A word from Amali

The name Amali refers to a historical region that encompassed much of the modern day Mediterranean.

Our menu highlights ingredients vital to the Mediterranean tradition - locally sourced and seasonal vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, cheese, lamb and fish.

Our wine list… consists of over 275 selections with a focus on organic, biodynamic and vin natural wines.

Mapos LLC created our interior look. In keeping with Amali and Mapos’ philosophy, almost all the materials inside Amali are repurposed from New York City buildings (including our own) and practically every item was crafted by people who live and work in New York City. Some of them serve food at our restaurant.

Amali is owned by James Mallios, Nicola Kotsoni and Steve Tzolis (Il Cantinori, Periyali and Bar Six). Continued

"Amali is the rare gem where the atmosphere, hosting, food and decor all meet in unison. From the lit sign outside with 'very now' twitter/facebook/tumblr mentions to the menu ranging from 'the best you ever had cauliflower" to spicy eggplant, melt in your mouth cheese/mushroom crostini to cavatelli/chilis/clams...roasted meat and hamachi that makes Morimoto jealous, even a noted wine list - this newish spot does not disappoint. Now going weekly, we only hope it does not become too popular too fast so that we can't get a table in the heavy up Spring dining out nights ahead...."

"I had the branzino for lunch. It was the smallest portion of fish I have ever been served. Beautifully cooked and delicious but miniscule.
The restaurant brought the entree on a huge plate with about one fourth of the plate bearing food. It was incredibly meager. The salad
was delicious.

I thought the person who greeted us when we entered and then interrupted our conversation at one point to check a coat was brusque. I didn't actually feel welcomed when I arrived and the interruption was just another minor incident that made me feel less than welcome. I would not return."

"Amali had a private room available for our Easter brunch. It was a generous, light-filled space that we could re-arrange to suit our needs. The food was simply wonderful, fresh, interesting herbs, fabulous cocktails, friendly service."

"I was looking for a meal with organic ingredients but that is not hippie vegan food and this place delivered; everything was incredibly fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and luscious but not too heavy. It was delicious. We had to wait (just a few minutes) for our table despite having a reservation, and our middle table got bumped a lot by staff moving through the aisle (try to get a booth), but the host offered free dessert for the inconvenience and the servers were very friendly."
