We went to Amber Dhara on Valencia .. We had made a reservation for brunch on Mother's day. We were 6 adults and 2 children. Were seated promptly and offered unlimited mimosas or chai tea. The mimosas were delicious. We ordered mango lassi for the children. The buffet had a wide assortment of Indian foods, some spicey and some mild. There were also delicious desserts. The wait staff was attentive and refilled our glasses and removed empty plates. I highly recommend this restaurant for a group brunch.

We had been at the Amber location in Yerba Buena Gardens a few times but not this one previously. Everything was wonderful! Terrific food both in flavor and presentation, attentive service and warm ambience. We were accommodated to a table where conversation among our group was easily heard. We plan to return!

We ordered their "Butter Chicken," but the chicken was way overcooked and tasted dry and stringy. The Vegetable Biryani was extremely spicy. I like spicy food, but this was over the top. It would have been nice to have warned us. The fish appetizer was quite good, but the puffed rice and avocado salad was not very flavorful.

Five of us ate an early dinner here before attending a meeting close by. We each had something different. Each one of us was quite happy with our selection even though some of the choices were rather spicy. The waiter was quite helpful in explaining the different selections and guiding us towards what might be the best choice for our particular taste. We were quite satisfied with our dining experience there and intend to go back.

  • Prefixe Menu Not Worth The Price...

Amber Dhara's Valentine's Day prefixe menu was not worth the price. Some of the dishes like the lamb and sweet potato tuk (appetizer) were delicious, but the rest were not so great. Also, the desserts took more than half an hour to arrive. Finally, we were overcharged for our wine and the pour was exceptionally skimpy (a half glass). I don't normally rip restaurants, but there are better places to spend your money in the Mission.

We been here before a few times and love the food. However, we chose it for Valentine's Day not realizing it was a Pre Fixe menu. Even though the food was fine, we wouldn't have chosen those items for our dinner. We felt that for this kind of restaurant, a full menu would have been better even though it was Valentine's Day. We would still go back in the future.

I have a regular monthly session at Aslam's, and am never particularly impressed - but THIS place was arguably the best indian food I have had for a long time. Completely unconventional menu, but everything that came was interesting, flavorful and tasty. Including the cocktails (or so my wife found out!) Frankly, I suspect this is one of those restaurants that is one "prestige" review/recommendation away from being booked solid. My tip is to try it now while you still can... and to say you found it first!

Our group of 5 enjoyed our dinner on a Friday nite. We had an early reservation and had the place largely to ourselves. The service and wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was good. I have a problem with veggie dishes costing the same as meat dishes which I found to be the case here. There is a more than adequate drink menu and the ambiance is pleasant.

It just wasn't spectacular. Portions were inconsistent. Some too big, some too small. Much more sauce than chicken, lamb or shrimp. Goat Cheese Appetizer was mostly dry bread. Garlic Nan was neither garlicky nor buttery Room too bright and no ambiance. Screams out for a dimmer on the light switch or smaller or fewer lightbulbs..and some candles. Okra good if a little salty. More than you could eat. Sag Paneer huge but pretty tasteless. Service a little indifferent. Overall was just good enough that we felt properly fed but nothing we would ever go back for.

Many of the dishes here are classics, perfectly and authentically prepared, and others are delightful modern interpretations of classics. We had very tasty appetizers, including chicken prepared three ways in the tandoor, and a cauliflower dish made with coconut that was delicious. The mains were also great and the service attentive without being intrusive. One of the reasons we liked this place for this dinner for five is that you can hear conversation easily without a lot of noise. My only (small) complaint is that the specialty cocktails were too sweet for my taste, but those who got regular martinis and such were more than happy.

I took my girlfriend to Amber Dhara for her birthday dinner. It was as perfect as perfect can get. The service was attentive, the Butter Chicken was super delicious, and the cocktails were innovative and tasty. Her favorite dish, tho, Avocado Poori - was made from scratch just for her. That really made her evening! Innovative takes on long-time classics is what really separates Amber Dhara from other restos in its class and set it a notch above. I've been a big fan of Chef Manish Tyagi since his days at Washington DC's Rasika West End - and am so psyched that he's landed in San Francisco.

This was our second visit in one week. The food was wonderful. Prices are reasonable. The ambiance is great: beautiful colors, low lighting, just enough space around the tables (a few more inches between chairs would have been appreciated). Parking is impossible. The noise level rapidly increased during our visit -- it is not what I would describe as "energetic" but rather as PAINFUL. The service was mediocre at best by the professionals -- I must say, the busboys did the most work and were the most diligent. I was disappointed that the hostess didn't remember us as we had been in just 6 days ago. The server took our order, dropped by to see if everything was OK, and dropped off the bill -- other than that, we didn't see her.

We've eaten here before and believe the quality of the food decreased significantly. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but doesn't warrant the price ($10 cocktails is really reaching). The service was wonky. My drink didn't arrive by the time our food came, so I asked to cancel it. Waitress responded, "Ok, let me check on that for you" and then brought it out. If I wanted to know where it was, I would've asked. They were REALLY slow for 7pm on Wednesday, so I felt they just didn't want to comp the drink. Every time we've been here there are new waitresses, a telltale sign of poor management. Won't be coming back unless the prices or service drastically improve.

Disclaimer - I love Indian food, been to India and was raised on mostly northern Indian food. As a resident of the mission I am so happy that I now have a variety of Indian food for whatever my pallete and social needs. Amber Dhara is definitely on the more higher end foodie experience . I have dined there several times - including two recent business dinners. Their food is delectable, fine tasting and with a huge variety. One business meal was with 8 Indian co-workers - all of them loved the place. Highly recomend for a great light to heavy dinner out.

We enjoyed our meal and would go back/order take out on the quality of the food alone. The space is large enough to be able to get a reservation easily with a large group. What I was disappointed in was the service. Our appetizers arrived promptly, but our meal took over an hour to arrive (ie a larger group came and left within the time we were waiting). Our waiter never apologized but offered that our food was 'taking abnormally long'. I would have been totally fine if he explained the situation, apologized, and offered us a free dessert/wine/naan/anything. That never happened. There were some internal conflicts going on as we watched our waiter/manager get in a fight, police come in, and other arguments taking place amongst the staff.

Our group of 6 of long time friends loved our dinner at Amber Dhara - Valencia. The food was delicious - great combinations of flavors. Some of our favorite appetizers included: Samosas (some of our group said they were the best samosas they had ever eaten), Goat Cheese Tukda - leavened bread with pine nuts, goat cheese and zatar, avocado poori and my favorite, the tandoori paneer broccoli. And these were just the starters to our meal... It was a special meal - great food, beautiful presentation, nice atmosphere, quiet enough early (7pm) to talk with friends and enjoy a great evening.

We came to try the new restaurant because we were big fans of Manish Tyagi's former restaurant, Rasika in D.C. We had high hopes and brought our own bottle of 1973 Chateau Latour. We ordered three entrees, the cauliflower bezule (at the waitresses' recommendation), the palak chaat and the tandoori broccoli. We also ordered the olive chili naan, the tandoori roti, daal makhani and palak paneer. The appetizers were all pretty outstanding. The corkage fee is also very reasonable $20.00). The entrees were just meh, nothing over and above the average Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. All in all: definitely not to the level of Rasika, but not a bad spot for appetizers.
