A word from Altura
Altura applies the focus of ingredient-driven Italian cooking to the natural bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Our chefs work tirelessly each day to highlight the most exciting seasonal products.

Chef Nathan Lockwood's tasting menu is at the heart of the Altura approach to dining. With a focus on wild foraged products, pristine Puget Sound seafood and locally raised heirloom meats and vegetables, our tasting menu exemplifies who we are. Expect to spend two to three hours enjoying ten to fifteen courses of our most inspired dishes.

For a less structured approach, diners are welcome to design their own experience by choosing three or more courses from our traditional menu. Our Sommelier, Ryan Schroeder, is always on hand to design a unique flight of paired wines or help you find the perfect bottle to highlight your experience.

We invite you to join us on Capitol Hill to celebrate seasonal cuisine, exceptional wine and gracious service.

Wonderful food and wine. Sommelier went out of his way to pair wines and give tastes to match food and recommended great bottles of wine as well. Terrific bread. Guest said it was best outside of France he's had. Outstanding service. Great quality and in a nice, casual way. A new favorite!

Put yourself in the hands of the talented chef and order the tasting menu. It is paired with superb wines by the knowledgable sommelier. The chef prepares course after course of fresh inventive tast combinations. The ingredients are sourced locally and completely seasonal, of course. That's just where it starts. The next phase is combining flavors in most inventive ways - from a pancetta wrapped mussel to delicate crab ravioli to perfect duck breast w spicy wild cherry compote. Even a cloche of Madrona wood smoke to heighten the senses. It's all fun and delicious! Leave your calorie counter and skinny jeans at home and enjoy a real treat.

Here is the place to go if you want interesting and original, delicious food. The menu changes constantly and there is intuitive creativity at work resulting in one of a kind, dishes. Upon arriving, the casual appearance of the restaurant left me thinking I might have come to the wrong place.....but don't be fooled. Seriously talented kitchen!

I found this place simply by looking at highly reviewed restaurants and after going myself I can see why. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. For someone on my budget it will need to remain a place for special occasions, but it was definitely worth every penny. It's not spacious by any stretch, so it would be tough to take a large group here, but for a couple or a small group it would be idea.

Altura is a tasting menu centered restaurant serving incredible Italian influenced food. We didn't do the full 7 course version, as the whole table has to be in, but I did four courses while the rest of the table did 3. Two of us had the wine parings, which were very well matched with the food. Service was exceptional in that it was efficient and warm without being fussy. The food is the star here, though.

Three remarkable courses: foie gras lightly sautéed with huckleberries and much more; tiny pasta pockets with white truffles fresh and shaved copiously at the table; thick elk steak with bone in, all this plus a good amuse-bouche and very good bread. All this topped with a bottle of Amarone not on the wine list. Couldn't ask for more!

There aren't enough words to explain how much we loved Altura. Seated at the chef's counter is the ONLY way to eat here - the BEST way. We had the four course meal which for me, was even too much because of all the food you receive. Between the amuse bouche, intermezzo, bread, wine pairings and the courses I left eating only two of my courses in full with a few bites from the rest which was a shame because it was so good (my husband ate my portions). The grilled octopus, foie gras, seasonal agnolotti with white truffle (my favorite dish by far), zabuton steak, and truffle cake were all amazing - you can't really go wrong here. The best part was that the chef's were all so lovely and willing to chat with you that it just MADE the experience.

Rather than go for the chef's tasting menu, a group of 5 of us decided to do the 3 course option and just order all the items on the menu. We're glad we did as we were stuffed at the end and incredibly satisfied with our meal. Everything was masterfully crafted and a few were beyond description. Service (5/5) - The service as expected here is impeccable. From the hostess who sat us immediately as we arrived to the server who made sure all our needs were met right away. She was also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Even the hostess helped deliver dishes which I've never seen in other restaurants but it seems that everyone chips in to make sure things are done quickly and with class.

We made your reservation for Altura a month in advance, to guarantee that we'd be able to come here on our wedding anniversary. We were a bit early for our reservation, but the hostess seated us promptly -- at the bar. We requested to be resat, since it was a special occasion and we didn't want to sit side-by-side. The hostess seemed a bit nonplussed at first, but accommodated us. That was the only service blip in an otherwise stellar evening. We were particularly impressed by the sommelier. Food is outstanding. We did the three course with wine pairing, and each match was perfection. Big thumbs up to the chicory salad. And for the entree: My husband got the steak, which he said was wonderful, and I got a chicken special -- also very good.

The Duck Prosciutto & Duck Bologna (fabulous); Spicy Grilled Octopus (very tough, typical of Octopus; the seasoning was not impressive...spicy chili, not over the top). Pappardelle and Gnocchi, were very good, fresh, and satiating. Lopez Goat, disappointing, returned plate to kitchen b/c the shoulder portion was too tough to eat. Potato Crusted Petrole Sole, very good, nicely presented although only two tiny pieces of clam and no recognizable crab. We were disappointed, would have appreciated maybe a complementary dessert based on the return of the Lopez Goat?

Without doubt Altura and Spinasse encompass the best fine Italian dining in Seattle. Altura clearly stands out above almost all other restaurants in the quality of the food, presentation, freshness of ingredients and service in Seattle. In particular the service is way beyond the nearly uniformly dismal service that is the standard in most Seattle fine dining restaurants. Having been to Piedmont several times, I can attest to this restaurant being very consistent with what one might fine in Alba.

I had questions about the menu and tried calling the morning of our dinner reservation. They don't open until 5 PM so my call went to voice mail. My questions had to wait until we were seated. The menu offers three courses for $67 or a tasting menu for $137 which seems best suited for a party of 4 or more. The choices change daily so that's why I suggest you look at their online menu and phone ahead to make sure it is current. I opted for the three course meal and my wife, never a big eater, just had an entree a la carte. Presentation and taste of all things served was excellent. I shared a bite of my gnocchi with my wife. She proclaimed it the best she ever experienced.

The food was well presented, flavors delicious (gnocchi was outstanding), the servers were very knowledgeable about the wine, and the service impeccable. That said, it is very small, noisy overall and our table for 2 was uncomfortably close to the table next to us right at the front entrance. We had the three course meal with wine parings. The wine pairings are $41 pp and I would have expected full glasses of wine (5oz) for a three course meal for that price. However they were tastings (maybe 3oz). Not sure if they were considered premium wines as I did not see the wine list. Overall, it was not really the ambiance I wanted for the occasion and left disappointed despite the top notch food.

Food: I've had tasting menus around the country, from the top Michelin restaurants in NYC to top restaurants in Vegas and LA. While I ordered off the a la carte menu at Altura, I can say, without a doubt, the quality of food I had was on par or above many of the highly revered restaurants I've eaten at. Each course (appetizer, pasta, and entree) was absolutely delicious. The flavors were simple and bold and each component was prepared perfectly and complimented each other. The food was fresh, in season, and prepared immaculately. The only thing I can knock about the meal was that I didn't find the dessert to be very memorable (I found the cannoli bland, unexciting, and didn't finish much over half of it). Service: Pretentious.
