Welcome to Amber Dhara on Valencia Street in San Francisco.
The Amber Group of restaurants opened it's first location eighteen years ago in 1994 in Mountain View, CA and since then has been rated among San Francisco chronicle’s top 100 restaurants. Amber Dhara in San Francisco’s Mission District is Amber’s sixth location. The vision of this restaurant, like its counterpart in Palo Alto, is to create seasonal, regional, ecologically sustainable, unique and delectable menus with an extensive wine and cocktail list and friendly service. There will be a big bar menu, as the concept is focused on bar lounge crowd.

Even though the food was fine, we wouldn't have chosen those items for our dinner. We felt that for this kind of restaurant, a full menu would have been better even though it was Valentine's Day. We would still go back in the future."

  • "Amber Dhara's Valentine's Day prefixe menu was not worth the price. Some of the dishes like the lamb and sweet potato tuk (appetizer) were delicious, but the rest were not so great. Also, the desserts took more than half an hour to arrive. Finally, we were overcharged for our wine and the pour was exceptionally skimpy (a half glass). I don't normally rip restaurants, but there are better places to spend your money in the Mission."

  • "I have a regular monthly session at Aslam's, and am never particularly impressed - but THIS place was arguably the best indian food I have had for a long time. Completely unconventional menu, but everything that came was interesting, flavorful and tasty. Including the cocktails (or so my wife found out!) Frankly, I suspect this is one of those restaurants that is one "prestige" review/recommendation away from being booked solid. My tip is to try it now while you still can... and to say you found it first!"

  • "Our group of 5 enjoyed our dinner on a Friday nite. We had an early reservation and had the place largely to ourselves. The service and wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was good. I have a problem with veggie dishes costing the same as meat dishes which I found to be the case here. There is a more than adequate drink menu and the ambiance is pleasant."

  • "It just wasn't spectacular. Portions were inconsistent. Some too big, some too small. Much more sauce than chicken, lamb or shrimp. Goat Cheese Appetizer was mostly dry bread. Garlic Nan was neither garlicky nor buttery Room too bright and no ambiance. Screams out for a dimmer on the light switch or smaller or fewer lightbulbs..and some candles. Okra good if a little salty. More than you could eat. Sag Paneer huge but pretty tasteless. Service a little indifferent. Overall was just good enough that we felt properly fed but nothing we would ever go back for."

  • "Many of the dishes here are classics, perfectly and authentically prepared, and others are delightful modern interpretations of classics. We had very tasty appetizers, including chicken prepared three ways in the tandoor, and a cauliflower dish made with coconut that was delicious. The mains were also great and the service attentive without being intrusive. One of the reasons we liked this place for this dinner for five is that you can hear conversation easily without a lot of noise. My only (small) complaint is that the specialty cocktails were too sweet for my taste, but those who got regular martinis and such were more than happy."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Amber Dhara for her birthday dinner. It was as perfect as perfect can get. The service was attentive, the Butter Chicken was super delicious, and the cocktails were innovative and tasty. Her favorite dish, tho, Avocado Poori - was made from scratch just for her. That really made her evening! Innovative takes on long-time classics is what really separates Amber Dhara from other restos in its class and set it a notch above. I've been a big fan of Chef Manish Tyagi since his days at Washington DC's Rasika West End - and am so psyched that he's landed in San Francisco."

  • "Our group of 6 of long time friends loved our dinner at Amber Dhara - Valencia. The food was delicious - great combinations of flavors. Some of our favorite appetizers included: Samosas (some of our group said they were the best samosas they had ever eaten), Goat Cheese Tukda - leavened bread with pine nuts, goat cheese and zatar, avocado poori and my favorite, the tandoori paneer broccoli. And these were just the starters to our meal... It was a special meal - great food, beautiful presentation, nice atmosphere, quiet enough early (7pm) to talk with friends and enjoy a great evening."
