  • Mother's Day Brunch

Always a great destination for Mother's Day. Lovely drive to The Hotel Alyeska. Service staff were all friendly and very attentive. $45 brunch pricing was a bit steep, especially considering that mimosas were not included. The layout was comfortable. Hot buffet was fair, noon seating had unfilled chafers Great ambiance with live music in the lobby.

  • Gratuity Charge a Surprise

On New Year's Eve, 2013, our party of four chose to eat at The Ponds Cafe buffet for dinner @ 6pm. Setting aside the fact that the buffet ran short of food, it was the 20% gratuity charge that left us with the decision that we do not expect to return. Typically, a gratuity charge is added to large parties; we were a party of four. Typically, a gratuity charge is added to the bill when there is full-service. It was a buffet. Typically, a 20% gratuity charge is reserved for outstanding service. Again, the buffet was not full-service. In our opinion, the gratuity charge was a hidden cost, and certainly a surprise when we received the bill.

The period from October to mid-November is the shoulder season for the Alyeska Resort, The hotel tried to improve its dining options by opening up the Pond Steakhouse for 5 weeks. It probably should not have bothered. The food was average (The steak quality was OK, but it was not cooked to temperature.) and the service was a disaster. Our server did not appear for 15 minutes after we were seated and only when we asked the hostess if she could find her. The night was salvaged when an unusual drink order brought the Bar Manager to our table. She asked how things were going and we were not shy about detailing our experience. She basically took responsibility for our table going well out of her way, to make the remainder of the evening better.

    Dined on 10/12/2013
I had directly talked to someone over email regarding the seating request, this was after a huge confusion w/ the reservation details and the restaurant actually guaranteed me that me and my husband will actually be dining with the seating that I had requested. When we got there, the hostess, told us that the table meant for us has been occupied. This occasion was special in a way that my husband is in the army and we finally got a weekend to spend time together so we figured going away to the resort and trying out this restaurant was a great idea. Everything else was great, food, waiter service,& a great disappointment goes to the restaurant management. Really? When you guarantee something, make sure you follow through. hence, RESERVATION!

I went to a fantastic wine dinner featureing Caymus Vineyards from Napa Valley. It was very entertaining, great food but the wine was outstanding. Ran into people I had not seen in a long time and met some new fun friends as well. If you get a chance to go to a wine dinner there I highly recommend it.

I have had an excellent experience in the past with Alyeska's Easter Brunch - great food, and many choices. However, the christmas experience was a bust. Very, very limited food choices and the service was lackluster (probably because gratuity was included and they didn't have to try). My worst Alyeska dining experience yet!

  • We've enjoyed holiday brunch
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 12/25/2012
We've enjoyed holiday brunch at the Pond, several times, but I think this year's Christmas was the best to date. The food was varied, unique, and everything was delicious. I was especially impressed at the two trays gluten free desert options; a tray of several different types of cookies and another of parfait and mousse offerings satisfied our sweet teeth and settled us into our Christmas day food coma perfectly. My 7 and 10 year olds were on their best behavior for me, which made my lunch relaxing and enjoyable, but the staff made all there of us feel welcome and at ease, which isn't always the case at higher priced holiday venues such as this. Over all, I was VERY pleased and we're looking forward to Easter!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

It's hard to pull off the Thanksgiving buffet, they did a pretty good job. There was plenty of good, traditional food and some great additions. Dessert was very very disappointing, should not mess with traditional pie for Thanksgiving. You can add to it, but not skip it! Service was ok, lots of picky issues; very slow to refill beverages, and then they charged 20%, on a buffet. The beverages were their only responsibility....that mandatory tip added $40 to the tab for 5 people.

  • Alyeska has the very best
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 11/22/2012
Alyeska has the very best Thanksgiving buffet in the entire area. The food is phenomenal, the view is great when it isn't snowing and being brutal and they go out of their way to see to every detail. That being said, I will be the first to admit that the holidays are for families. However, this does not mean I want to be seated in the middle of YOUR seven grandchildren during a food fight, scream fest or "let's play hide and seek under YOUR table!". After fishing out six kids while the "moms" enjoyed their wine, I was ready to charge a bottle to their table and say it was for "babysitting service". Might I suggest an "adults only" seating, where we who have been through it already might have a little peace and quiet? Thanks so much!

The buffet at the Pond was very good on both the hot and cold food tables. Knowing the wine from a particular vineyard helped with choosing a very good Cab for the dinner and topping it off with some 'to die for' desserts. Compliments to the chef!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

We had a reservation at 7pm, we showed up about 10 minutes early and there was already a crowd of people at the door waiting, they talked with the hostess and then were told that everybody would be seated at 7pm. We were also told the same, this to me was not very smooth way to accommodate a very large crowd of people. By the time they started to seat people there was a very large mob trying to get in. We were among the first 10 or so people to get seated, the person sat us down and said nothing to us. We sat there for about 10 min. before we got up and found a person and asked how this worked? They told us that we could go ahead and go thru the buffet line when ever we wanted. We then got in line, the food was cold. butter would not melt.

We had the buffet on Christmas. The service was fine, but the food was bland and cold. Not worth the hefty price tag and the gratuity was automatically added onto the ticket (we were only a party of 3). We left hungry and unsatisfied.

  • Easter Sunday brunch, 10 a.m.
    31yrs
    Dined on 4/24/2011
Easter Sunday brunch, 10 a.m. sitting. Large group was given great service by attentive staff who let us take our time and enjoy talking and drinking coffee before and after eating. Food was excellent, although not enough of the entrees were set out at any given time; eggs benedict were predictably popular, yet only about a dozen came out at a time, and people had to stand in line waiting for the serving dishes to be refilled. Another bottleneck was at the omelet station, which needed more staff or something to move people along quicker. Food was worth the wait, though.
