Diner Reviews
  • "The food was spectacular and the service was so friendly and professional that we would have been delighted even if the food had not been so fabulous! We ate here once before in 2008 on my only other trip to Philadelphia and remembered it was great. It has only gotten better! All four diners in our party were equally pleased Don't miss the signature "cigar" for dessert!"

  • "This is our 3rd or 4th time at Alma De Cuba. We had the Alma Sampler appetizer (can't get enough of those stuffed dates) and the octopus, which was cooked to perfection, yet tender. We could have polished off a 2nd dish of this, delicious. We had crispy pork, and Scallops over quinoa. I would have liked just 1 more scallop on my plate...there were only 3 with a large amount of quinoa. Tapioca was delicious, not at all like that fake tapioca that diners serve. Large pearls of tapioca with a hint of coconut, or at least I think it was. My only complaint would be the lighting is so dim its hard to read the menu descriptions, even with reading glasses. I like dim lighting, but its killer to read the menu."

  • "My second time here, and it was as wonderful as the first. Each dish was incredible starting at the bread before dinner and ending with the dessert. We were trying to figure out which dish we liked least, when we gave up because everything was just so good."

  • "Food is always great - from appetizer through desert. Service is outstanding with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Love the music and setting. Mojitos are fantastic, but if you like a traditional Brazilian drink try the CAIPIRINHAS (classic to fruity depending on how sweet)."

  • "My wife and I went there for our anniversary and it was well worth the money paid. Small appetizers and a large entree were wonderful, the service was efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Great place to go"

  • "Six of us had a business dinner there and the food and service were excellent. The menu is quite varied so you want to make sure you have a group that is up for trying something new. The appetizers were all worth the investment. The roast lamb was a hit, the chicken and plantain dish was so good and plentiful I took the unheard of step (from a business dinner) of taking what I couldnt finish home. Already looking forward to returning."

  • "Pork a little unsavory, but the rainbow ceviche was outstanding, Bronzino flavorful, cigar desert was decadent. Service was fantastic! Oh, and the wine - Shiraz penfolds kunooga hill, tasted like velvet going down!"

  • "On the expensive side (after having a couple of drinks and a bottle of wine), but the food is incredibly good. It's one of our favorite special occasion "go to" restaurants! Service was great, food was superb. Advice: go a little on the earlier side (around 5-5:30ish) if you'd like to sit near a window and get a great breeze."

  • "In Philly for the weekend and had a okay dinner here. It was a bit expensive for Cuban food but the energetic atmosphere and good mojito and rum punch made up for it. Service was a bit too pushy."

  • "Always, always, always have had great food, great service, and great mojitos!"

  • "This was the second time to Alma De Cuba, my first experience was outstanding prompting our second visit. The service and ambiance was par with most Starr Restaurants - which is excellent. My meal was just so-so, nothing special at all. The ceviche was good, but that was the exception. I was with a group of four and we all agreed our entrees did not impress. My group was very disappointed."

  • "Initially, I had made reservations for 6 because I was graduating that day and wasn't sure when we would be finished. I was able to call Alma de Cuba and move my reservation up and hour to 5 with no problems...which I am so thankful for! I started with a mango martini and the Caesar salad, both are fantastic. The salad was big enough to split among 3 people without being too filling. I got the duck as an entree, my boyfriend got the tuna, and my dad got the pork. All were fantastic...but the duck really wowed me and I'll be dreaming about it. Don't bother with sides for the table...we got the spinach and it wasn't worth the price."

  • "We enjoyed 45 minutes of Friday Happy Hour at the bar before our 6:30 reservation. Great mojitos, sangria and ceviche "shots". We moved upstairs for dinner where we had great service and a wonderful meal. We asked our server what her favorites were and ordered each of her suggestions - duck, tuna, skirt steak and scallops. All in all it was a great dining experience and we all agreed that we would return!"

  • "ALMA DE CUBA has ALWAYS been my favorite Resturant in philadelphia and it's still the CHAMPION OF PHILLY in my mind. Excellence in every bite! G.O.A.T!!!"

  • "The food was delicious - the pork tacos and tuna tacos for starters between 2 were perfect. Mains were also delicious (I can recommend the chicken). Flour less chocolate cake for dessert was an added bonus. Cocktails were great too. The only problem was that we were freezing - the ac was way too high. Speaking to staff didn't change a thing. Even with my jacket on I was shivering!!"

  • "Food was great! The had a quiet intimate table, a nice change in that some restruants seem to forget I am there to have dinner with my date and not the patrons seated on either side of us!"

  • "I visited Alma de Cuba for my birthday/restaurant week dinner back in January. I remember having sea scallop ceviche for appetizer, lechon asado (crispy pork) as the main dish, and (what I recall as) a traditional sugar cookie for dessert. Every dish was just great, and what was even more amazing is that the restaurant treated us like their regulars instead of "a restaurant week crowd". Each dish was handled with care, and the waitress was polite. My friends and I had a wonderful time and will visit Alma de Cuba soon :D"

  • "Our experience at Alma de Cuba got off to a little bit of a rocky start, after we arrived early for happy hour and waited a solid 15 minutes to get served drinks at the bar but we ultimately had a fabulous experience there. Our server was awesome and the food was even better! We started with the ceviche sampler and we all agreed that the yellow tail was our favorite. I had the Vaca Frita and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered some tostones on the side and they were some of the best I've ever had. Overall, the food, service and ambiance were great and we will definitely be back!"

  • "Great service. Plentiful, diverse options on the menu. Portions were too small though - very un-Cuban restaurant like. flavorful food.. octupus in the appetizer was too hard.. not tender at all"

  • "I hadn't been to Alma in quite a few years but it was as good as I remembered. The food, service, location and the ambiance were all fantastic. "

  • " we loved the food and service, and we had ordered a birthday cake which was beyond great! However, the restaurant is not handicapped accessible and the noise volume is considerable so it was difficult to talk with guests. I would recommend the restaurant to young foodies!"

  • "We've always used Alma De Cuba as our night out when we want a sure thing. My wire won't let a birthday pass without a meal here. This night, our friends surprised us with a bottle of champagne and the staff did a great job surprising us. Service & meal, as always was outstanding. Well paced and delicious. "

  • "This was our first dining experience for my small group of friends. I booked the table easily online. We got to the restaurant a few minutes early and decided to have a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender, William, was fantastic. He laughed and joked with us while continuing to wait on the other customers. Plus his mojito suaves were delicious! Dinner had a nice selection of food to choose from. Everything came out in a speedy fashion and was tasty. The wait staff was wonderful. We will definitely be returning!"

  • "I love the ambiance, the décor, the food and pretty everything about this place. I'm a pescatarian so my options were somewhat limited but other than that the place was great! :) And of course we'd recommend this place. We were there with two other friends after we told them about this place. They had to give it a try and loved it too!"

  • "This was our first time in Philadelphia. We chose Alma De Cuba based upon the menu and the reviews. This was by far one of the top 5 restaurants we have been to. The food was incredible!! We started off with the Nuevo Latino Caesar salad, not traditional Caesar, and we loved it! We also had the grilled octopus, loved that too! For entrees we had the Arroz Calamari and Cilantro Honey Mustard Salmon. Each dish was perfection. Dessert was the best flan i have ever tasted and very cool edible cigar complete with edible flaming matches! Our waitress was the only thing i could complain about. She had absolutely no personality, never smiled, never explained anything at all to us. Our food runner and bussers were much more friendly. "

  • "Service wasn't terrible, but not great, but the food and drinks more than make up for it. The little bread balls are soooooo good. Every food item our group had was phenomenal. "
