Diner Reviews
  • "I will be back! I went for lunch on a Tuesday and I actually parked in the parking lot!! Besides finding parking the restaurant was amazing. Lots of choices of fresh fish flown in that day! Service was great! My only complaint was there was way too much garlic on the green beans......can't eat something like that and return to work! I'll also be back for fresh fish at the market. I felt like the prices were very good for that quality of fish!"

  • "We went there on the recommendation of our friends in Dallas, as we live in Arlington. It was a short easy drive, with excellent parking. Our server was a delightful young lady who was very well-informed on the menu. There were 7 of us and each of us had a fabulous dinner!"

  • "The fresh fish selection is amazing and everything we ate was cooked perfectly! Blackened red fish was delicious, char with raspberry chipotle sauce was also delicious! Many options on preparations and many different fresh fish flown in daily so selection varies. Will definitely return and recommend! Asked for a Moscow Mule made with Grapefruit vodka and they were happy to prepare even though it wasn't on menu. Even ordered another drink to have outside on the other side of the complex and they were so nice about it! Just returned the glass and all was good! Service and bartenders very pleasant! Loved this place!"

  • "If you're looking for a crawfish po-boy or sazarac, but don't want to drive to New Orleans and back, check out Amberjax. They serve the best non-sushi fish in the area. One thing that might not be obvious: you can take Amberjax fish home and cook for yourself. Their fish beats most of the deli seafood counters in town. If the seafood isn't enough to make you yearn for the Big Easy, the cocktails will. The service has always been gracious. Energetic, doesn't exactly describe the ambiance -- it's loud and exhuberant. The tables are so close together that the wait staff practically have to climb over the patrons."

  • "Looked forward to going to hot new area Trinity Groves. Lots of energy in the area. Food was good - many choices -- and services excellent"

  • "Even on a Tuesday night with only half the restaurant full my husband and I had to almost yell across our table. Food and service was amazing though."

  • "We have been to Amberjax three times. This was likely the worst and last time. The first time the service was ok and the food was quite salty. This last time the service was really slow any food was mediocre. We waited at least five minute for water and for our server to come by. I find the food overpriced for the quality. There are much better options around. Luck and LTO in Trinity Groves and even Babbs and the Hot dog place are preferable to Amberjax. We don't plan to return."

  • "Everything we ate was fresh and prepared perfectly. They had a great selection of raw oysters and a great selection of specials. Our waitress (Ruth) was outstanding- friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Our only complaint is that the restaurant was very noisy."

  • "A group of 6 of us arrived around 6pm. The hosts were very friendly and understanding as we ended up spending about 45 min at the bar. When we sat it took forever for the waiter to take our drink and food orders. The waiter missed to stop by frequently I refill our glasses and check on us. It was not until time for dessert that he started showing up of course as it was close to us leaving. The food was decent but overpriced. The $27 scallops dish comes with 3 small scallops! The salmon was undercooked and nothing spectacular for its $24 cost. Our friends commented on the same items. In overall a poor experience for the cost of it. Between drinks we spent over $115 for a literally "market experience". Not worth it."

  • "Took a friend to lunch and neither of us had been to the restaurant before. The fish was particularly fresh, well prepared and the server was very helpful."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. The food and drinks were very good. I have to say that my dirty vodka martini was the BEST I have had around town."

  • "The waitstaff was so friendly, our waiter was so funny, nice and super knowledgable! The good was delicious, the freshest seafood around! The oysters were some of the best I have ever had, first time I have ever been brave enough to try them inland, and I was pleasantly surprised! We all felt like we were on the coast somewhere! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Lively, fun fish house with fresh offerings. Best hush puppies ever. It is loud so not for a first date, but is an energetic spot for meeting friends"

  • "The food was great! However, the noise level in the restaurant is way too loud! We had to almost scream to be heard with our other dining companions. The main course was very good, but the after dinner coffee tasted very weak and the peach cobbler was bland."

  • "Took a friend that is moving to Dallas. Thought ahead enough to get a reservation just hours before going and got a table immediately, ahead of other waiting. Very loud. Service was good and food was excellent"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The number one thing we will remember about our experience at AmberJax is the noise. It is so loud, you cannot have a conversation unless you yell. It is so loud you may even be distracted by the facts that the food is way overpriced and highly mediocre. We will not be going back."

  • "Great fresh seafood and fun ambiance! Great selection of cocktails, beer and wine and the Gurgle water pitcher on each table of an inverted big mouth fish makes it fun to drink water! Also provided an extra bucket of ice on each table. It felt like we were in an upper East Coast restaurant on the water (husband from Boston area). Acoustics make having an intimate conversation difficult, but the food and service make up for it! We had fresh salad, seared scallops from menu, golden buttery fish, file slaw, grilled veggies and pistachios ice cream & key like pie."

  • "The most impressive thing about the restaurant was the NOISE. Normal conversation was impossible. The appetizers and entrees were outstanding and we all enjoyed them immensely. The sides were disappointing: jalapeno cheesy grits were runny with only a hint of jalapeno, slaw was ordinary, okra was so-so , but the pea trio was a big hit. Cocktails, beer and wine were fine. The noise factor will keep us away from future visits."

  • "Amberjack's is simply the best seafood in town, served in a casual lively place. We love Trinity Groves and will be back."

  • "Father's Day dinner at Amberjax was good, but the noise probably could have been measured in high decibels. Conversation was almost impossible. Our food was good, but overpriced. The wait staff was "in the weeds" with announcements being made repeatedly that they were out of oysters and then trout. The location was interesting, but we won't be back."

  • "The trio of seafood dips along with the cocktails were great. My fried seafood platter was very good. My wife had the lobster mac and cheese and to her surprise, it was very bland. The service was not good. I overheard one of the managers apologizing to customers and that this was a "bad day" for service levels. If this restaurant can fix the service, I would go back."

  • "The food was really, really good. Restaurant is quite loud and apparently the bus boys were too slow because the chef was chasing behind one of them through the dining room and screaming at him.... not something your patrons should have to endure. Overall, the place seems to be a grill-type atmosphere with fine dining prices. But again the food was delicious - if everything were about $5 less, to match the atmosphere (and the grumpy chef stays in the kitchen), then this would be an incredible gem"

  • "They have a huge list of fish and other seafood. We were able to try a fish we had never had before. It was great. It has a very casual ambience so I wouldn't suggest it for a special occasion but the service and food were outstanding."

  • "The food here is consistently very good. We usually eat there at least three times a month!"
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "We were at a table for 4. You could not hear the wait staff's message about specials. Evidently there was also a background noise problem that affected ordering, we didn't get what we ordered. Because of the noise we will never go there again and certainly will not recommend Amberjax. This was our second trip to Amberjax. We gave it a 2nd try, what a mistake."

  • "Talk about let down...we were all looking forward to eating at this place, and, sadly, nothing was redeeming. Appetizers were served 30 minutes apart although ordered at the same time. Beverages were ordered and never served. The noise level was just ridiculous and tables were so close to each other staff were constantly hitting seated patrons. And the food is just okay; it's not horrible, but we all agreed: we've all definitely had better. If a restaurant is going to charge as much as they are charging, the service, quality, and experience needs to be on point and excellent. They're not even close. We won't be returning."

  • "This was our first time at Trinity Groves and we decided to try Amberjax because we love fresh seafood. We had read reviews about the high noise levels so we went early on a Friday night and the noise wasn't a problem, although concrete floors and glass walls do nothing to attenuate the sound. The seafood selection was great - I had the Walleye from the Great Lakes and my spouse had the salad with Ahi, and both were delicious., as was the scallops appetizer. I hadn't seen Walleye at any other restaurant in Dallas - the waiter said all their seafood was flown in fresh daily. We will add this to our restaurant go-to list."

  • "If you are looking for a new place with great food and amazing service, I highly recommend Amberjax. We went for lunch and I had the blackened Red Snapper with jalapeño grits and cole slaw. The fish is flown in fresh twice daily. It was prepared to perfection. We loved the Trinity Groves atmosphere. It's definitely worth the drive. "

  • "We enjoyed the visit ... the food was awesome! The service was super! The gurgling pitchers ... VERY nice touch! Bought one!"

  • "Yep. It's here and there were almost too many choices. Alaskan Halibut. Copper River Salmon. Red Snapper. And the list goes on. Outstanding family run restaurant with fresh daily specials to accompany the standard menu. And, they are finally getting some decent wines on their wine list. The only drawback is the noise; very difficult to have a normal conversation."

  • "The food was good, and we love the location. We had a group of 6 and it was very loud, so it made it difficult to hear the person across the table. Overall it was good."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "The selection of fresh seafood was impressive; as was the presentation and flavor of the dinner. However, the excessive noise level ruined the experience. We were told by an apologetic manager they normally open the large doors to alleviate some of the problem but they couldn't do so that evening because of the flies (which didn't surprise us considering it smelled like the dumpsters were nearby as we approached the restaurant). The decor portion of the ambience was spot on for the relaxed atmosphere but it, too, was drowned out by the noise. I sincerely hope they find a solution to the noise...the staff and food were excellent but neither make up for the headaches brought on by the noise."

  • "The reservation service was very helpful as my party was seated promptly. There's something about telling people, "we have a reservation" that causes them to arrive timely. Although this was not my first time to visit Amberjax at Trinity Groves, each visit provides a "first time" experience and the opportunity to try something new."

  • "Waitress tried too hard to sell "wild salmon", which was 2x the price of the other salmon offered. Faced with her relentless sales push, we decided to buy one of each (two people at the table ordered salmon). Our taste test at the table suggested that they tasted the same - wild certainly was not worth 2x the price. Food portions also very, very small. Tuna tartare appetizer was excellent."

  • "We went on Sunday night and the place was full. Our waiter was great. For appetizers we had the crab cakes, which were good, and the steamers which were great. For our entrees, we had the trout almondine which was outstanding, the escolar, which was good, the Brozino which tasted good but was dry and a seafood cobb salad that was outstanding. For desert we had a chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of ice cream and key lime pie. Both were really great. I had the escolar and actually enjoyed my sides, mushrooms and jalapeño grits even more. Everyone's sides were great. For the price, I would have liked the entrees to be a bit better."

  • "The service started out great. We ordered our food. I had the trout and my wife had the surf and turf. Steak & lobster. The trout was surpurb. The lobster, best that we have ever had, but my wife's steak was not cooked as we expected. We ordered it medium rare, asked the waitress that we wanted pink throughout. If it needed to be medium, it was ok. The first time it came back, brown outside, inside raw. The second time, still raw, we told the waitress don't bring another one. The third time, the owner brought it out. We asked her to just remove it. She didn't understand. The manager/owner was rude and said so you ruined 3 steaks. No, you didn't get it correct. We only asked to be cooked a little more. Not good owner appeal."

  • "One downside...the sides were a little cold when they arrived at the table. It seems as if they plated the fish about 5 minutes after the spinach and grits. Overall very good!"

  • "Good food and excellent service, but over priced and too loud for conversastion. I will not be a repeat custumer."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "The seafood is good as advertized. One needs to get the fried oysters for appetizer, they are excellent."

  • "The seafood is always fresh and appropriately cooked and seasoned to make it a delicious meal. The service is friendly and very accommodating. It can get very noisy "
