Diner Reviews
  • "After seeing so many glowing reviews of the food at Amada, I booked a table for an anniversary celebration. The ambience was wonderful, albeit a little loud and crowded. We tried the jamon serrano (delicious), tortilla espanola (delicious, but a bit heavy), lamb meatballs (too gamy for me, hubby liked them), spicy potatoes (yummy, but not at all spicy), and grilled wagyu beef (hubby tried first piece and couldn't chew it, so we returned the order). So, while it was a nice dinner, we found the food to be a bit disappointing. Our waitress was a delight, though, as were the margarita and sangria we drank."

  • "We had the chefs tasting. It was an adventure. The good was excellent. Service was impeccable."

  • "I have been to Amada well over a dozen times but I had not been back in about 4 years now (until last week). I must say, it seems not much has changed and that is a very good thing. Same menu, still amazingly executed; different staff but great service all the same. Love their pork, flatbreads and just about everything else."

  • "Tapas were excellent. Service slow at lunch, waited 20 minutes without speaking with the wait staff."

  • "Very attentive without rushing. The food was very good, the service way above average."

  • "this restaurant for food, ambience, service & as something a little different. It was just a shame that they forgot our main course, but handled correcting it very well."

  • "Went there with two friends from Europe and I anticipated great food and service. Was disappointed in both."

  • "I had a reservation for 2 at 6pm and dropped my dining partner off at exactly 6pm while I parked. I got in at 6:10 to the hostess saying that since the full party wasn't present the other guest was sat at the bar and now we would now have to wait at least 30 minutes for a table. We were just a party of two and had a reservation over a week in advance. We were sat at a high table near the bar facing a tacky "gift shop" wall of sorts. We each got a cocktail, both were very good, I had the Matador and liked it quite a bit. The food, however, I found very lackluster. I am very surprised by how much hype this place gets. I wish I had gone to Buddakan right down the street, which makes this place look like an over priced Applebee's."

  • "We've been to Amada a few times and it has always been great. Our waiters have always been very helpful, the food, wine and cocktails have always been amazing!"
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The restaurant is not large and with the high cielings and wood floors the noise level at a busy hour makes conversation across a table a challenge and so any sort of intimate dining experience is not possible. The food and small servings suit a long and relaxed experience of nibbling and drinking. This place is not for someone looking to sit down for a big meal. The ALL Tappas menu has some very nice and intriguing dishes with a wide selection. The food is prepared well and served fresh from the chef so it is at the temperature it should be. Some dishes are better than others but most are very good. The prices are fairly high given the very small servings. With drinks and food expect to pay $50-60 per person plus tip."

  • "Food not up to usual standards at Garces restaurant. Scallops overseasoned. Lamb chops overdone. Pretty loud. Would still go back but not in a rush."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "We ordered the Chef's choice with 3 courses. The food was amazing and we loved every bit of it. The service was excellent and they described each dish as it was served."

  • "Enjoyed the decor, the food and the service. Servings are very small and even though it is reasonably priced, you need to order a lot if you're hungry. So all in all it's average price, but very good quality food and nice team. Highly recommended."

  • "My daughter and I had a wonderful brunch. Our server was knowledgable and chose our Chef's plate to our liking. The wine pairing was superb. My main feedback is that the food was brought out too quickly."

  • "Food is very clever and delicious. The location and ambiance is wonderful. Service lacking at higher level. Line servers did their best."

  • "Who would think small plates would work for brunch, but they do. We started with a prosciutto fig salad which was fabulous. Other courses were great and we especially liked the soft scrambled eggs with shrimp. The cost of 4 dishes and two Bloody Mary's was about $75... More than we usually spend but it was a delicious and memorable meal."

  • "Excellent food in small plate fashion of Tapas so great if you like to try more courses but don't want to get stuffed - avg plate 7-14 /"

  • "There wasn't anything that my group didn't enjoy. The three of us ordered the chorizo Pamplona, garlic shrimp, ham salad, lamb meatballs, and the artichoke flatbread. All of it was absolutely amazing and made to be shared. There wasn't any specific order they just brought the dishes out one at a time and everyone grabbed their fill. Easily one of my top ten restaurants if not top five. For dessert we had two orders of cheesecake and one of the chocolate cake. Both fantastic. Not only was the food awesome, but the waitstaff were all extremely attentive and friendly. Overall an amazing experience and I will not hesitate to return next time I am in Philly."

  • "Amada always lives up to my expectations and never disappoints. Amada is my choice for special occasions. A Christmas season dinner here every year with my family. Dinner for two last night and everything was perfect. The food is amazing, fresh ingredients prepared to maximize the flavor and enjoyment. The white sangria is my beverage of choice."

  • "In a nut shell the restaurant food was good the waitress was not. We told her from the beginning my husband is deathly allergic to tree nuts. We ordered tasting menu. Asked if we could have nothing spicy & no sea food. She said the chef requests that if you have too many changes to order off the menu. So we ordered a few things separate. At one point we sat for 20 min waiting for food while everyone around us was being served continuously. At the end of the meal the waitress brought out a fried treat with white flakes on top. My husband and I took a small piece. I asked if those were almonds. She said yes! She said "that is for you". Nothing about it being nuts! A man came out and apologized. Hubby had a reaction but is okay now."

  • "The tapas menu ay Amada is simple, refined, delicious, and allows you to be adventurous without being disappointed. Servings are adequate but not large. Perfect for two people, could become very pricey with more people. The Sangria is refreshing and not sweet, both white and red were went down easy! I went for lunch, and would go back for dinner. Also, very good service. Attentive but not pushy. Professional."

  • "Whenever we visit Philadelphia or Atlantic City we always book a table at Amada. Why? Because the food is that damn good! The recommend each person order 3 tapas. Being the pigs we are we each ordered 4 LOL The spicy potatoes, lamb meatballs chickpeas and spinach as well as other dishes. I'm still salivating and we ate there 2 days ago. The wait staff is very friendly. The wine list is very impressive. Do yourself a favor. Get some of your friends together and book a table at Amada. You'll love it!!"

  • "We dined as a group (6 of us) for my son's birthday. The food was very good, although the portions were small. Very tasty and a nice mix of flavors. We shared about 15 tapas and several dishes. We especially enjoyed the organic-ness of many ingredients. The ambience was also very nice but it felt a little tight for our group. I will revisit for another occasion."

  • "Amada's attractive, with a great location in the Old City/Independence Park area. My wife and I, who lived in Spain for four years and know Spanish cooking well, were expecting a traditional tapas place. Amada has many of the tapas you'd expect on its menu, but judging from the ones we sampled, that chef (who's Ecuadorian) has put his own accent on many of them, so you don't get exactly what you'd expect. They're good, but they won't necessarily remind you of Barcelona or San Sebastian. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. The bill was a little higher than I'd expect for tapas. Must be a popular place; we were looking for a pre-theatre meal, and the latest table we could book a table a couple days before was at 5:15!"

  • "One of the best restaurants in all of Philadelphia. Outstanding food (not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for), terrific service. For my wife and me, it's the "go to" place when we celebrate our anniversary. If you want quieter dining, ask to be seated away from the bar."

  • "This was the second time that we visited Amada. The food was excellent both times even though we ordered the chefs selections both times, this last time was a Friday during Lent so we ordered vegetarian and I was not disappointed. In fact, I think I liked the vegetarian choices better."

  • "We did the chef's choice course menu and the accompany wine list. Everything was great. The wait staff was friendly, informative and energentic. The array of foods were beautiful, different and well paired in each course. We had a great time. Thanks!"

  • "This would be my third time at Amada, first for brunch. I will be clear, this was my favorite brunch EVER. I am a foodie, I live in philly, and I am all up in the food scene. I've been to brunch at a a whole bunch of the great places; from the original green eggs to the four seasons. Therefore, you should understand that this recommendation does not come from a person who went out and got pancakes with strawberry topping and became sugar high gitty. Amanda's brunch is not only the best brunch I have ever had, it is broke my top 10 best meal list. Check it out."

  • "We went for my birthday. We had the chef selections. I love octopus but disappointed in the preparation of the tapa (bacon or smoked flavor). I just like little olive oil and lemon. I also was disappointed with the desert sampler with chef meal it did not have much selection or flavor. Overall the other tapas with the meal and the wines were excellent. Would have had a five star but because of the aforementioned issues The waitress we had was friendly and awesome. The atmosphere was fun I would definitely come again"

  • "This is my restaurant in Philadelphia for special occasions. The tapas are excellent and always interesting. Small, delicious, portions to share and to build up over the course of an evening into a memorable meal- which also allow you to experiment beyond your comfort zone. My suggestion to other diners is to order a few dishes at a time and "build" your own dinner. The excellent servers actually seem to enjoy watching you savor a relaxed meal. The only drawback I've noticed is that the front rooms near the bar have a noise level that could blow your head off and is not conducive to conversation while dining. So, ask for the back and enjoy what is one of the best food experiences in Philadelphia."

  • "the catalan lunch deal is fantastic. i had the white bean and ham stew with a pulled pork sandwich. Both of which were amazing."

  • "Our waitress was not good. I do not want to have to teach a waitress during the meal. We had the paella and she left our table dirty with squid ink and a dirty napkin sitting on the table. Our water was not regularly filled."

  • "An old favorite of mine but not frequented much since it's a bit pricey. However, this recent experience proved again that the quality, ambiance, and attention to detail have not changed at all. It is a great venue for special occasions and particularly interesting for large groups given the ability to order a lot of various dishes. What a gem! glad not much has changed."
