A word from Amalfi Ristorante Italiano
Established in 1977 Amalfi is a True Family Owned & Operated Restaurant. We offer dishes from both northern and southern Italy. We also have extensive Gluten Free and Vegetarian options along with a few Vegan options as well. With everything being made from scratch to order we can please any customer. We take pride in doing all the work ourselves and strive to have the very best restaurant in town. Moe Jr. is the head chef, John serves tables, Teresa hosts and Moe Sr. overlooks the operation. Moe Sr. and Teresa started Amalfi over 36 years ago and now the two sons are in control and have taken Amalfi to the next level. We have now upgraded all of our meats to all natural products. From all natural chicken to milk fed veal, even our sausage is all natural. The majority of our meals are now made to order to ensure optimal freshness and quality. Come in and see why they say, "Once you visit Amalfi you may never leave!"Continued

  • "This time I went with a buddy so he could try their wagyu steak. Again it was cooked to perfection and served with that awesome smashed potato with crispy prosciutto. My buddy was sure that I was exaggerating about it being the best but you know what? He ate his words and loved it. He agreed it is the best steak he'd ever had as well. We also got the Lamb Osso Bucco and upgraded the side to an order of their famous Tortellini in a mushroom cream sauce. The lamb was so tender you could just pull it off the bone with your fork and the piece was freaking huge. Their mushroom cream sauce is one of the tastiest sauces I've had. Very rich but sooooooo good. I wanted to save room for dessert but we were just too stuffed. Amalfi Rocks!!!"

  • "This restaurant is easily the best in all of DC. My friend from LA insist on going to Amalfi every time he is in town and lucky for me he was in town this past weekend and as always the food and service were over the top. We started with the calamari appetizer which is a MUST and as always it was superb! So fresh and light. I had the "special" steak with the smash potato and all I can say is if they ever have this special again I will definitely get it since it was hands down the best steak I have ever eaten. My friend had their pizza and he is still talking about how good it was. As always the service was top notch and our waitress made us feel like we were the only customers in the place. If you haven't been to Amalfi yet GO!!"

  • "I was looking for a restaurant that would take a reservation for 12 on a busy Saturday night. After making the reservation through Open Table the restaurant called because they saw in my note that I had requested a quiet or private area for the group. The restaurant suggested we move our reservation back slightly and, by doing so, we go a terrific area that was perfect for us. I greatly appreciated this pro-active approach. The food and service were terrific! Don't be fooled by the location, this is a terrific restaurant!"

  • "It was a bit noisy on Friday night. So glad we made reservations as when we left people were lined out the door."

  • "Amalfi looks exactly as you would expect a traditional Italian restaurant to look. The interior appears rustic and genuine. Although I was not overly impressed with the food, the service was fantastic and very friendly. I would return if in that area again."

  • "this restaurant has made a marked improvement over the last 9 months. the food is very good. one person in our party has shrimp parmesan with large shrimp that was excellent. another member enjoyed the goat cheese ravioli. the vegetables of broccoli and mushrooms were delicious and the tiramasu was especially tasty and freshly made. a reasonably priced dinner for four."

  • "Found this family owned & operated Italian restaurant on the internet. After reading the rave reviews, I knew this was the place to go. We were 3 couples & we all thoroughly enjoyed our selections. I had their cod which was great with a wonderful marinara sauce accompanying it & I ordered the broccoli and asparagus which was very tasty with a bit of butter and Parmesan sprinkled lightly on it. The others had salmon, veal Marsala and a pesto pasta dish. All the plates were empty when we were finished! We also had their white pizza for a shared appetizer which was great. The pear salad was amazing, wish I had the recipe. We had a wonderful leisurely meal served by the attentive & jovial Johnny, son of the owners. He is a shining star there."

  • "Amalfi's is a genuine Italian Restaurant. Family owned and operated, you know that you're not getting anything that might have been in a sealed package to be microwaved like at a big chain restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was excellent. We weren't rushed at any time and were able to enjoy a relaxing and delicious meal. The only problem is being able to find it. A GPS unit in your car is very helpful as Amalfi's is in an industrial park, and even with a GPS I drove rigth past it and had to come back."

  • "I am no Italian, but Olive Garden just won't do. We went to the restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary over lunch. The server was very nice and helpful. I told her that we were here for the first time and she highlights the popular items on the menu for us. We ordered pear salad, chicken, and eggplant parmagina. All very good. And the dissert (Tiramusi) was wonderful too. Will go back for more!"

  • "Delicious meal. Wonderful attentive service. Crispy caneloni outstanding. This is a place that takes pride in the food it serves. ought to be called Osteria Amalfi because diners feel like guests and want to return."

  • "John is an energetic waiter that keeps going and does a great job making his folks place a reliable destination for a good meal. The cod was a bit small for the price this time, but the lamb osso buco was delicious. This was our 6-month anniversary of our first trip to Amalfi, and we were by chance seated at the same table and had John as our waiter. Very enjoyable!"

  • "Outstanding service from Jeremy, he made for a special evening. To begin the salad was fresh crisp with the house dressing excellent. The white pizza app is a no brainer here made well done it cant be beat. The best eggplant parm anywhere, very lightly breaded just amazing flavor. Chicken parm is also a winner. We were extremely happy."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyable. Cod special was superb. Excellent potato leek soup. Salads delicious. Fresh and not overdressed. Chickensala, chicken parm, fett. alf., tortellini in porcini sauce. All delicious. Great ambiance. Not elegant but much nicer than a strip mall Italian joint. Lots of family pride evident throughout. We'll be back soon."

  • "We were in Washington for a conference and found the Amalfi on openbook. It's not necessarily where you would expect to find a good restaurant, but the food was very good, the wine list short, but the quality of the wine we had was really good. All three courses we had were excellent."

  • "It's not a beautiful place, but the food is always good and more creative than you would expect from a family style Italian restaurant. Even the salads were unusually fresh and tasty, Kale, pomegranit with sauteed mushrooms and a yummy light dressing."

  • "Such a good rating I had to try. Didn't disappoint. App of fresh, hand-made mozerella with tomato. The mozerrella was the best I'd ever had. The bread was great, obviously made in house. The wine, Borgo(?) pinot noir, was blah. I had organic salmon, and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I got the vegetable side in lieu of a starch, and it was brocolli, and perfect--not over nor under cooked. It was paired with some mushrooms, which I normally pass on, but these were so good I ate them all. The salmon was served over asparagus, also perfectly cooked. My wife had the chicken park, which she liked a great deal. We shared the Lemoncello cake and strawberry ice cream, both home made and fantastic, and paired better than it sounded."

  • "This is definitely a hidden gem that's been around for years. We discovered it recently, and this is our second (or third) time back...and there will be more. John (owner's son and waiter) left a very good impression on us, as did the food. It's not your "cheapo italian-style restaurant" food, but very interesting dishes and favorite stand-bys. Try them out, but use Open Table because there are waits if you don't on the weekend."

  • "Amalfi is located in a spot that does not seem like a place to find good basic Italian food but that is exactly what they have. The staff is always friendly and attentive every time we go there, and the specials are really that, special. This time I had a whole flounder that was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The limoncello mascarpone cake was great too, and a dessert we don't recall seeing anywhere else. It's not a big place so reservations are a good idea if you want to go during prime time. They've been there for decades and there is a good reason for it. Good food, reasonable prices and a friendly staff are a winning combination."

  • "What an amazing find!!! Went on a crazy busy Saturday night and still everything was perfect. A true family restaurant where mom & dad sat us, the son(John who was super friendly and entertaining) waited on us and the other son is the chef. I ordered the Steak on his recommendation and it had to be one of the best steaks I've ever had. How the chef turned a sirloin into what cut like a filet is beyond me. The smashed potato that came with it was topped with smoked crispy prosciutto and was simply awesome. My girlfriend got the Chicken Marsala after John went on a 5 minute rant on how all the chicken was prepared. It had to be the most tender and juicy chicken we've had. Seriously I now know the secret to the food at Amalfi, it's Magic :)"

  • "I've been going to Amalfi's for many years. The food is consistently good, their daily specials are excellent. This may be one of the few restaurants left where you can have a conversation without shouting. The owners are friendly and accommodating. It's always a pleasant evening and a satisfying dining experience."

  • "As usual, this is one of the best Italian restaurants and will give you a unique experience from the moment you walk in the door. The food is fantastic and "Happy John" will make the ordering experience and wait for your food seem as entertaining as ever! But with all restaurants, it comes down to food... And Amalfi is the best! As authentic as it gets and I would highly recommend trying out this hidden gem In Rockville. There's a reason it's been family owned for 37 years!"

  • "Loved the food and service. Was completely shocked when getting bill that the bottle of wine we brought cost us 25$ to drink. It turned a 12$ bottle of wine into a $37 bottle. I've paid corkage fees before, but never even close to that high. I will only be dining at amalfis again on Wednesday nights now... Outside of that the food and service was great ."

  • "We were able to get a table for seven on a Saturday night and all of us were happy with our evening. The highlight was the server, John, who maintained an incredibly friendly, high energy approach. He detailed the most popular dishes and explained why they were favorites. We enjoyed the white pizza and mushroom tortellini and were surprised to have a kale salad with pomegranate at such a traditional Italian restaurant--delicious! Amalfi's serves gluten-free pasta and has several vegetarian dishes which satisfied the needs of our group. We had never eaten here before and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service of our waiter."

  • "Yes.. after 30 yrs of living in the NE area we returned and now live and work here again. We went to Amalfi for Valentine's Day because we used to go often way back when. we had calamari for appetizer, Linguine with crab, cheese ravioli, a carafe of Chianti. All was very good with ample portions and flavor. One particular note was that the fried calamari, although a light tempura-like batter was used, was tough and chewy, and the batter had no flavor. Service was very good."

  • "I had eaten here probably twenty years ago and really had no reason to go back. Well it certainly has changed for the better. Our meal was delicious. I got the tortellini with a light mushroom sauce, my Mom got the eggplant parm and my husband got a chicken marsala dish. All were excellent. We got the white cheese pizza as an appetizer, because reviewers had suggested it. I thought it was very good. The waiter was extremely helpful, telling us which dishes are best and which pasta is homemade. The fettucine noodles in the side dish were too heavy and blah. Next time we'll get a thinner noodle with a meat tomato or white sauce. We will definitely go back soon.Still thinking about the tortellini."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner out with friends! Food was fantastic and absolutely delicious, but even better than the food - was the service. I don't think there is another restaurant in Montgomery County that cares as much about the happiness and the dining experience of their guests! Truly remarkable!!"

  • "There's no particular reason, but we hadn't been to Amalfis in many years. We had a 7:00 reservation on a Saturday night and weren't seated until 7:25 which was annoying; however we were treated to an exquisite complimentary dessert for the trouble. BRAVO! I am not a big fan of Italian restaurants, but I can't believe there are too many others that prepare any better meals. Holding a conversation was noticeably comfortable, even though the dining room was at capacity. My wife would have preferred that the lighting be subdued. It was very bright. In any case, the servings were generous, so be prepared for leftovers; and don't forget to order a large white pizza with cheese to take home. We'll be back ... soon."

  • "I dined at Amalfi on Saturday and even though the place was packed the service was top notch, from the busboy Milof (spelling wrong) to my waitress Dragana. They make you feel like you are the only patron in the place when in fact they were servicing so many people. The friendly service along with the amazing food makes this the best restaurant in the area. If you haven't been to Amalfi you are missing out on so much."

  • "We went to celebrate our Aunt's 94th BD and it could not have turned out better. We have been going to Amalfe since it opened many years ago and nothing has changed. Unfortunately we moved 10 years ago and cannot go as often as we would like. The service exceeded our expectation and the food was even better. We started off with the large white stacked fontina pizza and the8 of us ordered different entries. My eggplant parm was as I remembered fresh & fantastic. All enjoyed everything even the wonderful special treat for my Aunt at the end of the evening. Thanks to Amalfi for making this very special occasion a night to remember."

  • "I brought a first date here one evening because of the fantastic food and setting. Neither of these disappointed at all. I had the veal which was prepared perfectly. So many places over cook it so it turns out rubbery; not here though. My date had eggplant. I'm not a fan of eggplant but she said hers was amazing. This is a family owned restaurant that actually cares about what type of experience their customers have. I've been here several times and will continue to come back. Great place for a date."

  • "Amalfi Ristorante is a hidden gem. It has been in business for 30+ years but is located WAY off the beaten path. I never see advertisements or coupons probably because they don't have to solicit business. This family owned restaurant is known to many locals and it appears quite a few are regular diners. New patrons local to the area are surprised to learn of its existence. The service was attentive, the menu provided a variety of options at reasonable costs but most of all, the food was delicious. I highly recommend it and plan to keep this establishment on my list of "go to" places."
