A word from Amber Kipsbay
Amber serves up delicious Asian-fusion inspired dishes to New Yorkers and tourists alike. This Asian-inspired restaurant and lounge is located in North Gramercy in Manhattan. With great music and lively décor, this Asian restaurant has a relaxed, downtown feel.

Amber offers a delicious menu with fresh Asian cuisine in a great ambiance. They have three floors and high ceilings for an overall unique experience. On the first floor, there is a large bar with two large flat screen TVs and open windows that allow for fun people-watching.

In the main dining area on the second level there is a giant Buddha on the top of the Koi pond.

  • Nice Lunch Spot

If you're in the mid-20s, East side, Amber Kipsbay is a great lunch spot to take a client, when you are on a budget, not trying to impress with bells and whistles on a first time lunch . I was a little leery of the decor, as the entrance makes the restaurant seem really narrow and small, and the front tables looking out on 3rd seemed a little noisy, but the upstairs is spacious and pleasant. The wine list and menu had a generous range of selections and we were both delighted with the Sauvigon Blanc, Duck roll appetizer and Green Curry entree we chose.

Another scrumptious meal at Amber, same menu as Amber at 3rd Avenue@ 80th Street. Unfortunately, the dining room of the Kips Bay branch is reached by a long steep staircase. The room itself is rather dark.

This restaurant had a noise level that was off the charts, but we were willing to put up with it as the appetizers we had were absolutely sensational (chunky-chunky-chunky, chicken satay, fried dumplings, filet mignon lettuce leaves). But we were disappointed with the entrees (green curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice, beef with basil and pad thai). The pieces of chicken and beef were cut so large and flat, almost like a scallopini - either do a chunk or a julienne strip. These pieces were very cumbersome and hard to manage, especially with just a fork or chopsticks. The seasoning was bland - we asked for regular hot seasoning, not very hot, but we got no seasononing at all.

Another wonderful dining experience at Amber! My fiance and I came for my birthday lunch. My sushi & sashimi platter was delish and fresh; his salmon teriyaki was exceptional as well. Our waitress Eka made our experience that much more enjoyable.

We had an 830 reservation and was not sat until 9. I never received my entree. The food was very good and when we complained about the wait we received 8 complimentary glasses of champagne and when I did not received my order, they took 20% off the total bill. They were good in the "make up" factor and food was good but lousy time management and getting orders in!

Terrible and overpriced food. None of it tasted or looked fresh. We had sushi and hot entrees. Very disappointing. The blaring house music didn't help either. It was 6:30 pm, not 2 am. Don't waste your money here.

I went on a Friday night and it was pretty crowded. There is a good bar downstairs and plenty of space for eating upstairs. It is very loud but still ok to have a conversation. There was no enough light which made it a little difficult to read the menu. I had the Pink Lady special roll and it was phenomenal. Everything on the menu looked great and the food was fantastic. I also had the antioxidant martini and it was well made. All of the drink specials sounded great. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good sushi.

Very good menu selection. I was pleased that they had sushi in addition to many other menu items. Quick and attentive service, very kind to our 8-year old son who loves sushi. Food was good (but not stellar) and portions were generous. Very young crowd at the restaurant, good energy. And one of the few Asian restaurant that I have ever seen offer a chocolate dessert option - bonus.

The restaurant was lovely, food was good and service was fine. My only complaint is the noise level. For some inexplicable reason the restaurant decided to pipe in really loud club-like music, which seemed to go against the ambiance of the place. After an hour, I had a headache and was tired of shouting across the table to be heard. Because of this, I probably won't return.

GREAT FOR HAPPY HOUR! One of the best lychee martinis I have ever had and I am not typically a martini drinker. They make it with vodka, not gin, and they use fresh lychees. The food is also great. The service is quick and the quality of the fish is very good for the price. I think they have the best veggie roll I have ever had. I absolutely love this place! The music is also great.

I ordered pineapple fried rice which came served in a half pineapple shell. What a great presentation. I looooove this restaurant and will always come back.

Food is very good, at a great price point, the service is attentive but not fawning, and the atmosphere is energetic and lively. Only critique - if I can even call it that - is that the dishes that were classified as "spicy" (i.e. the green curry) could have used a little more heat; regardless, every dish was delicious and well-presented. An excellent value and would definitely recommend (we will be back)!
