A word from Altura
Altura applies the focus of ingredient-driven Italian cooking to the natural bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Our chefs work tirelessly each day to highlight the most exciting seasonal products.

Chef Nathan Lockwood's tasting menu is at the heart of the Altura approach to dining. With a focus on wild foraged products, pristine Puget Sound seafood and locally raised heirloom meats and vegetables, our tasting menu exemplifies who we are. Expect to spend two to three hours enjoying ten to fifteen courses of our most inspired dishes.

For a less structured approach, diners are welcome to design their own experience by choosing three or more courses from our traditional menu. Our Sommelier, Ryan Schroeder, is always on hand to design a unique flight of paired wines or help you find the perfect bottle to highlight your experience.

We invite you to join us on Capitol Hill to celebrate seasonal cuisine, exceptional wine and gracious service.

Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Seattle. The food was absolutely delicious. The burrata with heirloom tomatoes was unlike any I've had before, the steak was better than any steakhouse I've had in Seattle (e.g. John Howie, Daniel's, Capital Grille, etc.) and the risotto with prawns melted in your mouth. On top of great tasting food, the service was first class. Our servers were attentive, but not intrusive. Worth every penny!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went here after hearing great things from friends and to celebrate my boyfriend's promotion. When we first sat down they were sure to congratulate him which was a very nice touch. The service was impeccable and the food was so delicious! We have the chef's tasting menu, which took over 3 hours. the food was timed very well and at the end I couldn't believe we had been there for so long because the service and experience was so enjoyable. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We were looking to enjoy a tasting menu full of variety and Altura did not disappoint. The open kitchen style is great and the service is top notch."

  • "The food was good, but the service was very slow, portions were tiny and incredibly overpriced. If you go, make sure you get the "beverage pairings" for an extra $45-95 per person, because these are the only patrons who get timely attention. My one glass of wine was fine, but $18 for a 4oz pour is ridiculous. My husband and I ordered a three course meal and an hour after we got there I had not yet been served my second course......"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the first night of Altura's new menu and tasted an extremely varied fare. A first class dining experience."

  • "The personal and very professional staff was just the beginning of this dining experience. We opted for the Chef's menu along with the suggested wine pairings and every taste, every bite, every dish was amazing. We sat at the counter so that we could watch the magic unfolding. Watching the artists creating all of the dishes added to the enjoyment of our meal."

  • "I have been dying to try this place for over a year and finally got the chance. The service is personal and attentive without being overbearing. I did the three course dinner. It came with some delicious bread and a little amuse bouche from the chef. The plates are small but I was STUFFED at the end. They pace everything out so well and it was leisurely and lovely and they thanked me by name on the way out. CANT WAIT TO GO BACK!"

  • "Went here for our wedding anniversary. We had the tasting menu, which is chef's choice of several small plates. Each plate was beautiful as well as tasty. Short rib stuffed octopus, chilled tomato and melon soup, the best rustic bread with truffles and green garlic butter, mmm....Very creative dishes, the freshest ingredients, executed perfectly. Our server was delightful. It's a small place with a romantic atmosphere, but it is a bit noisy (there's an open kitchen). My only regret is that we did not sit at the counter - would have loved to watch the chefs at work. Next time! This is a spendy treat kind of a place, our bill was close to $300 and we only had one drink each, but it was totally worth it."

  • "Food was delicious but portions were 50% too small."

  • "Altura is a good restaurant but not a great one. I do give them credit for trying hard with using a lot of interesting combinations of ingredients for each dish. However, the different tastes lack a harmony. I felt that there were actually too many small additions (e.g. herbs, edible flowers) without enough thought to create an overall good taste. There was no "wow" factor. The ambience was also rather plain-- not very special."

  • "Althea is definitely a place for foodies. The menu is a little difficult to understand at first, but easy to navigate once you understand how it all works. The tasting menu is quite pricey, especially with wine pairings. We opted for the 3 course which was more than enough and still pricey with wine. You absolutely must do the wine pairing because the sommelier has expertly paired outstanding Italian wines with each dish. The whole experience is a delight. The ambiance and service are just fine, but not anything extraordinary. It's all about the food here!"

  • "Quit possibly the best dining experience for us ever, in Seattle. We ordered the tasting menu and 3.5 hours later left the resto after midnight. Magnificent orchestration, presentation, creativity, food and wine pairings, and flavors. Wait staff very attentive and knowledgeable, yet also unobtrusive. We will be back!"

  • "My experience at Altura was fabulous. It started with the warm welcome and a delicate small 2 ounce glass filled with a rhubarb drink that cleansed your palate. From there, we had a spring salad mix with flowers that were delicious. The bread that was drizzled in olive oil and baked with truffles in parchment paper was so good, every bite you ate was better than the previous.Next, we had sliced frozen sorrel and cherries in lime juice that was out of this world The gnocchi was perfect and not over cooked We had salmon for our entre dish It was seasoned and cooked to perfection We had a glass of rose to accompany our meal We had a chocolate drink with a small scoop of gelato in it. The dining experience at Altura was "Magnificent"!"

  • "We had the Chef's Tasting Menu, and it was incredible. There must have been 12 courses, and each was a fabulous tasting experience with wonderful flavors and textures. Very creative and innovative. Husband and I agreed that Chef Lockwood is a genius. The wine suggested by the Sommelier was spot on as well. Service was excellent."

  • "Came here for special dinner. Indulged in the tasting menu. This was one of the most interesting, complex and well executed dinners we have had in Seattle - and we have been to most restaurants in town. That a place so spectacular is on the end of Broadway is rather amazing. Wait staff was awesome and very knowledgeable without being all puffed up. Every course was beautiful and delicious. If you want to be blown away - right here in town - go here. You will not find better."

  • "It's not very often that I leave a restaurant and hug the staff. Everyone was so great, and the food was fantastic. Awesome spot for a first date!"

  • "Needed to ask for bread service (and it does not appear that bread service requires separate ordering), utensil service not timely, and we needed to refill our own wine glasses during the course of the dinner. We've been to Altura a few times, and the service this time was noticeably sub-par. Finally, the almond cake desert was a bit dry for an almond cake, and the $15 surcharge (presumably for the drizzle of 25-yr aged Balsamic) was not worth it. On a positive note, the entrees were (like prior visits) very, very good."

  • "Great seating at the counter watching the chefs create their dishes and plating magic. Every course was well-conceived both in artistic presentation and great depth of flavors. Service was very attentive and the dining pace was pleasantly leisurely. Altura made for a memorable 38th wedding anniversary meal for us."

  • "This was my fifth visit to Altura, and each meal each time has been truly remarkable. The quality, inventive and delicious flavor compositions, freshness, presentation and sheer delight of the taste of the dishes that come out of the open, well-orchestrated Altura kitchen makes this one of the very top restaurants in my extensive dining experience in Seattle. Everyone I bring here says, "This is amazing! How come I didn't know this was here?" Warm wishes for continuing success to Altura and its well-integrated staff: I'll be back again and again."

  • "Altura is one of the BEST if not the best restaurant in Seattle. We have enjoyed several delicious meals here and will continue returning. It is consistently excellent, innovative and a restaurant to go to just because you want to enjoy a fabulous dinner or have a special occasion to celebrate. Altura is in our neighborhood which is very convenient but it is definitely worth the drive to experience a delicious and memorable meal. We love to sit at the counter and watch the chef and staff prepare each course. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary at Altura. A delightful evening and a delicious meal! Thank you, Altura."

  • "My husband and I dined here on our anniversary as we know it's pricey but the food and service is excellent. With so many great dining choices in Seattle, it takes an exceptional level of attention to details to rise above the rest. Altura was amazing in both food and service. Chef Nathan's gnocchi with lamb, beef and iberico ragu was so delicious, I could have eaten just that and been happy. The spot prawn crudo pleased the eye as well as the tastebuds, being exquisitely presented as if in a food magazine. There was not a single misstep in our dining experience. The food and service feels like fine dining but this restaurant is casual enough that Seattleites who deem "dressing up" a distateful chore, will feel welcome."

  • "I had such a memorable experience the first time I had the pleasure of eating at Altura I chose it as my last supper in Seattle before we move to the bay area. At my first visit I was so in love with the fish dish I had I asked the server about the recipe. Chef Nathan came over himself and gave me a very detailed description of how to prepare the dish. It is always risky returning to a restaurant that you have previously idealized, but I was just as impressed and satisfied as the first time. Everything from the opening complimentary drink and amuse with large shavings of black truffle on top to the incredible range of menu items that you can customize to your taste. Service is excellent and the open kitchen concept is eye candy."

  • "I've been hearing a lot of good things about Altura from my friends so we decided to try for our anniversary dinner. I requested to have a table for 2 although that isn't always guaranteed as small partys are seated at the kitchen bar. They had tables available so we were able to sit at a table. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were perfect. We did the 3 course dinner as we had a late lunch. We were very full with the 3 course menu. We would have loved to have tried the 12 course chef's tasting menu though. Overall experience and service was great."
