My husband and I tried Amada based on the recommendation of friends who'd recently traveled to philadelphia and ate here. They said "have the chefs selection, don't even look at anything else." They were right. We had so much incredibly wonderful food. They were careful to respect any allergies or food preferences. I can't say enough about the amount and quality of food. It was such an experience. Definitely worth the money if you're in the neighborhood!

Amanda deserves its reputation as one of Philly's best restaurants. We have had dinner there on two occasions and decided on lunch this time. Each of us had two small plates, a dessert, a glass of Sangria and coffee. If someone has a big appetite, I would recommend a third small plate or one of the large plates. The Tortilla Espanola was the best I've eaten outside of Spain. The Grilled Lobster was outstanding as was the Shrimp Revueltos, small grilled shrimp in loosely scrambled eggs, seasoned delicately. The white Sangria at Amada is very special. The Creme Brûlée topped with tart cherries was excellent. Cannot wait to return.

My husband and I traveled to Spain for two weeks. We visited Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, and Jumilla. We fell in love with some of the Spanish dishes. We discovered Amada's, went to their website and saw that the chef had studied in Spain for several years and thought for our anniversary let's enjoy the Spain experience again. Unfortunately for us the food did not emulate what we enjoyed in Spain. The Jamon was salty, the Paella was not like the Paella in Valencia and the tapas weren't what we were expecting. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, I would recommend the restaurant to someone who has never been to Spain but not to someone who has actually traveled to Europe and would be looking for that Spain experience again.

This was our second visit to Amada for a management team dinner. We did the Chef's Tasting - ESPECIAL with wine pairings for our party of four. The energy of the place is wonderful and the food continues to be "over the top". We especially loved the short rib flatbread pizza, the eggplant and fava bean vegetable dish and the chorizo. All the wine pairings were excellent especially the El Molet Valencia that was paired with the items from the grill.

I was a tad apprehensive when I booked Amada for my birthday dinner with out of town family because honestly, Garces restaurants have seemed to have lost their swagger of late, and not wowed me as they did when they opened, but we had a great experience last Sunday. Lots of varied tastes and happy diners. Highlights were lamb meatballs, short rib flat bread, love the simple green salad with FAVA beans, chicken, shrimp.. I thank our knowledgable server for helping steer us.

Cool space and great food. Front room is LOUD. If you want to have a conversation, ask to sit in the back. Everything we ate was fabulous. Service was a bit spotty with long waits for drinks and check, but our waitress was super pleasant and accommodating. Had them make me a plate of pan con tomate even though it wasn't on the menu. This would be one of my "regular" restaurants if I lived in Philly.

We found the food to be very tasty, however the proportions of items on the plate were odd. Mine came with a huge pile of salmon on my plate (almost too much as it was so rich) and two oddly shaped pieces of bread, not shaped properly to put the salmon on. Then there was a tiny side of egg salad which, for a brunch item I would have thought that there would have been more egg. The baked goat cheese; also, lots of tomato sauce for the amount of cheese in the middle and not enough bread to spread the cheese on.

I stumbled across Amada completely by accident and decided that I had to try it just because the menu looked so delicious. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience. The staff was super pleasant and helpful. The drinks were amazing and the food even more amazing! The restaurant was busy but not overly noisy. There was not an empty table by the time we left, but it had a delightful energetic and upbeat feel to it. I will definitely be returning very soon!

We're big fans of Jose Garces, having been to Distrito and Tinto. So we wanted to see what his first place was like, and were not disappointed. The patatas bravas, which are a staple on most tapas menus, were unlike any other tapas restaurants' version, but what do you expect from an Iron Chef? If there was any disappointment, it was the wagyu brochettes, which were somewhat tough, and hardly wagyu-like. Save room for dessert... their date and olive oil ice cream has an abundance of textures and flavors all going on at once.

Plates come out as they are prepared so there is no rushed eating, plenty of time for conversation, and you don't feel stuffed at the end of the meal. There are a variey of dishes and it is fun to share tastes. Highly recommend but don't go if you are in a big hurry!

We enjoyed our evening at Amada. The food was excellent except for one dish which was referred to as a "tortilla" I think. It was a large, puffed, bread-like dish with TONS and TONS of onions in it. Too many to eat it at all. The waiter noticed that we did not really eat it, but did not say anything to us about it. All of the other dishes were great. Bacon wrapped dates, warm olives, chicken with the poached egg, manchego cheese - awesome! The dessert with the doughnuts and the olive oil ice cream is to die for!! Get it! Overall a nice evening and I would definitely return.

I've been to Amada several times with friends during Restaurant Week and have always enjoyed the experience. This time, my husband and I decided to use a Garces Gift Card there (on my insistence of course) and we couldn't have been more pleased! He is a vegetarian (I do fish occasionally) so we asked for the Chef's selection (why not get the best of the best from the person who knows best) and we were thoroughly pleased with each course...dish after dish..after dish..after yet another dish....a continuous serving of delectable delights. By desert we were aching but ready for the final sweet flourish. We had a wonderful dining experience and will most definitely return.

Our reservation was late, 9:15p, so we were really hungry at that point and went a little early to see if we could be seated around 9p. They accommodated us and gave us a table at the bar. Probably should have waited for a better table. The service was not great. While our waiter recommended some excellent dishes for us, we didn't really see much of her or get that warm receptive feeling from her. She seemed too busy. The octopus was awesome. I wish I had gotten more of the braised short rib flatbread and the chicken was surprisingly delicious especially with the egg on top! Would definitely go here again.

This restaurant was probably the worst restaurant I have EVER gone to!...The waitress was great but the food was awful. We should have realized when the complimentary "tuna" appetizer was nothing more than dark tuna out of a can ...out of seven dishes not one was enjoyable...In fact at one point my husband actually covered the food with a dish so I wouldnt have to look at it anymore....Seriously! I thought for a minute being from NY maybe we are just used to eating at the best of the best, but no I cant imagine anyone thinking this food was Good ....Do yourself a favor and go somewherelse!

Perhaps it was the food we chose... 2/3 of them were a bit salty. I did love the grilled scallops. Gazpacho was refreshing. Lamb meatball and chorizo with biscuits were good but salty. One thing I'm not sure why was that the food was brought up one dish/course at a time, even though there were two of us. Nothing against the service but it was just strange. However, it probably helped us feel full because it really stretched out the meal time. Overall, with the price tag, it was good but I was not wowed.

Food was very good. Service was disorganized and spotty with a lot of runners. I recommend the restaurant, but, caution not to set expectations for other than 3.8 to 4 stars. It lacks the service details and care (one example, sloppy painting in restroom on push pad) for a higher rating. We liked the gambas. fideos con mariscos, aged manchego. The red and white sangria was excellent. The rose watermelon was too sweet and tasted like a jolly rancher.

Disappointed after our recent dinner here. We highly enjoyed our first visit here 6 months ago. This time while experience was ok it did not have the wow factor the first did. Some service issues that I can chalk up to a busy Saturday night. However when two of the eight plates you ordered sucked I would say this was not a five star dining experience . The two dishes were the garlic shrimp ( way to salty and no taste of garlic) and the clams In broth ( clams were to small and overpowered by a less then stellar broth.

Our experience at Amada was a pleasant one. Wait staff was friendly, quick and accommodating. We ordered six dishes for two people and it was more than enough. Favorite dishes included the goat cheese and tomato with basil, and the spicy fries. I ordered the black cod and was slightly disappointed by the less than crisp skin and bland flavor. Overall, it was a decent spot to visit when in the Old City/Society Hill section of Philly.

This is our second (for me) and third (for my husband) time at Amada. We chose it particularly and were not disappointed. We had a night without family - just the two of us - and with the help of our efficient and helpful server, picked a handful of winners from the tapas menu and a variety of wonderful wines by the glass. The salad, the flatbread and the shrimp were standouts, but each item was yummy. Waiting for the next trip to Philly.

We first visited Amada almost two years ago. It was a great experience. We could not wait to go again. So, we did. The experience was EXACTLY the same. We ordered the Chef's special again. And, wouldn't you know... the EXACT same dishes were brought out - almost in the same order. We were both extremely surprised. I would expect some changes in a menu over the course of two years - especially when ordering the "Chef's Special."

The food was incredibly salty. And I love salt! 2 of the dishes - the steak and the calamari were almost inedible. Our waitress cleared our table before our last dish was served and when it arrived the poached egg was hard boiled. Disappointing food but a lovely restaurant. Will not be rushing back again
