It was POURING rain that day but as we settled in at Almond the weather was easily forgotten. Large space, pretty and relaxing setting with lots of wood. The escargot appetizer was wonderful -- tender, flavorful snails with the perfect amount of garlic butter. Moules frite and fish and chips were equally good. And imagine our surprise to find sticky toffee date cake on the dessert menu -- any one who has spent time in the UK couldn't pass it up! We had a reservation and were promptly seated at a great table exactly at our reservation time. Our server was prompt and attentive, not to mention delightfully engaging - a rare balance. The decor and great natural light give the whole space a great feel. We had a number of people with specific dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free) and everyone easily found something they wanted and agreed the food was delicious. Drinks were also great. Bill was reasonable considering we all ate and drank with brunch, plus coffee at the end. It is uniformly excellent regarding food and service, which are the two things I care about. Yesterday the server seemed a little distracted, so he gave us less attention, and less prompt attention, than I'm accustomed to. But I really didn't mind, particularly because the manager not only kept checking up on us; he also had the good sense to look up my name on the reservation list when I told him that I'd been there many times before. I really like the salad Nicoise (poor spelling skills) and they often ask if I would like one, even when it's not on the menu.
A great burger is always on the menu and my associates who have been before ask if we can go to Almond when we have a return visit.
