A word from Amali
Amali is a sustainably driven Mediterranean restaurant. Rather than write about ourselves, we prefer to let the press speak for us.

Wine Enthusiast, Top 100 Wine Restaurants in the Country, 2014

Eater 38 Essential New York Restaurants 2013-2014
"This handsome Mediterranean restaurant serves one of the city's top brick chickens, and the seafood, pasta dishes, and charcuterie are just as good. Amali is...a destination for Greek wine enthusiasts."

Critic's Recommendation, New York Times, 2012: "Amali has a commitment to seasonality and sustainability and a daring wine list."

Two Stars, New York Magazine, 2012: "It gives over a whole section of the menu to salads and vegetables along with an impressive wine bottle list."

Wine & Spirits Magazine, Top Newcomer. "Amali takes an American approach to Mediterranean ingredients, creating something that is at once more Greek than any restaurant and less ethnic than any of them."

We ordered a wine, and the after tasting it, the sommelier said it was not good. She was very gentle and recommended another one in the same price range and same flavor profile. The food was delicious - I had the Spaghetti Vongole, and my mom had the Bolognese Tagliatelly. Both were very good.

Reservation at 5:30. Didn't get dinner till 6:30 although mentioned we had theater at 7. Limited menu. Most foods 'spicy'. Bills self as Mediterranean but could have fooled us. Pasta +clams had cheesy sauce. initially mistaken for a pesto. Ribs good, steak tough. Expensive for what it is, quality of food and atmosphere.

We'll be back for sure. Very diverse menu but at the same time, it's extremely focused. Something for everyone as well. We went in with the chicken, the ribs and the spaghetti which followed an amazing roasted beet appetizer and a phenomenal charcuterie plate. Get in here people.

For many years I have enjoyed this restaurant as a Greek Taverna, but every decade or so it goes through a name change and perhaps a new owner. In the past I had dinner at Amali which included wonderful fresh fish and as I recall, the portions were plentiful. This time I was there for lunch on a weekday with three guests and the service was somewhat slow and sleepy even though the restaurant itself was about 80% full. There was no lunch menu, which surprised me; the waitress said everything is served a la carte. Two of us ordered lamb-burgers ($18) which were not only delicious but substantial in size; the vegan salad was minimal ($15), but my pasta with bolognese sauce was definitely meagre in quantity ($25). I will not be going back.

27 of us gathered from all over the country for brunch. While communication was imperfect, Amali made every effort to meet our needs. The events manager even came over on his day off to make sure things went well. That gesture was appreciated. The food was slightly different than described but very tasty and the service respectful and responsive.

Unfortunately at lunch on the weekend they limit you to a brunch menu which is very limited. The menu is egg heavy, not my choice for a 1pm Saturday lunch. The salumi which we shared was delicious and fresh but not very big for the price.

Having done some research on where to eat in NYC while on a weeks holiday, I'm so glad that Amali was near the top of my list. Not far from my hotel it appears to me that it is a rare gem in the area. Starting at the bar in was clear that there was a great selection and that the staff was knowledgable, giving us his recommendations on the perfect gin for our pre dinner drinks. The restaurant offers tastes of the med with a leaning towards modern Greek cuisine. I was delighted by a gorgeous white wine, from the Peloponnese, that complimented the perfectly prepared fresh fish main course beautifully. Whether you are a local or visiting this great city Amali is a must and I would recommend it to all my foodie friends.

Our group of five enjoyed our meal in the back room of this smallish restaurant. Our server was personable, attentive and his suggestions were right on the money. We started with the octopus, heavy on garlic and flavorful, really delicious even for non-octopus enthusiasts. We split a sausage and cheese plate and olives, farro salad -- all were delicious. I enjoyed a scallop, clam and mussel dish similar to white bouillabaisse... it was subtle but flavorful. The white wine varietal from Greece was not the norm and was fantastic. My friends raved about the pappardelle and the ribs. Overall high quality preparation, interesting variations and professional staff. Would recommend without hesitation.

I believe it was billed as a Greek Restaurant, however the menu was far from Greek. It was more of a traditional menu with fish, meat pasta and chicken. The food was well prepared, the service was attentive, the restaurant was full, but the acoustics were terrible. They need to soundproof their ceiling so the noise is absorbed. Hate having to shout to hear my companions conversations over dinner.

The menu is nice however not many chicken or beef choices. The service is trained but a tad awkward and need some polishing. The portion size is is sort of small. The food is slightly over salted. The food was good, borders on being a place that could be memorable. The ambience is fantastic. In its price range there are so many places I'd try first before going back. There wasn't enough on the menu that I felt compelled to go back nor was the food that good to go back. If you need a cute, not loud place to eat in its area I'd say go to Amalii.

He didn't hover yet was there to offer great service. He even let us know that we were entitled to a pre-theatre discount since we were on our way to 57 e57 theatre. I don't think that I was ever told that before by a waiter. We will go back another night and dine at 8:00 or 8:30pm.

Thoroughly enjoyed the food and service at Amali. We each had a fish dish which were extremely tasty, though I would hesitate to repeat as I don't care to wrestle with bones. That said, my fish dish was amongst the tastiest and best prepared i have had in many years. The side dishes, including the flatbread and the salad were unique and a pleasure to eat. The service was more than attentive and friendly. And when the owner became aware of our commentary regarding fish bones he made sure to provide complimentary after dinner aperitifs, which was a professional move on his part. The only disappointment, - the coffee, which we would not order again. We were told that the restaurant would indeed be changing their coffee purveyor.

We dined at Amali based on a recommendation from somebody who had lived in NYC for more than a decade. While it is true that you could eat your way through the city, this place made the short list of places not to miss. It did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and unique, and the atmosphere was a welcomed contrast to the hustle and bustle found in much of the city. The prices reflect the quality of the presentations. Highly recommended to anybody looking for a truly delicious meal.

I must admit I was very disappointed. The salad was very good but the meal went downhill from there. The fish was dry and tasteless. I hardly touched it usually the waiter will ask if it was all right given that I hardly touched it. Maybe it was what I chose but I would not risk going back to give it another try. I don't think that any of the above choices to recommend the restaurant apply.

The seasonal flatbread was delicious, and they had a special ravioli with grilled corn that was to die for. The chef did a great job of staying seasonal, keeping dishes a bit lighter, and we were not disappointed with one thing that was served. The waiters were absolutely perfect, and made the experience that much better! With that said, make sure you don't end up in the back room...we were seated there first, and while it has an open ceiling, the ambiance is very poor. There is a musky/cellar smell, that I am sure will go with time, but the lighting was very bright! Everything outside of the first seating was perfect, they were extremely accommodating the second we requested to move into the front room! I would DEFINITELY recommend.

Amali has a farm like rustic decor but is elegant at the same time. The service is courteous and explains food selections to you. We shared the salami, dry cured sausage, cheese choice appetizer. This was excellent. My entree was the parsley pappardelle Bolognese which was delightful, and my wife had the braised lamb shoulder, which was also delightful. The meal was finished with a sticky chocolate beet cake. The cocktails from the bar are to die for. The front room is colorful and lively. All in all, I would recommend this new restaurant.

Our NYC resident niece recommended Amali, and she knows her stuff! A charming little place with clean, modern lines and an excellent shortish menu. I hardly ever order chicken "out", but the Amali version of "chicken baked under a brick" appealed to me. It was FABULOUS - luscious, juicy, crispy and beautifully seasoned skin - literally, THE BEST! My vegetarian niece had an octopus (squid?) dish that she declared "delicious", and my husband's braised lamb shank was also a winner. Kudos all around. We've already started sending our Baltimore friends to Amali when they hit the Big Apple. Oh, and nobody rushed us at all when we were the last ones in the restaurant and lingering over coffee and dessert. Thanks, Amali!

Not knowing what brick chicken was I was prepared for all possibilities - as it turned out is a fantastic, flavoursome and moist way to enjoy chicken - highly recommended! My only comment is that NY restaurants in general don't seem to get the idea of GF - are there no coeliacs in the US - makes options very limiting.
