  • "Lovely, serene garden setting from outdoor patio, reminded us of Versailles. Access to patio for ambulatory challenged folks very nice."

  • "With a varied menu and knowledgable servers, any diet can be accommodated at this wonderful retreat. Save it for a special occasion, or just going there MAKES the occasion special!"

  • "This was our first visit to The Grand Del Mar. Beautiful place and our meal was fantastic! As we were celebrating out 31st wedding anniversary, they were kind enough to start us out with a complimentary glass of bubbly and finished with complimentary dessert which was unexpected and very much appreciated!"

  • "Outdoor setting for Amaya is peaceful and green and your neighbor's table is not in your lap. Took a friend for her birthday lunch because I wanted it all to feel special and it was! Shrimp and salmon on the salads were perfectly cooked, butter for rolls was soft for spreading, iced tea was unsweetened with orange slices as requested. The birthday dessert was layers of chocolate-- one tasting crunchy and another tasted of peanut butter... together it was one of my top 5 desserts ever! Excellent service-never rushed so we could talk. Thank you Amaya!"

  • "I don't normally give 5 stars but this place is worth it."

  • "The Amaya is a top notch place to get together with Business Colleagues and take you time having a group dinner on a business trip. The menu is well put together and has a unique focus that allows for quick ordering. We started with the lobster bisque and Catalan-style Shrimp. The bisque had an outstanding flavor and depth and was a outstanding start to dinner. The Shrimp was a favorite with 4 of our party, and lived up to the billing of our waiter. The main courses were well prepared and filling, I would recommend this place to anyone"

  • "The Amaya is a beautiful restaurant at The Grand. The food is excellent, the service is both efficient and friendly, and the ambience is great. We all asked for a Cobb salad but with shrimps instead of chicken (we've done this before!), and it was really tasty - in fact our server thought they ought to put it on the menu! If the weather is warm, sit outside, as that is really a beautiful setting."

  • "We had a very nice leisurely time over crab cake, salmon salad, and cheesecake. Everything was delicious."

  • "What a great find. Wonderful ambience and food for my husband's birthday. Loved that there is a separate vegetarian menu in a fine dining establishment. Outstanding customer service. Eat in or out, both areas are comfortable and beautiful. We had a romantic and sweet brunch and will be back!"

  • "I picked this restaurant for our anniversary dinner because of its largely positive reviews on both OpenTable and Yelp. However, it did not live up to its expectations. We received barely any service because we sat outside. It was a very romantic and beautiful environment, but we didn't see our waiter for the first fifteen minutes, didn't have drink menus, and waited for about half an hour between our appetizer and entrees. The waiter gave us a complimentary round of drinks, but it wasn't quite enough to remedy the situation. The food was decent, but definitely not something we'd come back for considering the service we received. If you come, DO NOT sit outside or you will be forgotten."

  • "This was a great way to spend a special occasion. We definitely will return."

  • "I LOVE the Amaya Grill, however I was very disapointed in the quality of their Valentines prefixed dinner. Typically the food is wonderful and you can't go wrong whatever you order. I don't know if it was because of the heavy voluume of diners they expected, or just plain old holiday greed. At $135.00 per person (without wine pairing) portions were tiny, tiny, and the quality absolutely DID NOT live up to it's normal every day fare. Service was exceptional as always, just such a shame about the food. If you go to the Amaya Grill to dine any other time, great. I'd stay away, at least, for Valentines Day."

  • "Dinner was okay, but there was a lack of attentiveness and attention to detail. Not what I expected for a $360 meal for two. I ordered my entrée without goat cheese, and it came with the goat cheese. I mentioned it kindly at the end of the meal (since the server never came back while we were eating), and was told that "goat cheese is an acquired taste." I stated that is exactly the reason I had requested the meal without goat cheese. The server gave a very noncommittal (and passive) response: "Well, a mistake must have been made." They ended up taking the entrée off the bill, but more attention to detail would have avoided the mistake. I wonder if the servers would have been more attentive if my colleague and I were men?"

  • "I am not sure if they changed chefs but I was not as excited about the menu selections. My husband had the clay pot fish ( can't remember what kind of fish) but not memorable and the sauce for the pork chop was Ok. The service was great as always and very accmodating. Probably would give it another try. But would certainly check the menu on their web site before returning"

  • "We have eaten several times at Amaya. The atmosphere and service are excellent and previously the food was good although servings were not especially generous. On this occasion we ordered beet salads which were ok and opted to split an order of seabass. Each plate had two bites of fish and a little garnish. The plate may have consisted of 50 calories maximum. It was such a small amount of food for half an entree as to look like a joke. I've never had an appetizer as small. The food on both plates together was a tiny serving. Because we were dining with friends we didn't say anything to the waiter or make a complaint. It's just unpleasant to do that."

  • "It was for my hubby's birthday. My in-laws wanted a lovely place that provided that pampered feeling. Amaya had no problems finding our OpenTable reservation. Unfortunately at the 11:30AM time slot most of the 4 person tables were occupied and regardless where we sat it would be noisy. Once everyone left, it was more enjoyable. The patio view was peaceful and elegant. The food was delicious but expensive (i.e. My brioche french toast costed $16 but was topped with fresh banana slices, a chocolate-hazelnut sauce, and toasted hazelnuts. It was delicious. My husband had the dungeness crab benedict which costed $21). My in-laws liked that the dessert for the birthday boy was complimentary. The service was excellent."

  • "We visited Amaya for San Diego Restaurant Week and received excellent service from a very attentive staff. The selection of entrees offered included roasted duck and red snapper which were cooked to perfection and paired well with first course selections of scallops and lentil stew w/quail. Dessert is always a sweet treat at Amaya. Overall, a very nice dining experience at the Grand Del Mar."

  • "The food, wine, and dessert couldn't live up to the service the staffs provided. The impression of the hotel and all the staffs at this restaurant make us feels like were in a fine dinning; however, the foods reminded me of my company's holiday party at the Holiday Inn. Tasted like pre-made meal. Disappointed with their wine pairing menu, it's not fine."

  • "Impeccable service, attentive staff from the moment of first contact. Customer comes first, and food presentation is only matched by each flavorful bite. Went for the ambience and was not disappointed. Scallops and filet were absolutely delicious!"

  • "I didn't know it was restaurant week and they had a fixed menu. At first I was disappointed as I wanted to try some of their regular items, but they had a varied selection and allthe ones my party and I had were excellent."

  • "We went to Amaya for my wife's bday. Great place. While the food menu was limited, the food and ambience was excellent. It is tucked away in Del Mar and you feel like you are in an upscale Tuscan restaurant."

  • "Food, drink, and service were very good at Amaya. Our party of four had dinner here before attending the New Year's Eve party at The Grand Del Mar"

  • "The food is always great, and my friend also loved the place."

  • "The prices were certainly Grand, and the location was actually East of what I think of as Del Mar. I guess Christmas Day among overstated opulence has its price, but I thought $50+ for 5 small shrimp in a broth with no spoon, a waffle, and a small candy bar (Yule Twig?) was a bit much. It might have been more honest to charge admission to the grounds, and discount the food."

  • "I treated a client to lunch at Amaya--everything was absolutely perfect... I was very impressed and I will definitely return to this restaurant. Highly recommended."

  • "Valet service is the primary reason I did not rate a 5-star. The valet did not allow our out-of-town guests, world travelers and Relais & Châteaux members, an option to self-park their brand new 50th anniversary porsche in the valet lot. Apparently, unsatisfactory valet service is common at this resort. We were surprised when we arrived at Club M valet for a birthday celebration in November, two guys stood there chatting amongst themselves without making a move toward the car to open both doors. Once the valet took our porsche, the two guys then moved toward to the entrance to open the front doors....really? Not Relais & Châteaux quality."

  • "The Grand Del Mar and Amaya are gorgeous places but are not stuffy or snooty (actual restaurant area can be quite noisy...and I would add that on our visit we were oddly passed off among three main waiters). Everyone from the minute you enter is solicitous and wonderful. The food is delicious and perfectly portioned and the wine list interesting. The parlor/piano area is appealing, too, although drink service there could be better. Really Lovely And Elegant!"
