula, this one was by far the most interesting and delicious (separate presentations, even of the same course) for my wife and I. Unique, but not fussy, combinations of sauce "eggs" and an early "caviar" theme in the dishes through the early courses. Palate cleanser, and then a transition to meats, nicely done. Bonus cheese plate dessert. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable. They were much more engaging than we're used to on the Peninsula, particularly for an upscale restaurant. Fixed price menu and wine pairing, reasonably priced (but not cheap). Comparable to the top flight restaurants; a hidden gem here on the peninsula and worth searching out."

  • "My girlfriend and I dined at Ambience on New Year's Eve. It's a new restaurant in Los Altos, and we thought we'd try something local. Little did we know what we were in for: 14 courses and 2-1/2 hours of dining adventure! It was a prix fixe menu, and we split our decisions so we could try everything. We're definitely spoiled when it comes to good food, but this meal not only impressed us, but was unmatched for sheer food entertainment: delicious, interesting, extremely imaginatively presented ... just over the top! We had so much fun! One example: my dessert came with what looked like bright, colorful, sparkly coils, as well as a flower and leaf, all made from sugar crystals. Plus very quiet, a big plus! Great for celebrations."

  • "Ambience has a Prix Fix Tasting Menu and adds Prix Fix Wine Tasting as well. We decided to share the Wine Tasting--turned out to be a good idea, although the pours are reasonable there is a different wine for each course. The Tasting Menu is the same for the first few courses and then offers a choice of two for the last 3 courses. Each of those choices were outstanding. Additionally, there were some special tasting courses since it was New Year's Eve. The restaurant was essentially full, but the time for dining was not rushed. A fantastic experience over all! We will need to maintain watch over the menu for its change when we return."

  • "Great evening for my wife's birthday party. 10 course tasting menu with 5 "extras" from the chef. Everything was excellent--delicious and very beautifully presented. Only two of the courses ventured into something I would consider trying too hard to be different. Service is very attentive but the staff needs more training. There is a lack of in-depth knowledge of the food and wine list that would be expected for a restaurant of this caliber. Suspect in 6 months they can be at the level of a Michelin star restaurant. Wine list was OK but somewhat lacking in depth, probably best to do the wine pairings as they looked interesting. We bought two bottles and they comped the corkage fee on the special burgundy I brought. We'll go again."

  • "Wonderful dining experience! We opted for the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The courses were plated carefully and beautifully and every single bite was so flavorful. Some standout dishes included the tuna tartare, the two-part lobster/lobster bisque course, the boar, and of course, the desserts. There were 14 courses and we definitely came away satisfied. Wine pairings were also matched perfectly. Chef used some gastronomical techniques that we weren't expecting but thoroughly enjoyed. One of us was pescatarian, which we mentioned in our reservation, and the chef prepared some delectable alternatives that the rest of us wanted to try."

  • "We have traveled the world and been to many of the worlds best restaurants and find that Ambience could hold its own against any of them. The chef prepared amazing dish after amazing dish, often delivered the same dish in multiple ways (a different one for each of us), the presentation was exceptional, beautiful ingredients, and amazing flavors. Ambience was a bit difficult to spot as we drove by and it is in a very quiet neighborhood but once you find it, you'll want to go back. Top notch."

  • "Out of several very good fixed menu/price restaurants in the south bay area, I would have to rate Ambience at the top of the list. The menu, the food courses, the presentation and the wine pairings were superb and more than justified the rather high price of the experience. The portions were small, but with 8 courses you do get full, but slowly, and thats as it should be. In most restaurants, by the time you finish the appetizer and the salad course, the edge (and appreciation for the next course) is off the appetite. Not here as you eagerly await the next course. If you are looking for a dining experience beyond just good, it is an excellent and romantic alternative to dining in Paris!"

  • "We didn't expect a restaurant like this in Los Altos! It's everything we typically drive all the way to San Fran for and more! Everything we had was beautiful, creative, exciting and delicious. We can totally feel the chef's sincerity in each plate! Compared to all the similar restaurants in the South Bay or in the Peninsula, I think Ambience is probably the top 1 or two. The food is much lighter and more delicate than the Plumed Horse, and more modern too. We kept on comparing it to Quince, Ambience is just as good but a bit too quiet as it wasn't busy. That will change soon as people discover this fantastic place in a unlikely location which we are so happy about since it's 5 min from our house!"

  • "This is our new favorite gastronomic restaurant in the Bay Area ! We went to all the highest stars rewarded restaurant and this one is a little gem who can be soon well rewarded. For a special occasion or a romantic gateway, each plate is a delicious surprise for the eyes and for the mouth. Highly recommended !"

  • "The food was interesting and very good, presented beautifully and service was outstanding. We had an enjoyable time. The only downside is the portions are small and we were hungry an hour or so later. We are not big eaters at all, but my husband ended up eating a tuna fish sandwich later despite having a wonderful meal."

  • "Our family does love these tasting menu restaurants. We like the presentation of each course as if it is a gift arranged and presented just for us. Ambiance does this well and the courses are presented artfully and creatively. The food itself was very good but some of the courses perhaps a bit light on flavor. Lots of the molecular gastronomy and such which I must confess I have not become a devotee but many foodies have including my son. So all in all a nice experience."

  • "I was quite disappointed with the tasting menu at Ambience. At the end of this 10+ course menu, we were still hungry and had to satisfy our hunger with a after-dinner snack. Not what you would expect after paying many $$$$ We went on a Saturday night but the restaurant was not full. It was eerily quiet until they turned on some background music. While some dishes and presentation were great (e.g., lamb, venison, mousse dessert), many other dishes tasted quite average and did not have complex flavors I have come to experience at other tasting menu restaurants. Wished they focused a bit more on taste and portions vs. presentation. This isn't a place i would recommend until they improve some of the areas mentioned above."

  • "If you are looking for someplace exceptional to celebrate a very special occassion you must make a reservation with Ambience. Let their chef impress you with dish after dish prepared for royalty and wines specially paired for your palate to enjoy with each of the dishes. The room was decorated with a gorgeous array of flowers that flowed from a clear glass vase as a centerpiece to the room. The service was excellent and attentive allowing you to move through the many courses at your pace without being rushed. Every dish was explained in detail and the presentation was like "Monet on a Plate". We will definately return and pass the word to anyone who wants to share a very special dining experience."

  • "My wife and I invited friends of ours to dine here. We opted for the wine pairing. The food is excellent and the wine complemented the food well. Particular standouts are the beef tartare, rack of lamb, bone marrow soup, and sea bass. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful. The glass walls with abstract paintings add a nice modern touch to an otherwise classical setting. No complaints about the service either. Price is reasonable given the cost of comparable restaurants in the area. Would highly recommend and will return."

  • "Fine dining, but more healthy than most with less fat and sauces. Beautiful plating, with edible orchid and rose petals! Talented chef, who presented wonderful flavors and well-done contrasting textures. Pricey, but I'd rather have one "fine dining" occasion than many "fast food" experiences."

  • "This is a restaurant with very good food but attitude and service that needs a lot of work. It started with difficulty bringing the wines which resulted in the food being served before the wine. Then there was the waitress who wouldn't let us pour our own wine since it was "something that she needed to do." When I said I could not eat grapefruit due to medical reasons, I was told that they couldn't do anything about that and there would be no substitute. During the service we heard about the kitchen's way of doing things a lot. Food: Very good but not a great value given it's price. Summary: Good food spoiled by an attitude that everything had to be done their way - uninfluenced by the customer and his needs or desires."

  • "We tried this new Los Altos restaurant for my husband's birthday. It was one of the best meals I ever had -- equal to Chef TJ's in Mountain View when it got its Michelin star. It was also one of the most expensive meals I have ever had, but we knew that going in. The restaurant offers a fixed menu, which you can accompany with a wine pairing. The food and wine were exquisite, except for the tough lamb chops. The service was attentive and the decor is unobtrusively lovely -- wood floors, taupe walls and curtains and comfortably padded modern banquettes. Also unobtrusive is the signage out front, which made it hard for us to find the restaurant at first. A month after opening, Ambience was half-full on a Saturday. I hope that changes."

  • "Dining at Ambiance is more than going out to dinner, it's an event. You need to be in the same mind set as if you're taking a hot air ballon ride in the Napa Valley. You plan and save up for those types of events and the same could be true for dining at Ambiance. The food is beyond excellent, the flavors encountered beyond description. If I was given a choice for a last meal before I met my demise, it would be at Ambiance. You should strongly consider going there; you may even owe to yourself to do so. Be ready to spend your hard earned money though. 11 course tasting dinner is $135, the wine paring is an additional $85, and you wouldn't dare walk out without leaving a tip, would you ? It's worth it !"

  • "Straight out of France. Delicious food presented in the French tradition. One of three restaurants in the county (we know of) that doesn't stiffle conversation with loud music and guests that must compete with it to be heard."
